Raveneye chuckled in agreement with him and when they entered the clearing, she looked around with a small smile. The flowers danced delicately in the slight breeze that blew through the clearing. The moon above gave them some light to get a good view around the meadow and the black she-cat took in the view in appreciation. “It’s a beautiful place. I’ll have to remember how to get here when I go out hunting in the future.” She replied, stepping into the tall grass and bending down to examine some of the flowers.

“Yeah, I haven’t gotten to use it much myself. It’s a bit far from camp,” he said with a small frown. “The best hunting spot is by multi-falls though. It’s a little out of the way now, but I should probably take you there on the way back...” Looking around the meadow for a bit, his tail eventually pointed off towards a more overgrown edge of the field. “If you go through there you’ll end up at the abandoned garden I think?” He tried to remember if that’s how Beetleflight took him there, but he was pretty creeped out about the place.

Raveneye looked over to where Softpaw pointed with interest. “Abandoned garden? Sounds like an interesting place.” She replied. “We can keep moving now if you’d like.” The black she-cat looked down at the apprentice and waited for him to show the way. She has learned so much over the course of tonight and she was worried she would forget it all tomorrow. Hopefully not.

"Okay!" Softpaw said as he turned around and trotted out of the meadow. Another peek at the sky told him that he needed to reroute their course. The blackness of the night was starting to take on a pale blue color which would bring sunrise soon after. Not wanting to be caught out during the light hours, he chose to bring them straight West instead of further South. The trees became denser the more they went, blocking out most of the view above, but Softpaw could hear a faint splashing sound ahead and used it as his guide.

Raveneye trotted after him with a slight smile. She had quite enjoyed their endeavor through the night and the black she-cat felt some disappointment that it was ending already. Oh well. Maybe they could continue another night. Raveneye focused on her surroundings and what was ahead of her as the entered the dense forest. The trees blocked out some of the fading moonlight, darkening their path. She figured this will probably be their last stop before heading back to camp. “Are you enjoying your training?” Raveneye asked, trying to start a conversation to fill the comfortable silence that had grown.

“It’s okay,” Softpaw answered thoughtfully. “I’m not Beetleflight’s first apprentice, so he’s really good a training me. So far we’ve only worked on territory familiarization and some hunting basics. But it’s tricky.” He paused for a moment as he remembered his paws fumbling to hold onto his prey long enough to deliver a killing bite—only to have them slip away in the end. There’d only been a couple of attempts that gone well. “We’re still working on a good technique.”

“That’s great that you have a mentor who can work with you well. I’m sure you’ll get the hang of things and master them all in no time.” Raveneye encouraged with a smile. “Don’t let a few slip ups here and there get you down either. Everyone struggles. It took me forever to learn how to hunt properly. Midnight tried his best, but I was always scaring away the prey.” The black she-cat remembered the fond memory of the loner trying to help her hunt a bird and she accidentally sneezed, scaring it away. She was always too loud or her aim was off when leaping, but she managed to get better with time and practice.

His head swiveled her way, revealing his saucer-wide eyes. "Really?" He had a hard time picturing Raveneye ever struggling to hunt. She seemed very precise with her movements--more graceful than a lot of his clanmates anyway. And it wasn't like she was a mouse-brained cat either. Quite the opposite. But then, she had her scars too. Perhaps, Softpaw really could become just as useful to the clan as every other.

A laugh escaped the warrior as she nodded. “Yeah. It took a lot of self-training and time to learn how to master hunting and fighting with my blind eye. All you need to know is that nothing is impossible. Never forget that.” She told him, with a smile. Raveneye had lost count of how many times she failed over and over again before she ever got anything right. “If you ever need anything or help, you could always come to me. I am always willing to help.”

His body felt as warm as it did when they were in the hot springs, and he smiled gratefully at her. "Okay, I won't forget." He realized that there might come a time where even Beetleflight would struggle to find an alternative way for him to hunt or fight, and if not, he could always safely practice with Raveneye. Any excuse to be around his new friend would be well worth it.
Continuing onward, the splashing sounds grew more noticeable and the two came across the river again. Only this time, the river split into multiple, small waterfalls or rapids that shimmered under the setting moon. The pattern of miniature waterfalls seemed to stretch for a while up and down the river before returning to normal. "This is multi-falls," Softpaw explained. "This is where most cats come to hunt." Even though the river itself wouldn't offer much for prey, the lush vegetation around the multi-falls produced enough wildlife for plentiful hunting.

