The blood in his veins pumping from his heart like the frantic flutter of a frightened birds wings. He wasn't expecting this when he woke up in his cold lonely den and stretched his legs for his first steps of the morning. No this was unexpected. The storm that rolled in was angry and furious. But he hadn't expected this.
"Help!"
The cry came from the Swallowing River. The Chieftain hadn't hesitated. If a young cat had fallen in he had limited time. As he emerged from the brush he spotted the she-cat clinging to a snow littered branch. Silverpaw gasped as water passed on either side of her and splashed her in the face.
Before the chieftain could reach Silverpaw, a splash was heard from further up river. All that could be seen between the swirling currents was a flash here and there of white, snowy fur. It swam down river in elegance, drifting in one area and swimming in the next until it reached the drowning apprentice. At the moment it reached Silverpaw, it was clear that what had leaped in up stream was Frostcloud. She gripped the apprentice's scruff between her jaws and began drifting at an angle toward the shore, keeping Silverpaw's head above water. Reaching the shoreline, she hauled the sopping wet apprentice onto dry land and climbed up after her, shaking water droplets from her pelt.

Leatherstar ran towards Frostcloud and Silverpaw and grabbed the novice's scruff to help haul her to dry cold land. "That was some great swimming Frostcloud." He acknowledge with a nod of his head in approval. He turned his attention to the sodden Novice. "What were you thinking Silverpaw!?" He didnt mean to sound so angry but her mother, Cypressbluff, was one of his best friends. "What would I have told Dealfinder or Cyressbluff if you had drown?" he asked his ears twitching in his frantic anger. When his own kit died he was devastated. He could imagine what would have been of Cypress and Dealfinders hearts had their talented daughter died before she got her Thane name.
Silverpaw coughed and panted. "Thanks" she was able to meowed just before Leatherstar reared into her about her carelessness. "Im a Novice not a kit!" She defended herself.
Frostcloud acknowledged Leatherstar with a polite dip of her head before turning to Silverpaw. "Your right Silverpaw, your no kit anymore but your not invincible. You must be more careful. Leatherstar is right. You could have drown and then what would your parents think?" Her voice sounded less frantic but her cold, icy blue eyes held her fear and concern within its depths.
