Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Crimsoncrown sat by herself near the camp entrance, her amber eyes bright sharp and guarded eyes stared off into the distance. As mentally prepared as she was for training today, her mind kept drifting elsewhere. The Apprentice Exchange Program was afoot and her only son, Opalpaw and many others were now settled in their temporary clans, but not all apprentices took part in the event. Juniperpaw, Crimsoncrown's newest apprentice, was one of them.
It had been days since the new arrivals came to Springclan from various clans. Crimsoncrown was careful to keep away from the new cats, especially as it served as a reminder for the temporary lost of her own son. Having had given birth to a full litter, Opalpaw was the only one to survive past kit-hood. The experience was traumatic for the queen though she never truly revealed that to many people other than her mate. Because of it, Crimsoncrown found herself particularly protective of her son. The distance from Opalpaw now made daily life more of a struggle due to the constant worry.
Mentoring was definitely a blessing in disguise. It was the perfect excuse for the warrior to keep her mind off of the concerns for her son and put it on another. Of all apprentices she was given, it was a son of Thistlestar. He was one of Thistlestar's more quieter, reserved kits. It was a good match. Crimsoncrown managed well with more, well-mannered and calm young cats rather than the typical rambunctious kind. Though there was additional pressure to train him well, Crimsoncrown was confident in her ability to serve the apprentice well...
Juniperpaw woke from his slumber with an upset stomach. He felt queezy and nervous from his first day of training. He wasn't sure he was even ready for this. He climbed from his nest on shaky paws and crept from the apprentices den in which he had been promoted to the night before. He hadn't slept well with his nerves on edge. Spending the night for the first time without his mother was nerve wracking enough. Now, he had to start his training today and that, alone, was making him feel ill. He contemplated on calling off of training and admit to being sick. However, he knew that would t fix his problem. Even if he managed to get one day off of training, he would still have to face the day where he would begin training.
Forcing himself out into the clearing, he took one last look at the apprentice den, wishing he could just hide from all of his problems. He took a deep breath and headed for the camp entrance, his paws falling into the grooves of the countless paw prints of every cat in clan and throughout history that had walked the Springclan camp. He had many paw prints to fill, especially since his father was leader. It seemed as if he was expected to live up to all of the clan's expectations of him which only made him feel more stressed. Finally, he reached the entrance where he found his newly appointed mentor waiting for him. "G-good morning" he greeted, dipping his head politely, his paws still quivering.
Having been lost in her conflicting thoughts, she didn't noticed the apprentice stepping forward until the moment leading up to him speaking up. Crimsoncrown did not offer a smile or kind gesture, instead just taking in the very nervous apprentice. Her bright amber eyes were focused yet reserved, not giving away the storm within in.
"Good morning Juniperpaw." The warrior spoke formally, giving him a brief nod as she turned back on her heels and moved forward to exit of the camp. "We will get ourselves something to eat while we train." She explained bluntly, not bothering to look behind to make sure Juniperpaw was following. She expected him to stay close.
"O-okay...yes ma'am" he mewed politely, following her and staying close but at a respectful distance. He wasn't really hungry but he couldn't be rude. His father was the leader. He had to act his very best.
Satisfied with the apprentice's reaction, Crimsoncrown stepped forward, a small smile inched at the end of her muzzle, but it faded as she focused ahead. "I'd like to start off training with getting to know each other a little better while we make our way to the next spot." She spoke with a matter of fact tone, her posture straight and formal as she stepped through the forests. Her amber eyes took in the scene before her with careful interesting, nothing the sounds and smells to ensure no impending danger before finally continuing her formal speech. "I want to know what areas you feel you are weakest at that way we can focus on sharpening those skills as well as some goals you have in mind in the duration of your training."
"Uhh..." He thought for a moment, recalling all of the times he play fought with his siblings or practiced his hunting. "I-I think what I'm weakest at is fighting..." He admitted, lowering his head. He was probably the worst at fighting. He would never be a leader if he couldn't defend his clan.
Crimsoncrown offered a short nod before proceeding "Why do you think that is?" She asked with bold and forward intention, though it was not unkind in the slightest. There was a hint of testiness to the question that was only backed up by the fierce look and on the she-cat's expression.
Juniperkit looked at Crimsoncrown, surprised by her question. "I don't know. Maybe because I know I can't beat my opponent? Maybe I get too intimidated?" Just saying it out loud made him wince. He didn't like pointing out his weaknesses. He just wanted to impress his father.
Crimsoncrown hummed quietly in agreement "You lack the confidence to face and defeat an opponent." She pointed out blatantly, unabashedly. "But admitting it is a great start." The red she-cat turned to the apprentice's direction, offering the first sign of friendliness; the smallest of smirk at the edge of her focused expression.
