Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Flamingstar led her kits through Nightclan territory. She had told them that they were going for a stroll to see Nightclan territory. The previous night, Solarkit and Astralkit had both shown signs of being Elementals. Solarkit had bitten her tongue while trying prey for the first time and a drop of blood had fallen onto her prey and the bite mark Solarkit had left had healed. Flamingstar panicked and immediately began executing a plan to get rid of Solarkit. However, while she was resting that afternoon, Astralkit had woken with a start and explained the same dream Flamingstar was having. While she wasn't sure if Astralkit's dream was coincidental or not, the Nightclan leader didn't want to take any chances. She wanted nothing to do with the Elementals. They were far too dangerous and no kit of hers were going to be welcomed into Nightclan with powers that were just simply...unnatural. She halted at the border where the four forest clan territories came together. Someone would find them here for sure. She turned to look at her kits, an emotionless expression on her scarred face. "I want you both to wait here. I have a surprise for you but I need you to close your eyes."
Astralkit had followed behind, struggling to keep up with the wide stride of their mother. Finally, Flamingstar has stopped and Astralkit caught up, panting to catch her breath. However, her exhaustion suddenly burst into excitement at the mention of a surprise. "What surprise is it? Where is it?" Astralkit asked, searching in all directions with eyes wide in curiosity.
"Now, now. If I had told you what the surprise was, it wouldn't be a surprise anymore." Her voice held warmth despite her heartless intentions. She didn't want her kits to know that she was abandoning them. She hoped that they were too young to ever remember this day in the future. It was best if they never knew who Flamingstar was to them. "Now...close your eyes and keep them closed. I will be right back..." She watched as both her kits closed their eyes and backed into the shadows, disappearing forever. Faith @jadie
When Autumngossamer first ran into Bloodyrondo at the border they had both sent their patrols away, but now that it was just the two of them the tension slipped away. "I'd say a little bird heard you royally messed up, but that joke is a bit too soon for you I bet," She smirked. How she would love to hate him and maybe that was true that she enjoyed hearing his idiocy for entertainment. But for years they grew up next to each other constantly rolling their eyes at one another. She found his beliefs and actions unquestionably wrong, disgusting even and same could be said to how he felt about hers. But their friendship was always built around agree to disagree.
"Does the priest have time to talk?" She asked, almost in a bored tone, her head snaking back to look behind her for a moment before turning back around with a grin, "I heard of a burrow on NightClan's border full of rabbits." It was like no time passed at all, but in reality she had been around Bloodyrondo long enough to know when something was severely up with him.
"Yes, it is," Bloodyrondo replied gruffly. He let his guard down around Autumngossamer but it was a process. He'd tasted so much darkness that he had to claw his way back out and it was getting harder and harder to find cats who could light the way. One of the few cats who could, of course, was a sworn enemy, just as bad as Foxbane and Littlecrow, but he couldn't, wouldn't, hold her to the same standard, "Now that I will be receiving my nine lives soon, won't you come back to be my Soothsayer? You would have to take some tests, of course, but if you pass and repent, it will work out just fine."
The hidden meaning behind his words were that truly they were a cry for help. He did not have a Promised, at least not yet in camp, nor did he have a Soothsayer. He was also the only healer left in the Clan that would serve his loyalists. He needed a cat that he could trust near him. Many would call him a fool and a hypocrite for going to Autumngossamer of all cats, but the two of them have a very special relationship. They had their secrets, sure, but they did not lie to each other.
"I'll walk with you," Autumngossamer smiled softly at her offer. He made it hard to say no because for as short sighted, cruel, and gullible as he was... He was just as abused as she had been. He got off easier, he was able to suck up to the Sun God, but it was easier to meet such a task when you still saw the Sun God as glorious.
Still the sentiment of walking along side him was quite big, SunClan was known for kidnapping cats without any exceptions. It would be easy for him or someone else to force her back to SunClan like many other cats did. "The last time I was meant to repent I was forced to carry kits and then Foxbane and Littlestar..." She couldn't finish the sentence, her eyes tearing up slightly at the memory, "For the first time I'm not a victim." Actually for the first time Bloodyrondo wasn't a victim either, but they both walked different paths to get there. She stood up for herself, regained her honor by fighting back and fearlessly announcing to the world her abuse. But Bloodyrondo grew out of victim and into abuser. Subconsciously her pelt rubbed up against his as a silent comfort she hadn't intended. "God, we were dealt such a sucky hand in this clan by them," She said rubbing away the tears as they walked alongside the SunClan border.
Bloodyrondo didn't know what to say. Topics like this usually were not discussed by the two of them, it never ended well, but you could only push off the inevitable for so long, "The Sun God's actions are not something you or I can comprehend. You can interpret him, and you are especially good at it as Soothsayer, but even if you can decode the message it's beyond us to understand why he does what he does. He sees the bigger picture that we never will. I wish Littlestar would have listened to me before she killed him..." Even though the former High Priestess was given a new name, being with Autumngossamer reminded him of old times, it was easy for him to slip up especially since he had not yet gone to get his nine lives, "... I'm sure some SunClan expatriates told you all about what happened yesterday."
