Dashing after the shrew and spitting venomous curses beneath his breath, the tom pushed himself harder and harder. The long chase was making it difficult for the sprinter to keep up, but he couldn't stop, not when the prey was so close before him. He could hear the roar of the river as they drew near, and with a final angry snarl, he threw himself forward onto the prey.
