Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Her lungs were burning by the time the she-cat had made it to SwiftClan territory. She hadn’t been given much time but the moment she heard of her brother’s plans to attack SwiftClan she started running as if her life depended on it. Didn’t it though? Indigo and Beast, and the kits weren’t the only ones in trouble if they were found out now. So once again she found herself running at a high speed, not paying attention to where her paws were taking her. Maybe right to the camp if she had to to warn them. She hasn’t really thought about what she was going to say to her brother and friend, or how Chimerstar would react to a SunClan Janus barging into his camp like the forest was on fire. Luckily she didn’t have to. Suddenly the young cat was jarred out of her own thoughts as she collided with something solid, but still soft. A familiar scent filled her nose as she fell into the cat that she had just knocked over. Never before had she been so relieved to run into any cat in her life.
After arguing with his medicine cat once again, the leader was forced to go for a walk alone in a vain attempt to recover his hold on his emotions. He couldn't believe how stupid Firetooth had been; he'd always been insolent and bitter and childish, but opening jeopardizing his clan was another matter entirely, and Firetooth didn't appear guilty or ashamed of his actions. It was making him feel older than ever. Had he ever been that irresponsible?
Stalking through the open land with his head low, he didn't notice the cat running up on his blind side until it was too late. The impact knocked him off his paws and he went tumbling, bouncing hard off the ground until he rolled to a stop a few paces away from where he had been standing. Chim groaned as he pulled himself upright into a half-sitting position, his anger momentarily evaporating as he recognized the cat that had hit him.
"I thought I told you to watch your paws?" Chim huffed. "What are you doing back here?"
"I... Thought I.... Told you... To watch... Your... paws." The breathless reply came out instinctively before she could even bite her tongue. She didn't come here to argue with Chimerastar but she couldn't help it. She didn't bother to sit down, her lungs were screaming with relief from finally stopping but, now she was breathing so hard she feared they might very well explode in her chest. "Do you ever watch where you're going?" the she-cat she her head in mild exasperation. Momentarily forgetting that she'd just ran here with an urgent message.
He rolled his eyes. She hadn't changed at all since they last met. "Only when you're not around, it appears," he replied, holding himself back. He had taken extra care to pay attention to his surroundings the first few days after she first ran into him, but he couldn't be on guard all the time. A lack of food and sleep already had his energy waning, not to mention the constant stress he was under. Solitary walks were the only way he could recharge, and he couldn't be alert while he was relaxing.
He straightened up only a little, fixing her with his stern half-gaze. "If you didn't go sprinting about so far from your own territory, we wouldn't have this problem."
"You can't prove that this is entirely my fault, you're always in my path." she snapped back, meeting his glare with her own. She was ready to stand here and argue with this tom for the sake of arguing if that's what it came down to. "Look, I don't have all day to stand here and argue with you, I have an urgent message to pass on and you're in my way!" The fact that the SwiftClan leader was tired and stressed was not lost on her but, she didn't have time to address it, maybe she'd catch him a mouse on her way back, if.. he'd let her.
Brow arched, he stared at her impatiently, waiting for her to go on. "If you have an urgent message, then give it to me. This is my clan, I need to know if it's important," he reminded her. She was running too recklessly to be spreading a personal message, and what private argument would be considered urgent anyway? There was little reason for her to be communicating with his clanmates to begin with, though he was ready to forgive that; it wasn't his leadership style to regulate who was speaking with who. He had friends... allies... in other clans as well.
Ruinedportrait seemed to remember herself as he spoke, he was right, the best person to receive the news would be the clan leader. She was almost ashamed of herself for forgetting that in her panic. "Yes, you're right, my apologies." she dipped her head swiftly to the diluted orange tom. "I'm here to warn you, and others that SunClan is leading a raid on SwiftClan and they're on their way as we speak, and I need to make sure some of your Clan mates get out safely" she insisted, her blue eyes pleading.
Chim froze for an instant, a flicker of panic in the back of his eye. He had known they would come, he had told Firetooth himself, but he hadn't expected it would be this soon. He needed to get back to his clan, to evacuate their camp while they still could. SunClan would find them, though, sooner or later; what would he do then? SwiftClan wouldn't survive an assault, not alone.
He met her eyes and nodded quickly. "Go, go," he insisted, stepping out of her way, "save whoever you can. And... thank you. I don't know why you're here, but thank you."
