Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
His apprentice, Pumpkinspice, was a full Nursery Aid now. Crownglass's chest swelled with pride. His kits were all happy and thriving, and soon they'd be apprentices as well. He wanted to spend as much time with them as possible, but he was still overjoyed to learn he had a new apprentice to raise, Darlingpaw. Her last mentor had failed her, but he wouldn't! Crownglass was finally finding a home, and he was going to prove to his clan that he was grateful.
Darlingpaw had been a little strange at the ceremony yesterday, but that was probably because she was in shock about getting a new mentor. Maybe she would be fine today.
So after nuzzling his family goodbye, he headed to wait outside the apprentice's den for Darlingpaw.
Darlingpaw sat in her nest picking at the moss that lined it, she knew that her new mentor would be waiting for her but she made no move to go and greet him. Today was just another day, passing of time until the end so why should she put so much effort in when it could all be over in the blink of an eye... A restless sigh blew from her lips, how much longer should she make him wait, perhaps she would just leave and pretend he isn't there as she did on the day of the ceremony.
"I'm trapped in here if he comes in." She whispered, making up her mind on what to do the scar riddled apprentice stood up and walked from the den and into the clearing. A smirk flitted across her face when she saw Crownglass in the corner of her vision but she didn't stop. I was right, how far will he go before he too gives up? Her last mentor didn't put up with her for long, but the fact that this tom was here now showed he had at least a little more determination than the last.
Crownglass waited outside the den, his tail curled around his paws. He was settled in for the long run; even if it took her a while to come out, she had to eventually if she wanted to get something to eat today. His patience was rewarded when the she-cat finally emerged, and his face lit up with a pleased smile.
"Good morning, Darlingpaw," he began, slipping into a confused frown as she marched right past him. He stood up and hurried after her, wondering if she just hadn't seen him there. Crownglass had a feeling she did, but it wouldn't help to be a pessimist right now.
"Training?" She turned her head as she walked so that she could just see him, a convincing but still fake look of confusion gracing her features. She enjoyed how easy it was to get a reaction from the warrior. "Oh, Right, right, You haven't given up yet.. That was the last one." Her paws stopped moving and she turned completely so they were face to face. "I guess we'll have to fix that, shall we go?" She didn't hold out much hope, so far no one had been able to handle her attitude, either too hurt to face her again or too annoyed to put up with it any longer. She wanted to test which Crownglass fell under and just how long he would push himself to keep going.
"Darlingpaw." Crownglass smiled at her, steady. "I'm not like your last mentor. I will never give up on you. You deserve a mentor that cares about you and your future. If it takes you a while to accept me, that's okay. I'll be here when you're ready."
His promise made, he straightened up and turned away from her to the camp exit. "Yes, we should get going. We've got a long day of fun ahead of us!"
The apprentice rolled her eyes but turned toward the camps entrance, was it planned or did Hystericstar just happen to randomly pair her with thus specific mentor. "I don't think our ideas of fun are the same, but you can give it your best shot."
"Well, if you don't think today is fun, then tomorrow you can choose one of our activities. I'm sure we can find a way to make your training fun," Crownglass assured her. He was glad she was willing to give him a chance, even if it wasn't really her choice. He was her mentor, she had to go to training if she ever wanted to be promoted.
Darlingpaw nodded to her mentor, a look of indifference dulling her facial features. "I'm going to hold you to that, dont think I'll let you forget." She immediately began to think of all the things she would rather do, things she would be able to do tomorrow because she was positive she would not find any joy in their training today. "So, what is this super fun thing you have planned?" She didn't much care either way, but may as well prepare herself ahead of time, surprises were not a thing Darlingpaw was fond of.
"As you should! I know other warriors have left you down in the past, but I won't," Crownglass promised. He just hoped she would be creative in her choice. "We're going to find smoothy, shiny rocks from the bottom of the river and bring them back to the camp for the kittens to play with." It was a simple task, but he was confident. Diving to the bottom would test her swimming skills, and he could splash her to start a game between them; maybe they'd even do some battle practice in the water if she needed to let out her rage. And the kittens would love the gift. Who could feel bad when they saw big kit smiles?
