Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
( Open to SunClan members, and any DayClan or SpringClan prisoners who are willing to attempt SunClan's initiation. )
Senators, round up the prisoners who wish to become SunClan Initiates. Once they have chosen their rogue name, briefly explain SunClan and the Initiation process to them. Do not tell them the consequences for failing initiation.
Mountainsound stepped into the makeshift camp, cool, but not cold, air swirling around her gray tabby frame. The former medicine cat's expression was neutral as her head turned, breathing in the scents of the other clans who occupied this space. The Senators had been given instructions to find anyone who wished to attempt their initiation and formally accept them as SunClan Initiates. With the caveat of not letting slip what the consequences were. To put it simply... the blind she-cat wasn't pleased. No one would attempt it if they knew what was at stake, and she supposed that was exactly why the High Priestess had told them to keep their mouths shut about it. Foxstar wanted to get these cats killed.
Her head turned slightly to the other SunClan cats who'd come with her to try and convince cats to agree to becoming Initiates, promising those who did more prey, better bedding, and other such things. "Any questions?" She queried, wanting to ensure they understood completely before continuing.
"My names going to be Eclipse!" Eclipsepaw squeaked in excitement.
"N-No. Honey, you have to change your name to not be so close to your original name," Wispyfeather said softly to her daughter.
"Oh. Okay. Paw!" Eclipsepaw exclaimed as her mother face palmed herself, likely causing an indention to her forehead at this point.
"You're such an idiot Eclipsepaw, you have to come up with a totally different name. Like I'm not Heatherpaw anymore, I'm Amber," Heatherpaw explained, "And because of that I'm going to be accepted into SunClan which is a way better clan cause it didn't get taken over. I just hope a loser like you doesn't get accepted because I don't want your bad traits tainting up this clan." Eclipsepaw's eyes lost their brightness as she shuffled her paws, "Maybe I'll just stay Eclipsepaw and go back over to dad..." she said softly.
Splashfoam blinked. He'd seized the opportunity to try and become an initiate when the chance had been presented to him, but that was mainly because he hadn't been paying attention and didn't exactly know what he was signing up to. "Wait...I have to change my name?" he asked, as slow on the uptake as always. "Call me Speckle, then. That's...kind of the same thing as a splash. But different."
Strawberrypaw whined, "I like my name! I think it suits me. Why shouldn't it be close to my original name?" She sighed. "Okay, whatever. I'll be...Dream. I like that. Maybe that suits me too."
Illuminatedpaw shuffled his paws as he listened to Heather- Amber speak.
He didn't like the idea of losing his name. For StarClan's sake, he had been wondering and fretting about what -paw would be changed to when he was made a warrior.
He didn't like change. He glanced at Windchaser and then looked down again. He had gone along because she was doing it... but the whole idea of leaving DayClan, losing his identity as Illuminatedpaw, as Illuminatedanything really, was like a weight in his stomach. He wished he hadnt come here. He wished DayClan wasnt under SunClan control.
Solarflare hmmed, losing his name was unfortunate. But now he could choose one that fitted him. Maybe something like Radiance? Dash? Nah they didnt sound that good.
Whitepaw hung near the edge of the group, ears turned back against his head as he considered what he'd gotten himself into by deciding to follow through on this 'initiation'. He had barely started to become accepted by his Clanmates, barely started to get used to his duties as an apprentice, and now he had to deal with this. Honestly, he wasn't overly concerned. It intrigued him, this problem his Clan now faced. As far as the black-masked tom knew, his best options certainly seemed to just comply. Even if he did have training, a medicine cat apprentice wasn't going to do much right now to break his Clan free from SunClan's control. He brightened up a little at the talk of new names, ears perking up as he spoke. "Hey, I had a name I used before. I could be Magic again." It had been a few moons since Whitepaw had gone by that name, but he could never really forget the word. It seemed fitting to use the name his mother had given him.
"Oh, wow, I had another name, too. That's so cool," chirped a gold-furred she-cat, rearing up onto too-short hindlegs so she could catch a glimpse of Whitepaw from her position nearer to the center of the small group. Her head cocked to the side, the DayClan apprentice was still reared up like a groundhog as she added, "I dunno if I want everyone calling me 'Tart', though." Trailpaw dropped from her position, onto only three legs as the fourth paw lifted up towards her muzzle with a thoughtful look in her eyes. "I think I'd much prefer something cool, like 'Adventure'. Or 'Seeker'." Bright yellow eyes turned towards the SunClan cats, curiosity flashing in her eyes as she asked, "Why can't we just chose part of our current names, though? I like Trailpaw. Glowstar let me pick it out myself."