Chim didn't understand the other clan fully, but he knew Ruinedportrait must be risking her neck to come here and warn him. He couldn't understand why she would, but he was grateful.
relief flooded over the Janus almost making her sick. She hadn't realized she was afraid he would actually turn her down, he could have. He had every right to yet, he didn't. "Thank You" she breathed, letting out a breath she hadn't even known she was holding. Now that she had stopped running she could feel the soreness of her pads against the ground as she stood, ready to bolt again. She still had some running to do, but Chimerastar's kindness today wasn't something she would soon forget. Without a second thought the Flame-point ran off in the direction of SwiftClan's camp.
Chim watched her go until she disappeared from sight, praying he had made the right decision. She could just as easily be lying to him, or she could be leading the first wave of attacks. He trusted her. It was his only choice: he couldn't waste precious time if an attack was coming, and he believed there was a reason she was here. No cat would betray SunClan just to warn him, she had to have a bigger stake in the clan, someone else she was now racing to defend.
But he couldn't go back yet. Not if it meant dying with his clan around him, without a chance of success. Chim spun around and ran the other direction. He raced past the familiar bend of the pond and saw the great towering trees of the gathering place rise up on his left; he plunged down the slope and along the open plains until his lungs felt like they were tearing open in his chest. He stumbled across the border and headed for the trees, for the clearing he had once found when he was lost.
His pace slowed only to catch his breath enough for a choking cry to anyone that might hear: "I-I'm here for Leviathan. I need to see Leviathan."
As luck would so have it Leviathan was around to hear his own name being called, something about the urgency of the cat's tone make him break out into a run as he changed directions. Where as most of the clan had gone to bed he was still awake, and thank Selene he was. He was surprised to meet Chimerastar at the bottom of the slope, choosing to even in what was clearly a dire moment for his friend, to make a joke of it anyway. "What's wrong my friend? Have you gotten yourself lost again?" He half joked but, he could tell by the look on the other tom's face this was serious.
Chim had not been so happy to see someone in a long time. He told himself the dazzling rush of relief was because Leviathan was here to help, not because of the familiarity with which he said 'my friend.' His clan was in danger - he had to focus on that, and whatever it took, he had to convince the other leader to help him.
He stumbled to a halt in front of Leviathan, shaking his head. "I'm not lost," he promised, though casting a quick glance over his shoulder, he amended, "not completely. I came here on purpose, I might not know the exact way out... but that's not important. Leviathan, I need your help. I-I know you don't know me that well, but please hear me out."
"Breathe, and try to relax." The Black and white tom frowned watching the frantic orange tom. It had been ages since he had seen anyone so scared, granted he was the last cat anyone ever came to in search of help but he couldn't say he blamed them. Before coming to to MoonClan the Cardinal wasn't the most outgoing but in the time he had become leader he had grown more compassionate towards others. "Now, calmly tell me what's wrong? How can I help?"
He didn't have the time to calm down and relax. His clan could be fighting at this very moment. They could be dying, and he wasn't there to protect them. Anxiety quickened his breath once more as he considered the possibilities, and Chim began to pace. The rhymic movement back and forth would ease his mind as it had before, he knew it, he just had to take a moment to himself. His clan could afford to wait if it meant he won over the other leader. The other leader's support.
When his pulse started to recede and he caught his breath, Chim slowed to a halt and looked back at Leviathan urgently. "You must have been at the gathering when the Sun God died," he guessed. "My medicine cat was there, he helped make it all happen. I was worried SunClan would want revenge on them, and I think I was right. My ... source ... told me that SunClan is on its way to attack my camp right now. We can't fight them off alone. They have more cats than we do, and we don't stand a chance. I know SunClan is your enemy.. will you send a patrol, just a few cats, to help us?"
He looked away, his voice choked with fear again. "Please."
Levee watched Chim close as he spoke, his expression unreadable, until the SwiftClan leader mentioned the gathering two nights prior. Then his eyes seemed to glaze over with a far away look in his eyes, recalling the events of that night that lead to the Sun God's death and Selene's involvement. How could he forget that night that caused the moon herself to take on permanent red hue. It went without saying that the fragile truce that had formed between Sun and Moon had been shattered that night as well.
"Say no more, MoonClan will help but we need to find cats to bring with us, and we'd better hurry." The cardinal turned and ran leading the way back to the MoonClan camp.
“You will?” He was bracing himself for rejection. If the situation was reversed, would he have risked the lives of his own cats to help a stranger? Would he fight, knowing his own cats would get hurt? Chim honestly couldn’t say, but he was immensely grateful for Levee in that moment, and felt a rising tide of affection for the tomcat.
“Thank you,” he murmured, dipping his head respectfully. His lungs were only just recovering and he dreaded another run, but there wasn’t time to waste, and he chased after Levee.
