Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Dragonkit's first memories were the blurry images of his mother, somewhere cool and soft and friendly, and interrupted by sudden loud screeching and a flurry of movement and confusion. He had been young enough to see but not old enough to remember well, and he did not understand that his father had killed his mother and stolen him away. Then came the weird loud argument that happened a few days ago; he didn't understand that either, though he could remember being stuck in the nursery and away from the action.
But today, he was done being stuck inside! He was a big warrior now. Puffing up his chest, the little tom marched straight out of the den and into the center of camp. Now he was here, and he was doing to do, um, everything! Anything! Whatever kits did!
Funguskit had lived a similar fate as Dragonkit, taken from Swiftclan and brought here by one of the warriors, the biggest difference between them though was that Funguskit had no family in either place. They were like a pawn being moved as others pleased, the young cat didn't mind too much with what happened but had been quite upset that Caramelcream didn't allow them to at least watch the fighting before she hauled the kit away.
They watched Dragonkit curiously as he marched into the center of camp. "What are you doing?"
"Everything," he announced. Dragonkit glanced back over his shoulder at Funguskit and smiled widely. "I'm done being stuck in the nursery! I want to do all of the things that normal cats do. I'm big enough now to be a real kit." The white kitten widened his stance and lifted his chin. A little under two moons old, his fur still kitten-fluffy, he was confident in his new independence.
But what was everything? What should he do first? His question was answered by a rumbling in his stomach. "I have a gut feeling. Time to eat," he announced.
Funguskit tilted their white and gray head, was it possible to do everything. "Foods a good place to start, but the stuff on the pile is cold, fresh prey is the best." They gave the younger kit a smile, an idea forming. It had been boring the past couple of days, nothing short of a monotone existence. "Why dont we go catch our own?" Funguskit had managed to follow one of the warriors halfway through the tunnels before being caught and brought back, so they knew mostly how to get out.
"Where are we going to catch fresh prey?" he asked them blankly. "I don't know where the adult cats find it. What if it's all cold by the time we pick it up? Then we left for no reason." Dragonkit was frowning. He hadn't yet realized that prey was just as alive as he was; he thought it was more like the plants he saw growing at the edge of the camp. You had to find and pick it before it was too cold.
A bubble of laughter filled the air around Funguskit, their eyes lighting up. "Oh boy, they get the prey from outside." Motiining with their tail in the direction of the exit before continuing. "Its warm and juicy when you first get it, but since they put it on the pile that's why it gets cold."
"Are you sure?" Dragonkit blinked a couple of times. That did make some sense, even with his prey-picking theory: it was warm until you pulled it off the vine, and then it started to cool down. He rose to his paws and nodded to Funguskit.
Funguskit nodded at the other kits sudden enthusiasm, but they quickly placed the tip of their tail over his mouth. "We have to be careful, some of the warriors don't like when kits leave. They want to keep up trapped in here like they do the nursery so we can't have fun." They looked around the clearing and back to Dragonkit.
"If they try and stop us, I'll tell Daddy. He'll take care of it," Dragonkit assured them. To him, Honeysplash was one of the most honorable warriors in the clan, and the other cats would have to trust and listen to him. He was a very respected cat and Dragonkit couldn't be more proud to have him as family.
