Calypso stared out the tunnel entrance with a grimace. A light frost dusted the ground with paw prints from braver cats than she who had wondered out into the cold. Calypso shivered and tucked her paws farther under the warmed of her body and thick long autumn toned pelt.
Basil had honestly been out with his sister Jasmine. She seemed to enjoy taking walks on the surface and he was always the one roped into escorting her since he was aware that his father was very protective of her. Well, he couldn't blame him. Basil was fairly protective of his sister as well so he honestly didn't mind most of the time. It was cold out today though and he hadn't liked the idea of wandering the territory for no good reason with her so when she had decided to return early, he certainly hadn't argued. Upon slipping back into the tunnels, he shook out his pelt to get rid of the small amount of snow that had accumulated on his shoulders during their trek. He glanced over at Calypso as Jasmine slipped past him to return to Post Kilo. "Thinking of going out? I'd advise against it. It looks like a snowstorm might be coming."

Her ear flicked before she replied. “I was thinking about it but I’m not a fan of being cold to the bone.” She looked at the frost that still clung to his pelt his own body heat not warm enough to melt it away. “The tunnels aren’t much warmer though. And I haven’t done my part to provide.”
"Even if you haven't contributed yet, hunting would be difficult right now. If you plan to go out though, I'll go with you. With BrookClan acting out, it's not wise for anyone to go alone." He didn't fancy going back out in that cold, but he'd rather do it now if he had to so he didn't have a chance to warm up.

Red usually went surface hunting with her. She allowed her expression to fall. She was half tempted to tell the tom that his kindness was wasted on her. But she knew doing something like attempt a surface hunt with a storm approaching was asking for an early reunion with her deceased father. "Yes." She turned to face Basil more fully. "If you are okay with it id love for you to go with me. I probably should be alone anyways. With or without BrookClan or a storm."
"Why would you be better of going alone? Even if you're strong, it never hurts to have a companion. It's always nice to have someone at your back you know." He shook, trying to dislodge the snow that was still on his back and shoulders. "If you are going to go though, we'd best hurry so we can be back before the blizzard hits."

(totally intended that to say shouldn't lol)
"Alright. Its been a while since ive been up here, lead the way." she rose completely to her paws and pressed one delicate paw on the snow drizzled surface. Its sharp cold bite sending a surge of energy into her bones.
Basil actually grimaced for a moment upon resurfacing from the tunnels. He rather disliked the cold, but he had promised that he would go with her and he wasn't one to back down from a promise. He hid the grimace behind a smile a few moments later and pressed on. "Even if it is cold, the snow does look pretty. It's no wonder the tykes always get excited when they hear about snow." Of course Jasmine had given him this bit of information since she was the only reason he ever made a trip to Post Kilo these days.

"I guess your right." she meowed turning her face into the slowly falling snow. "I just never really took the time to notice." She looked back at him and smiled. "Lets get going shall we?" She trotted farther into the snow her warm paws sinking into the snow. "Oh wow brrr." she shivered. "Lets make it a short hunt." she joked.
"When did you learn to hunt by the way? I always thought it best to leave that to the scouts." Of course there was nothing wrong with her knowing both, apparently that was something his father had to learn upon becoming Commander since the Commander was supposed to be able to hunt and to fight, but it was honestly rare to find a mercenary or scout that knew both. It was enough to make the young tom curious."

"My father felt it was wise to be able to know enough for at least myself. If I ever got lost or hurt or anything really in a situation where I needed to survive." Her cheeks burned. Though fighting was her number one skill she enjoyed the thrill associated with the hunt. "Plus where there is no reason to fight i need to have something to do." she purred. Seemingly for the first time in a while.
"I suppose that does make sense and it's better than being stuck on bat duty or being made to reinforce tunnel walls. He'd been doing a lot of both here lately. Every time he tried to find time for himself, he was being sent to do something else. It was almost as if they thought he wouldn't be as much trouble if they kept him busy. The thought made him grimace, but the look was gone a minute later. If she was going to hunt, he needed to focus on watching their surroundings and making sure that nothing tried to sneak up on them.

"Yeah... bats." she mind wandered back to her mother and father, shaking her head she turned forced her smile as snow peppered her muzzle. "Well lets go before that rumored storm shows up."
He had sensed the change in her demeanor, but he didn't push it. Everyone had their own demons to fight after all. Instead, he turned his gaze back up to the sky to check the clouds. They had a little while before the blizzard would hit, but that still meant this needed to be a quick trip. After a while though, the silence became a bit uncomfortable. "Are you alright?" He wasn't sure really, but it did seem like something was bothering her so maybe he could hear her out? He wasn't sure if that was a good idea or not, but he supposed it didn't hurt to ask.

She had hoped she wasn't as open or easy to read as she apparently was. "I'm fine. Its just that mom and dad died recently. It just still seems like a dream or rather a nightmare." she walked beside him with her eyes pointed forward. She was raised by Red, her father, to be strong and to not let things get to her. But he wasn't here to tell her not to morn him.
It was then that Basil realized that this was Raya's daughter. Perhaps he shouldn't have asked her so casually? It made his own family problems seem trivial honestly. "I'm sorry. I will say that Raya was very brave to do what she did and Red was always a strong soldier. At the same time, I think it's alright to give yourself time to grieve. They were family after all right?"