Mountainsound smiled softly. Of all cats, she was probably one of the best to be given the task, namely for her kind and caring disposition, no matter how much she disagreed with the orders given to her. "You can choose part of your current name for your initiate name." She pointed out lightly, though her tone clearly stated that this wasn't recommended. "The question is, why would you want to? You're starting a new chapter in your lives, so why shouldn't you want to indicate that by changing your name, even just a little bit. Foxstar, for example, has lived under four names now. The prefix has remained constant, but she was dubbed Foxdusk at her warrior ceremony, took on Foxdawn when she moved to DayClan, and became Foxhour when she returned. Now she is Foxstar. After all, this is only temporary. Once you pass the trial, you'll be given an entirely new name. Take this time to wash yourself of your pasts, and contemplate your future. If you have a particular warrior name in mind for your promotion, feel free to request it, so long as the warrior name doesn't include any part of your previous names, the initiate name included."
She wouldn't stop them choosing an initiate name from their current one, many rogues kept their names, and even Green had gone by a past name. Of course, it was a nice show of dedication to change things up. "On the subject of names, why don't we start a little lesson now, while you're choosing your initiate names. If you're all ready, and no one else wants to come, then we should be off. We're going to study at the hot springs near here. Hopefully that'll be comfortable. Anyway, as I was saying..." The Senator turned, waving them to follow with a twitch of her tail. She didn't pause to wait, simply assuming they'd follow. It's not like she could see them ditching anyway.
"Names in SunClan. Here in the clan, names are chosen slightly differently than in other clans. Most often, parents will choose their litter's warrior names at birth, and let the Priestesses know of their decision, leaving no question as to what the kitten will one day be called. For example, Foxstar's grandchildren, Empyreanpaw and Spellpaw already have their names picked out. They will be 'Empyreanliason' and 'Spellmania' upon promotion, as chosen by their parents, Dealfinder and Valleystep. Other cats, like Mythospaw, don't grow up with one laid out for them. Instead, they request one themselves. Mythospaw has requested to be called 'Mythosseraphim', and Foxstar has already promised him the name. So, while I can't guarantee that she listens to you, if you'd like to ask for a particular name for yourself, you're free to do so, and I encourage it, actually."
Darkcomplex, one of the other SunClan cats present, and a former Initiate, stood silently at the back of the group, his mouth shut tightly. The tom chose to remain silent, namely due to his knowledge of the Initiation process. He was there as proof of it's success, mostly just to answer basic questions if they should have any.
Amber didn't sass Windchaser back knowing better that a warrior could assign her to cleaning out nests and getting rid of ticks for as many moons as they'd like... Although they were in DayClan, Windchaser if anything was her equal now along with all the other warriors. She could say what she want and do what she wanted so long as it didn't actually anger any Sunclan cats.
"My mom named me Eclipse for my eye," Eclipsepaw said, pointing to her blue eye with an orange hue encapsulated around her pupil like a sunflower, "If I don't call myself Eclipse, someone may name me oddball, Eclipse is a pretty way to draw attention to my eye, but not in a negative way so bullies don't do it for me."
"Yeah, that's still a pretty weird eye. Oh! That can be your warrior name, Weirdeye," Amber exclaimed.
Eclipsepaw winced and moved closer to Dream.
"This name is all I have left to remember my parents by. If I don't have this name then I don't even have memories," Wispyfeather said with a sudden look of defeat.
She was willing to cooperate, to leave it all behind to make sure her family could get through these difficult times, but... The name meant so much to her, renaming herself was like letting go of the last and only thing her family had ever given to her, "I don't know if I can do that..." The queen whispered looking back at Eclipsepaw and Dream, she was doing it for them and her upcoming litter, she didn't have a choice, "I'll go with Amity. Now choose a different name Eclipsepaw, this is our new home and you need to act like it like your sister, I won't be offended when you change your name."
"Well uh... Illuminatedpaw, what are you changing your name to?" Eclipsepaw asked.
Illuminatedpaw straightened at being pointed out, and ducked his head. He had no beter ideas.
"Well... i havent come up with a new name yet.... but uh, well eclipses is when the moon covers the sun or vice versa maybe.. you could be Luna?"
Solarflare frowned, "uh... but this is SunClan," He looked at the senators a bit worriedly. "They might take offense to a name relating to the moon, its not very .. praising of the sun."
"Well um her name could be Lunareclipse!" Illuminatedpaw meowed, "wh-where the moon gets... eclipsed by the sun?" He suggested a bit weakly. He shuffled his paws, hed just been trying to help. He looked at the other cats sensing encrouching disapproval. "Or maybe not..." He hesitated thinking hard. All eclipsepaws name brought references to the moon... maybe a subtler reference wouldnt offend the sunclan cats? "Maybe Diana?" He suggested for eclipsepaw. "Its the name of a great hunter, from an old story." He left out its connection to the moon hoping no one else knew and could call him on it
"I think im gonna go with Drake," Solarflare decided after a moment. "Sounds badass and cool."
Illuminatedpaw shuffled his paws massively uncomfortable.