Bloodyrondo did not pull away when Autumngossamer's pelt brushed against his but he did not lean into it as her normally did. In fact, he wasn't even looking at her, his eyes cast to the ground, deep in thought. He was not speaking with his usual gusto and sounded downtrodden, like he was trying to convince himself as well as his friend that his actions were just.
Autumngossamer's side eyed Bloodyrondo as he spoke, he was asking if she heard about what happened. She chewed at her claw, not out of anxiety, but in thought as she walked at an uneven pace before finally replying, "I'm sure that you think what I did at the gathering was the worst thing I could do. I think one of the worst thing you could have done was what you did in camp. Our faith lies in different places, yet we're still able to walk side by side. I think it's because we believe in one another, we don't expect the other to change, but we hope for it. I have a secret though."
She leaned close into his ear and whispered, "In a twisted way, I prefer you as leader," She said with a knowing smirk before pulling away, "You're openly honest, didn't pull any punches and be like, oh yeah, Littlestar will be safe, only to never be seen again like the other priestesses often did. At least anyone who joins the clan now isn't being tricked."
She knew better than anyone what it was like for everyone in SunClan to hate you. For your only supporters to be people you hardly even noticed and weren't even sure if you particularly cared about. She was dying for just one person to tell her they understood where she was coming from in the Shadow Era, but no one ever did. She wasn't going to say he did the right thing, but what she did say was as close of a compliment as it could get. After a pause she added, "How did you want me to feel about it?"
Bloodyrondo's aura seemed to lift with Autumngossaner's praise. While he had been a bit downtrodden at the beginning of the convo, being complimented on his leadership style for the very first time reignited the fire in his heart. He brushed his tail across Autumngossamer's back then twisted his around hers. To the outsider looking it perhaps it would be a romantic gesture, but it wasn't for these two, more like a couple of siblings holding hands when walking alone at night.
"Thank you," He said, his voice more confident than it had been when he last spoke, "I wish more cats would see me the same as you do. That's why I need you back in SunClan... but one of the Sun God's final mercies was allowing you to live where your heart leads you, despite your cri---, uh, despite it all... and I intend to respect that," The ginger tom paused, mulling over her last question, carefully choosing his words, "Now that I'm leader, or soon to be leader, big changes are coming to SunClan, and no doubt you will feel the effects in DayClan, too. In fact, you already have. Just promise that, no matter what, you'll never hate me. That's good enough."
Autumngossamer watched Bloodyrondo speak, her eyes rounding in understanding. He felt alone, that was why he wanted her to come back to SunClan. Back when she was an apprenticed aged Janus she had watched Glowstar comfort Foxstar even though she was about to kill her mate. That had always been stupid to her, Glowstar comforting Foxstar when she had all the power, it made no sense. But looking at Bloodyrondo she got it now, being in power was a lonely place to be. She couldn't imagine how alone she would have felt cursing the Sun God if Firetooth hadn't been beside her. Who did Bloodyrondo have to complete what he believed was right?
"Sounds like a challenge," Autumngossamer said playfully, but leaned into the side of his muzzle, "I promise I'll never hate you."
I've already tried and failed at that.
As they walked Autumngossamer looked like she was about to say something to Bloodyrondo when she heard a tiny whimper. Her gaze swept across the land, but as she glanced around she could pick out a tiny golden pelt ahead of them at the border. "Is that a kit?" She asked, speeding up her pace.
Solarkit leaned in close to Astralkit, "Do you think moms okay? She's been gone for so long... What if she got lost?"
Bloodyrondo would not question her words. He wasn't all that great from telling truth from lie and would favor whichever was most convenient for him. He returned Autumngossamer's head bump and was quietly purring, happy that at least this door was not closed, when he heard the distant whimpering of kits. He paused mid-step and tasted the air. NightClan. He followed Autumngossamer's line of sight and his eyes widened when he, too, saw a golden pelt.
"We had better go investigate," But the intention as clear, Bloodyrondo was a notorious kit thief thanks to his actions against SwiftClan, and he fully intended on bringing them home with him regardless of if their parent was there or not. He slowed down as he approached the little ones and was overjoyed to see that there were two kits, each the right age to potentially be the Sun God reincarnated, "What are you two doing here?"
Solarkit stared up at the two approaching cats and stood up in delight, "Oh, do you know where are mom is? She said she had a surprise and left, we're really worried she's lost," She said, using we even though Astralkit hadn't even confirmed if she was worried about their mom being lost.
"How long have you been waiting?" Autumngossamer asked.
"DAYS!" Solarkit exaggerated, but really had no concept of time.
Autumngossamer was just about rolling her eyes at Bloodyrondo, the way he eyed the kits as though they were already his. She wasn't even sure if the state of SunClan could even take care of these kits. They looked too young to have been weaned off of milk completely, did SunClan even have queens given everything that happened?
"Is that true, has it been days?" Autumngossamer asked, looking to Astralkit this time.
