"Bad kit! Cubkit, put me down now," Lioningsnarl demanded crossly. "Do I say! CUBKIT!"
The Animal Whisperer was left in a rather undignified position. It was his job to be an expert on twolegs and even raise one of his own, but it wasn't going as well as he hoped. Cubkit - as he'd named the small brown-furred twoleg - was disobedient and only growing worse with age. He was already five times Lioningsnarl's height, four years old, and had recently discovered cats were soft and squishy. Cubkit's mother had left him in the yard and the cat led him away for a training session.
Only Cubkit didn't want to train today, and the toddler had picked up his mentor and was holding him happily in the air making whooshing noises. Lioningsnarl was humiliated and powerless in the twoleg's grip.
Mysteryleaf had been out hunting near the twolegplace and her ears pricked when she heard yelling. She recognized the voice as Lioningsnarl and concerned the black she cat ran towards the yard clambering up the fence, and was met with the sight of Lioningsnarl being waved around by the toddler whom Lioningsnarl was calling cubkit.
Mysteryleaf was torn between letting out a laugh or leaping down to help. But clearly 'Cubkit' wasn't trying to hurt Lioningsnarl but instead was holding him up and swinging him around.
"Having fun?" She couldn't help herself as a giggle escaped her. Though she recovered her composure a smile remained on the black she cat's face. "Want some help?"
"Obviously I'm not," Lioningsnarl snapped back. He craned his neck to look for the speaker, but with the way Cubkit was waving him about, it only made him dizzy to look around. He closed his eyes and groaned. He was going to have to get help, he accepted that now, as much as he hated the idea of appearing weak. There was no way he was getting out of here on his own without hurting the little twoleg.
"Yes, please, but don't use your claws. I don't want to upset him," he muttered. He opened one green eye to look for Mysteryleaf again and winced as the twoleg turned him around and tugged on his whiskers playfully. "The sooner the better."
Mysteryleaf sighed, clawing would be the surefire way to get the kit to let go but it would also likely antagonize the kits parents and the parents were dangerous.
So a different tactic would be to coerce the little kit to let Lioningsnarl go.
She dropped down from the fence and landed on the ground. "Hey, over here!" She called to the twoleg kit tail waving behind her to try and get its attention. "Come here little twoleg!" She added.
The toddler, very fond of his prize cat that kept visiting, looked up at a soft meowing to see another one nearby. With an excited giggle he trotted toward her, one arm extended while he held Lioningsnarl against his side with the other, babbling excitedly.
Hmm, it seemed he wouldn't just drop Lioningsnarl in favor of trying to grab her. Fortunately it was clear the toddler was far from as agile as a cat so Mysteryleaf began to move to have the kit follow her. Perhaps the kit would lose its grip if it had to try and chase her around.
"Come on, put Lioningsnarl down," She urged, keeping her voice light. She knew Twolegs couldn't understand them, but maybe the message would get across as she moved around the garden at a pace the kit could easily keep up with
He stumbled after her with his grabby little hand extended, one clumsy step after another thudding after her. Cubkit continued to talk to her in his foreign language, growing more and more insistent. Finally, as he turned to keep up with her, his foot slipped and the toddler went sprawling.
Lioningsnarl yipped as they fell, but as he hit the ground - the landing was very soft, the twoleg kit was short - he wiggled free of Cubkit's grasp and retreated a few steps.
"Thanks," he panted to Mysteryleaf, only to flatten his ears as the toddler started to wail.
Mysteryleaf's ears flattened against the wailing noise. "Great StarClan!" She cried lifting her paws to cover her ears as she drew back from the toddler. "Why is it making such an infernal noise?!" She hissed. She considered the toddler she saw no blood. Surely such a little fall for the twoleg kit wasn't worth this much racket. Her mother would've cuffed her on the head if she'd made such racket when she was small over a stumble.
"It's upset again," Lioningsnarl grumbled, and it was clear he had dealt with this before. The golden tom walked over to stand firmly in front of the kit, even placing one paw on the bridge of its nose. "Stop that noise, it's hurting my ears."
Shockingly, the toddler didn't listen. But he was tempted by the fluffy cats in front of him and reached out a hand to try and pet Mysteryleaf.
Mysteryleaf stiffened when the twoleg kit reached towards her. Her paw lifting on instinct, but only Lioningwhisper's early request not to claw it stayed her claws.
She looked at him trying to discern what to do. well... maybe if it helped quiet the kit.
She didn't run away this time and let the kit pet her.
The kit did quiet as he stroked her lightly. Though he bared his teeth at the cats, he seemed happy.
"Okay, good job. Now he's in a mood today, so maybe we should just try training later. Back away slowly," Lioningsnarl muttered from the corner of his mouth - mostly talking to himself, as he started to retreat and leave Mysteryleaf as the boy's new toy.
