Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Good morning, Lostpaw! I brought you some prey to eat before we get started today."
Shatteredshine's cheerful mew chimed through the makeshift apprentices' den as she poked her head under the bushes and smiled warmly at the cats within. She set down a mouse and nudged it toward the young cat at the forefront of the den. She had offered to look after Lostpaw for the day and test her skills, and she was looking forward to getting to know the young she-cat.
She beamed, happy to see the apprentice so grateful. She didn't get nearly enough appreciation sometimes, and though she tried not to let it get to her, even a little gratitude went a long way. What a polite apprentice! She liked her already.
"Uncle Chimerastar sent me to assess your skills," she explained, "so we can start your training in the right place. I'll just look after you for the day and then Beestripe will be your mentor."
"Exactly! Don't worry if you mess anything up. You're new at this, we don't expect you to be perfect," Shatteredshine assured her. There was a mischievous twinkle in her dark blue eyes as she leaned a little closer. "Actually, if you're perfect, I'll have a bigger problem. Make a few easy mistakes so I can look good, okay?"
She laughed lightly as she straightened back up. "Take your time finishing eating, and we'll get started soon after, okay?"
"Great! Then let's head out." Shatteredshine had retreated out of the den to wait for the apprentice, but now she rose to her paws and headed for a camp exit. The small hollow they rested in didn't have many protective thickets or walls, so basically any gap between the makeshift dens served for an exit. She waved her tail at a few cats as they passed by.
She laughed warmly. "Yes, that's generally the idea. We don't follow all of the rules in SwiftClan, like the one about marking borders. We don't need to set borders, so it's much easier. And we don't care that much about friendships with other clans," she reasoned. SwiftClan didn't officially allow members to fall in love with cats from other clans, but they also didn't stop cats from coming and going as they liked, so it wouldn't be surprising if romances bloomed. "Other than that, yes, protect your clan and be kind, and you should be safe."
Shatteredshine considered only briefly. "We're going to start with hunting. Most of our cats don't like to fight anymore," she explained, "so it's better for you to provide for the clan and run away from danger instead of facing it. Besides, hunting is more fun!" She beamed. Lostpaw's tail might make hunting in trees more difficult, but Shatteredshine thought she'd be fine on the ground.
Shatteredshine crept after the young apprentice, falling behind her as Lostpaw neared the prey. She didn't want to spook it, so she hung back a safe distance and instead watched. Her tracking was strong, she had found the vole quickly and didn't scare it off by approaching too loudly. Then, to her confusion, the young cat turned and stalked upstream. Where was she going?