Astralkit raised a paw and collided it with the back of her sister's head. "Do you have bees in your brain?" She hissed. "We don't know them! They could be an enemy!" She glared up at Autumngossomer, pure strength gleaming in her blue eyes and her fluffy kitten fur fluffing up in a black puff ball in attempt to make herself look bigger. "I don't have to tell you anything! Now, if you'll excuse us, we have to go find our mum."
"Poor things, let's get you something to eat, we can look for your mama once you have a full stomach," Bloodyrondo purred, lowering himself to the same level as they were, his eyes meeting Astralkit's gaze directly since she seemed to be the stronger willed of the two. He could tell these kits were NightClan, it didn't take a genius to figure out that much, but their story didn't fit what he'd expect a couple mischievous runaway kits to say. Plus, they were much too young to get this far without some kind of guidance. He'd have to wait to ask them how they got here once they were back in SunClan, "I'm Bloodyrondo, and this is my friend Autumngossamer. What are your names?"
Solarkit let out a soft whimper as her sister struck her across the head, she had never been hit before, "I'm sorry, I'll be better," She promised pitifully. She had thought her sister would appreciate her taking leadership in finding their mom, but now she stayed quiet, letting her sister take the lead. When Bloodyrondo asked his question she stayed quiet, her head looking the other way to avoid his friendly gaze.
"Listen, we can't reasonably leave you to find your mom by yourself," Autumngossamer said, as usual a flare of attitude lay thick and rich in her voice, "So why don't we find her?" She asked, but her gaze was looking right at Bloodyrondo, telling him they should look for the mom and less so to the kits. Although she couldn't relate more, she had been just a bit older than them when some smelly DayClan patrol took her in. They said they found her and her siblings nestled up against a fox who had been nursing them. At least in this case they didn't have to fight off a fox, but there was a Bloody and that was a challenge already.
Bloodyrondo gave Autumngossamer a hard look. She was intuitive enough to tell his intentions, so why was she trying to stear him away from it? There was no Clan safer in the world for a kit than SunClan, "No, we will look for her later." He said more firmly, standing back up to his full height in an unconscious attempt to intimidate the former Soothsayer, "We will take them to SunClan now."
"Oh ho, will we?" She asked in amusement, but the tone was dangerous. Her ice queen eyes met his as he stood taller, right before the moment became tense she shrugged, "Okay, but if some big dude twice your size beats you to a pulp for stealing his wife's kids I'm not obliged to help," Autumngossamer said pointedly. As usual her rebellious nature came back down to her desire to keep herself safe.
Looking back at the kits she lowered herself to their level, "I expect you each to keep your paws to yourselves and if you do I'll let you take any toy you want out of this secret prize box I have. Do you two think you can do that?"
Astralkit felt a little bad for hitting her sister but Solar was being too friendly. She didn't trust these cats. She took a step back, fighting back the tears coming to her eyes. Although Astral was rather strong, she was also scared. She was scared for her mother, scared for herself and her sister. She flinched when Autumngossomer crouched to their level and began talking about a secret box. "I-I don't care about toys. I want to find my mom."
"Oh hon, I know. You miss your mom, of course you do," Autumngossamer cooed gently before lying down on the floor next to them, "How about we wait two more minutes and if she doesn't come we'll leave the biggest arrow ever on the ground so she knows where you went and can come find you."
Solarkit looked back at her sister with a teary eyed expression, but that did seem alright. So long as their mom could find them... "But what if moms hurt, we have to help her."
"Oh, I bet your mama is the strongest cat in the forest, I'm sure she's okay," She enthused.
Autumngossamer often had the reputation of being the reluctant mother, but it couldn't have been further from the truth. Her first litter was one she adopted from Honeysplash, even with postpartum depression she had buckled down raising her girls while working as soothsayer. But one thing she knew was leveling with her kids and being honest, but also accommodating. The kits looked so lost, they needed some semblance of control even if it was waiting two minutes.
"Of course she's the strongest cat in the forest! Our mum is a leader!" She boasted, puffing out her tiny fluffy chest. "I bet she could take on anything. I think leaving her an arrow is a good idea. She will come and find us!"
A leader? Given that they were at the NightClan border, Bloodyrondo did the mental math and came to the conclusion that yes, these kits were just about that right age to be Flamingstar's, and shared a likeness to her. But would a leader seriously let her young kits get this close to the border, totally unattended? That he didn't buy. Either way, he had already decided that he wanted these two kits as his, be their mother a leader or some diseased kittypet. He liked the fire in their eyes, recognized it even. They would fit in well in his SunClan.
"You know, I'm a leader, too," Not quite true yet, but he wasn't about to explain the details at a time like this, "Of the strongest Clan of them all," He cast Autumngossamer a sideways glance, he didn't really want to stick around here for a couple minutes but she'd already made the promise. An a promise, to him, was a tool for control. Denying it now was the same as breaking their flimsy trust, "After Autumngossamer here makes that arrow, I'll take you home, fill up those empty stomachs, and let you get a good long rest. I'll even send patrols to keep an eye out for her."
"And what clan could possibly the strongest of them all?" Astralkit questioned, raising a brow. If she was going to be staying in their clan until their mother found them, they had to be strong enough to protect them.
