"What in the Sun God's name were you thinking?" Littlestar paced from one side of her den to the other, her tail ticking in time with her steps not even pausing as Foxbane entered into the den that they had once shared not all the long ago. Foxbane wasn't just the former high priestess, she was Littlestar's mentor and the closest thing to a mother that she had. As much as she loved Foxbane, she was equally as infuriating. She had have known that she would put her into the position at one point or another, but with everything else she had on her plate this was the last thing she had needed.
Moments after Foxbane had left with of her kits, the Janus had informed her of the betrayal. Not only had she taken an entire litter of kits to DayClan without permission, but it seemed that she had no intentions of returning them either. A growl rose in her throat "I would ask if you knew what kind of position you were putting me in, but you already know that. The cats of SunClan are calling for blood Foxbane, your blood" she stopped staring straight into her eyes
"You need to get those kits back here and now" she ordered, eyes filled with both hurt and anger

As with most things, Foxbane met the hostility with calm, cool, collection, head tilting slightly as she watched the Priestess, head tilted as she allowed the silence to stretch. And stretch. And stretch.
Then a whisper of a smile, crossed her features, despite this hardly being the situation for it. "Littlestar, let's be honest here. We both know that the majority of SunClan hates my guts already, they're simply fishing for a reason to have me killed, and I'd expect no less, I am certain there are those already seeking to assassinate me among the ranks, even without this to justify it." The Senator seemed to know something far too well when she mentioned potential assassins, but the moment passed for her daughter to question it as Foxbane continued.
"I won't be getting them back, because I've done nothing wrong." She challenged the order without a heartbeat's hesitation, even knowing that Littlestar could execute her for it, if she truly wanted to. "The code states that kits of SunClan blood belong to SunClan. It does not state, however, that they have to reside within SunClan to be part of it. Take Strikhedoniadalisay, Funkson, Duskslayer, initiate Senescence. There is a long held basis to state that they can live elsewhere part or full time, so long as they fulfill their SunClan duties." She tilted her fox face, ivy eyes softening a fraction towards Littlestar, though she didn't dare to try and comfort her in this moment.
"What you just said is a steaming pile of fox-dung and we both know it. I have been around your for far to long for your honey coated words to have any effect. This is a serious matter, and the little loop holes and technicalities you built into the SunClan code can only allow you to get away with so much" she began to pace again, anxiety and anger coming off of her in waves as her newborns in the side chamber of the den began to squeak and scream for her attention
"All your deeds are going to catch up with you one day, breaking the code or not. Those cats you just listed, yes they live in two places, but WITH permission" her tail lashed back and forth her claws digging into the earth "If you were any other cat, you would already be dead I have tried defending you time after time, but this is going to far. You can't just waltz out of camp taking half the nursery with you on a mere whim without even speaking to me. If you wanted to take them to DayClan we COULD have arranged something. However its to late now, the rest of SunClan is angry Foxbane. They are calling for your blood, and expect me to deliver it to them. Every time you do this sort of thing it brings me one step closer to being forced to kill you myself. Its something I don't want to do, but next time you head down this path I may not be able to stop it"

"Not entirely true. Senescence never asked for permission, I can guarantee that much at minimum, and could probably debate Strikhedonia and Dusky as well to some extent. But that's besides the point. I did talk to you about it, briefly, I've mentioned that DayClan had no kits, that I would perhaps get them some or something, though you're right I should have been far more clear that I meant my kits." Foxbane shrugged, watching the she-cat pace without moving, save for the occasional twitch of her tail that indicated she was perhaps not so calm as she appeared.
Her gaze locked on the ex-WinterClan cat's after her last comment, and her next words were exceptionally blunt, her tone firm, yet not necessarily angry. "Then don't."
Foxbane gave a soft sigh, though her tone was no less hard then a moment ago. "I don't need you to spare me, Littlestar. Let SunClan be angry, they can take it up with me. If you follow my logic, then don't punish me, but I'm not taking the kits back to live here full time even if you disagree. As for the clan itself, we both know how much I care. I was a tyrant Priestess, I made a cult, and I'm not blind enough to say that I haven't brought this upon myself. I simply don't give a rat's tail. I've spent far too much of my life ruling this place to be afraid of what they can do. Maybe I die, not that I'd make it easy. Maybe the Sun God decides I wasn't loyal enough and I get sent to the Dark Forest." A dangerous look darkened her expression. It was one Littlestar knew well, too well.
The Senator could claim she was reformed all she wanted, but though she had improved, and did in fact value certain cats now, at her core, she was still the same evil that made cats shiver with fear from the stories of her past. "What happens, happens. You are Priestess. And frankly, no one has any say in what is right or wrong, but you. No matter what they or even I, claim. Unless the Sun God himself comes down to tell you you're wrong, the code is yours to interpret, enforce, or even change. I didn't raise you to bow to the whims of SunClan itself. I taught you your power is absolute, as it was always intended to be." Her eyes narrowed slightly as her face drifted up into a smirk, that lethal look slipping away into something a touch more motherly, though still tainted by shadowy remnants. "You always did see your clanmates as fellow felines versus a means to an end, though. And no amount of teaching can strip away the choice to see someone as a living breathing being over a pawn."

"Its your greatest strength and you greatest weakness" she retorted not backing off "You and I both know that power is an illusion, a fickle thing that can be there one moment and gone the next. You aren't afraid, but that is the problem. You go around, not caring who you have to kill or stomp on to get to the top, but it is going to catch up with you one day. All those that you have hurt are not going to just forgive you as easily as Glowstar" she stopped moving forward to nuzzle Foxbane's cheek
"Despite everything that you have done, I care for you. You took me in and raised me as your own, gave me a home and clan to call me own. All I want is to keep you safe Foxbane.. It's as simple as that. Not that you make it easy, but those kits do need to come back to SunClan. They can stay in DayClan part time a dual citizens, but they will need to have a SunClan mentor"

Foxbane flashed a grin, as though Littlestar's answer were a great compliment. "Oh, I'm sure it will. But I'm expecting it. Where's the fun in a predictable life, Littlestar? If I can't have my tyranny, may as well test out the other side of it for once." She gave a slight nod, however. "They'll come for visits, festivals, and the like, of course. And DayClan doesn't do one on one mentors anyhow, so I'm sure having their training in two places can only be an asset." It was about as much as she expected, and fine, she could deal with that. Not that DayClan would like it, but that hardly mattered.

"Very well they can stay in DayClan for now" she wasn't happy about it, but Foxbane had left her with few options without going to war with one of their only allies.