Raveneye glanced at the multiple falls running through the river and it was quite a sight to see. Unlike the other, bigger waterfall, the noise here was pleasant and almost soothing to her ears. It was an ideal place to relax and she could see why most warriors chose this spot for hunting. It would no doubt be thriving with prey all year round. "This is an idealistic place for hunting. I can see why most chose to come here." The warrior responded as she moved closer, peering into the river. Small shadows darted beneath the surface of the water. No doubt this place was also a rich spot for fishing. Mhm, the she-cat did like the taste of fish.

"Yeah," he yawned, walking over to the riverbank to peer down as well. He noticed the shimmering scales of fish beneath the water as well and tilted his head in wonder. Softpaw knew NightClan cats were taught how to fish, but he had yet to start those lessons. In fact, he didn't even think he'd eaten a fish before. Looking both ways, he began padding upstream, "We should be able to cross a little before the falls."

Raveneye lifted her gaze from the river and nodded in agreement. "Sounds good. We should make it back to camp in no time." She replied, eyeing the ever brightening sky. She knew she would come back here later and test out her skills in fishing. She had not done so in a while and wanted to make sure she did not forget. Maybe she could teach some of the skill to Softpaw as she noticed the apprentice peer into the river with interest.

"I hope so! I feel like I'm gonna flop over any second now," Softpaw sighed dramatically. They didn't have to walk far at all to get to a calmer part of the river with stones scattered in the water. It would be easier to fall in here, but his pelt wouldn't get muddy like last time. Leading the way, the apprentice hopped from one stone to another, only slipping slightly on the last one. Once he was safely on the other side, he turned to watch Raveneye cross as well.

The she-cat laughed at the dramatic nature of the apprentice. "Yes. You look very tired." She replied in a teasing way. She watched Softpaw cross the river with a sharp eye. In the short time she has known the apprentice, she had grown a little protective over him. Satisfied that he made it across safely, she followed in suit. Raveneye nimbly moved forward, hopping from stone to stone. They were a little slippery from the river, but she managed to make it across without getting her paws wet. The warrior landed neatly on the bank beside the apprentice.

"You make everything look so easy!" Softpaw pouted, but his words came out in a purr. Feeling wild for no real reason other than maybe exhaustion, he crouched low and wiggled his haunches. "But I bet I could beat you back to camp!" Forgetting that this was Raveneye's first time exploring the territory, the apprentice turned and took off in a full-sprint, his silver fur shining under the light of dawn.

"Wait, what?" Raveneye blinked in surprise as the apprentice took off. She shook her head with a grin and took off after the apprentice. "I'm gonna beat you!" She called out, laughing. Her black pelt flashed in the rising sun as she bopped and weaved through the trees. Her paws thundered on the ground as she sprinted after Softpaw, trying to catch up with the nimble tom.

Darting through the woods, Softpaw leaped over rocks and pushed his way through bushes, trying to move in as straight a line as possible to keep ahead. His heart was pounding in his chest and ringing in his ears, but he could hear Raveneye's footsteps behind him. Laughing, he glanced over his shoulder, "Not running like that you wo-" Forepaw snagging on an exposed root, the bengal flipped forward into a surprised summersault, landing sprawled out on his stomach. A strange grunt escaped him as the air was knocked out of him from the fall.

Raveneye’s paws sped up, trying to catch up to the apprentice, a smile on her face. When the apprentice looked back and fired a comment, she was about to reply when he suddenly disappeared from view. All she heard was a crash and a grunt from where the apprentice disappeared and the she-cat pushed herself faster and skidded to a halt beside the downed apprentice. Worry and concern was written upon her face. “Softpaw! Are you okay?” She asked, leaning down to inspect the young tom.

Slowly, he pushed himself onto his feet to analyze his health. Other than the obvious soreness one would expect from a tumble like that, only his right paw had an additional ache. "I think so," he mewed, ducking his head in embarrassment. "My paw got snagged on a root and I tripped." He tried to shift some of his weight onto the aforementioned paw, and winced. A sharp pain caused him to lift his appendage from the ground. "It hurts a little..."
