Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
He had kept to himself ever since he joined the clan, avoiding other cats as much as necessary. Even on patrols he rarely spoke more than a word or two. Everything about him was a mystery, from his scars to his origins, only it was a puzzle no cat cared to solve; he was too distant, too guarded, there was nothing about him to arouse the curiosity of his clanmates enough they'd fight to talk to him.
But at the gathering, he had seen his family again. Watched them embrace, watched them leave without him, and it tore him to shreds inside. So today, things would change.
Floodfate sat down at the edge of camp and watched cats move about beneath the moon. They were alien to him, he did not even know most of their names. His throat dry, he finally cleared his throat and spoke the simplest words he could imagine:

"I'll join you," a dark gray tom meowed as he padded over to Floodfate. Tornadoblast's fur was more unruly than usual since he had just risen from his nest. A few clumps of moss still clung to his long fur giving him the appearance he had just tussled around on the ground with an enemy.
"So what's it going to be? A hunting or border patrol?" He stretched languidly and opened his jaws in a wide yawn. "Doesn't matter to me. I'll either catch 'em or fight 'em"
A look of immense relief filled his expression as another cat agreed to join him. Floodfate didn't know any of the other cats, and he had trouble matching names to faces: even if he remembered Tornadoblast's name, he didn't realize that was who he was looking at. To him, it was just another warrior he had seen passing around camp once or twice before.
Thank you, he thought, but he couldn't say the words aloud. He cleared his throat. "Ah-- border patrol. After the gathering, I want to keep a better eye on DayClan." A border patrol would give them more time to speak to the other cat if he could work up the courage. He did want to keep an eye on the other clan, anyway: he never trusted their friendly-looking leader.

"Sounds like a good idea," Tornadoblast replied. He shook his fur to dislodge the remaining scraps from his nest, careful not to shower Floodfate however. "DayClan is nothing but trouble, not to mention their buddies in SunClan. I didn't like how either acted at the gathering."
He realized all of a sudden that he didn't remember the gray furred tom's name. Floodface? No. Floodplain? No. Rather than make a mistake, he decided to introduce himself thus giving the other tom an opening. "By the way, I'm Tornadoblast. I bet it's hard to learn new names. Actually that's something I never had to do, well except at gatherings but then I really don't care if I know my enemies' names." He admired Floodfate's scars. He must be a fierce fighter. He had a few scars of his own from past battles but they were difficult to see because of his long fur. He figured it was just as well because this might make his opponents underestimate his ferocity.
Floodfate nodded his agreement. SunClan might be the bigger threat, but he would avoid them as much as possible: he had family over that border, and he had no desire to see them again. Technically he had lived there once, just for a moon or two, but he doubted that would make them any happier to see him. It was better to stay away until his clan decided it was necessary for him to face the other clan.
"Tornadoblast," he echoed, repeating the name several times in his mind. He had a sneaking suspicion he was going to forget it again, but he held onto the thought for now. Floodfate hated to appear weak and he hated even more that his imperfections were so visible to his new clanmates. It was difficult to fit in when he was so different, from his scarred face to his poor memory.
His weight shifted from one side to the other as he reluctantly admitted, "it isn't easy, but I'm working on it. I'm Floodfate, if you didn't know." He had picked the name out himself when he came to the clan. It was a child's jibe at his family, a constant reminder to himself and to them of the flood that had destroyed their clan.

"Well, Floodfate," the scruffy warrior meowed, relieved he had given him his name. I'm glad I didn't call him Floodface! "Do you want to wait for more cats to join us or do you want to patrol with just the two of us?" He knew border patrols often had three or more cats in them but then again this patrol wasn't an official one. It didn't matter to him if more came along. But it might be better with fewer cats, they would be able to sneak around easier making less noise.
“Let’s go alone,” he decided after a swift look around the camp. No cat looked like they were on the verge of joining the pair, and he didn’t know if he had the confidence yet to ask more cats and then contend with talking to them all on the patrol. Better to start small. He could be silent in a group, but not when there was other cat to carry on the conversation.
He headed toward the camp exit before remembering to throw over his shoulder, “if thats okay with you.”

"Fine with me," Tornadoblast meowed. He was just as well pleased this would be a small patrol. He had been feeling crowded inside the camp and wanted to get some air. As he followed Floodfate out into the woods, rich nighttime scents flooded his nose and stirred his blood. "Ah, this is living, isn't it?" He paused and took in the surroundings. "Where to? You can lead the way if you want."
Floodfate didn't answer him at first. Head down and focused, the gray-and-white warrior picked his path out of the camp and further into the woodland, making a straight line from the entrance until they were thoroughly embedded in the trees. Only then did he pause enough to consider the scents around him. Which was the best way to get to DayClan from here?
"This way," he said simply as he started walking again, heading toward the border one more. He was content to continue the patrol without another word, as he had for moons, but that was why they were out here. Floodfate was here to get to know his clanmates, no matter how much it pained him, so he slowed down and looked back at Tornadoblast.

"Actually, no," the gray warrior meowed. "Other than a few times seeing them at gatherings, I really don't know that much about them other than they're our sworn enemies." He of course being a NightClan cat had heard tales about them when he was a kit. He didn't state the obvious difference of course that they were mostly active during the daytime. Everyone knew that.
Also he didn't want to mention he had never met them in a battle. The only fights he had been in were border fights with rogues or fights with other animals like time time he helped chase a fox out of their territory. Tornadoblast didn't want to look weak or inexperienced to Floodfate. It was just that he hadn't been picked to go on those battle raids. During the last skirmish with DayClan at the White Tree he was asked to stay behind to help guard the camp. He can still feel the disappointment he felt then.
"How about you? Have you had any dealings with those light lovers?"
It was still strange for Floodfate to think of an entire clan as his sworn enemy. His first home, EarthClan, didn't have an opposite clan to face off against, and his father was from WaterClan, so he had never seen their neighbor as an enemy either. No, the only real nemeses Floodfate had were other cats. Clan disputes meant little to him.
"I fought a few of them once, but it wasn't anything memorable," he responded with a shake of his head. That was putting it lightly: he had battled DayClan cats during the Shadow Era when he was fighting to take all the clans down. All of the clans had been united then, so it wasn't special that he was matched up against the other clan.
"We'll both get our chance soon," he suggested grimly, his scarred upper lip tightening. "After what happened at the gathering, there must be a fight coming, and Flamingstar won't let us miss out." Floodfate had been there when the Sun God was killed. Most of what had happened went over his head, but he understood how angry the SunClan cats would be, and he suspected blood would be shed. One way or another they would be pulled into it.