Windchaser wrapped her tail around Illuminatedpaw. "I think those are clever names" she encouraged but she understood the fear of offending the Sunclan cats. "I think Im going to go by Wind, if thats okay. Its the best thing that describes me that I can think of. Illuminatedpaw," Windchaser continued "do you have any good ideas for my name? Your just so good at coming up with them!"
"Corona." Darkcomplex suggested to Eclipsepaw. "It's the light you see around the edges of the moon during a solar eclipse. You could use that as your Initiate name. Or in your warrior name, if you'd like. Something like Coronaradiance, or Midnightcorona would sound nice? Halo could work as well, for something simpler, either as your initiate name or with your warrior name." His tone was gentle, and he offered a slight smile to Illuminatedpaw for the attempt, though his expression clearly said that his suggestion was a very, very, bad idea.
Eclipsepaw perked up a bit to her friends coming to her aid, Amber only glanced to the side.
"Mmm. I guess you can fit in since everyone else thinks so. You'll do a better job as an apprentice here then you ever did as a DayClan cat. Those folded ears, you couldn't hear anything from far away, your short legs, you could hardly run across any of our fields. Maybe catching a creature of prey off guard will serve as a helpful crutch for you," Amber suggested to Eclipsepaw.
Eclipsepaw's fur felt hot with embarrassment as she licked at her pelt fiercely, but relaxed at Darkcomplex's words, "I'll use um... You know I will use Luna for now, I don't belong to SunClan yet, but when I am initiated I'll change it to Coronaradiance, it sounds beautiful and will symbolize my change from outsider to official member."
She still looked a bit unnerved by Amber's comments so she moved closer to Illuminatedpaw and Windchaser knowing that they would likely be nicer to her.
Amity watched Dream and Luna with concern lit in her gaze, "Is the apprentice training safe here? Will they be behind in training as initiates instead of apprentices? And what about my kits that have yet to be born, I'd really like a medicine cat to be there to ensure they come out healthy and I was really hoping their father, Snowprince could see be there to see them too, will that be an issue even though he's not initiated?"
Amity looked like she was on the verge of a panic attack.
"I really, really, hope you decide to change your Initiate name." Darkcomplex wasn't a fearful cat, even Glowstar could attest to that. He was usually gung ho about mischief and trouble, but the tom looked downright worried at Luna's choice of name, giving the apprentice a look as if she was a dead cat walking while he murmured his sentence. Not exactly the most comforting of things, coming from a former Initiate.
Her smile faltered a touch at Eclipsepaw, but she ultimately said nothing. She couldn't force the apprentice to choose something else. Well, she could, she supposed, but she decided to let her figure it out during their studying. Mountainsound's ears, however, perked at Amity's question. "Training wise, we can arrange training sessions for the apprentice aged cats. Safety depends on your definition. Many cats spar with sheathed claws, others take their apprentices straight out to fight rogues and loners or cause trouble with other clans. It really depends on the specific cat leading the training session, though you needn't worry about them falling behind. You, of course, will have someone assisting with your birth. Myself and my mate, Ebonygold, are both former medicine cats, and one of us will almost certainly be there to help you. Don't worry about that. As for Snowprince, I doubt Foxstar will see the point in it, though if he's around he may be allowed to stay with you. It's not something I would count on, however, if he's unwilling to join SunClan."
They were almost to the Ceremony Springs. She could feel the Burial Grounds' sunflowers wreathing around them, and the air getting warmer as they walked on, until eventually they broke free from the stalks, out into open field with humid, heated air swirling around them. "Now, the Initiation process itself is rather like apprenticeship. You're going to be given menial tasks, like getting rid of ticks or gathering moss, divided among you and SunClan's apprentices. Most of your time however, will be spent studying. You need to learn the culture, traditions, and most importantly the religion. The trial is nothing to balk at, and it's not something you can lie your way through. It's a test of the heart, after all. When you take the trial, each of you will be judged to determine your loyalty and commitment to SunClan.
"If it's a test of the heart than do I really need to study? Cause if I just devote my loyalty and suck at remembering I could totally still do this right? I mean what if like, a super dumb kit was born, like he's just got some brain issues. And then he's got trouble remembering, but loves his family and clan. Like he would still totally pass right? Or can only people with big brains and hearts pass? Or is it the other way around where someone who's a total nerd could pass, but be as shallow as a puddle? Cause I mean I could probably do one or the other, but like be a brainiac and a decent person is just like. I don't know hard?" Amber both questioned, commented, and concerned herself over somehow all in one ball of conversation.
"Are there really ticks and fleas out in the winter in SunClan?" Luna asked, cocking her head to the left.
Amity rolled her eyes, she wondered how SunClan apprentices behaved compared to DayClan's apprentices. DayClan's apprentices weren't even a range, they were typically happy go lucky or an utter pain to deal with.
