Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Oh come on, 'fearless leader of Summerclan', you don't have any good stories from living in the twolegplace?" Littlecrest let out a good-natured chuckle as she stretched out on the soft grass, covered by the cool shade of the trees overhead as she conversed with Largelight, Mudthistle and Ratstar. The elder had spent most of the past few moons spending her time exclusively with her son and his mate, or coddling over her grandkits in the nursery, leaving her a bit out of the loop when it came to the newer, younger warriors in the clan, as well as their new leader. There was a playful gleam in her yellow-green eyes, slightly faded with age, as she glanced up at the tom. "What about how you lost that eye of yours? That has got to be a story worth telling~"
"Y-you don't actually have to tell us if you're uncomfortable," Largelight quickly chirped, her ears falling back awkwardly as she tried not to make the leader feel pressured. "Well yeah, that goes without saying," Mudthistle agreed, the brown-furred queen rolling her eyes before playfully nudging Ratstar's shoulder. "But that doesn't mean we're any less curious. You're quite the enigma, aren't you?"
"I wouldn't say that," Ratstar admitted, shuffling his paws sheepishly as he looked between the three she-cats. "It's just that those times were really hard on me, ain't much worth rememberin'. Besides, yous are lucky enough to not know how painful losin' an eye is." He paused for a moment, lost in his own memory of that event, before finally shaking it off with a nonchalant shrug. "Well...alright. Been waitin' ta brag 'bout how I sent the rogue scum runnin' for their mommies anyways. It all happened one fateful leaf-fall evenin', I was on the hunt for scraps in the silver boulders behind a group o' twoleg dens..."
Alabasterkit was laying on his back between Mudthistle and Littlecrest looking about as cute as any kit ever could. He had adjusted quickly - as all kits his age tend to do - to his new lifestyle in SummerClan and, because he lacked a mother, he tended to latch onto other cats. He especially liked Mudthistle since she was a queen and he was around her frequently. Perhaps of his connection to the brown-furred she-cat, he had warmed up to Littlecrest too, thinking on her with just as much affection as her very own grandkits did.
"Ratstar, fancy seeing you here! It must be fate!"
Alabasterkit blinked open his odd eyes as he heard Poppymask's shrill voice cut into Ratstar's story. He put his paws over his ears and failed to stifle a yawn. That was one cat he hadn't been able to bond with... he did hope she would quiet down soon...
Poppymask sashayed over to Ratstar's side and sat down with her standard dramatic flair. She was wearing an outrageous flower crown the was full of blooming flowers colored red, blue and yellow. It was a work of art to be sure. While the flame point she-cat lacked most basic skills she was a master when it came to flower arrangements, so she flaunted it at every chance she got, "What are you all talking about? It looks like you were telling a story, honeybuck. Please do continued. I love to listen to you." She was addressing Ratstar and pretty much ignoring everyone else. She had a dreamy lovesick look in her eyes, like she would eat SummerClan's leader right up if no one else was there.
"Ugh! Not her again!" Grasskit rolled his eyes dramatically from where he sat in-between his mother's front paws, sticking out his tongue at the irritating she-cat. Just when Ratstar was about to tell a cool story, too! Poppymask always yelled at him when he'd accidentally run through her flowers while playing; she was no fun at all! Hopefully she wouldn't be his mentor when he was made an apprentice...the kit was suddenly snapped out of his thoughts by a light bop on the head. "Hush, you!" Mudthistle scolded with a soft hiss, while attempting to fight the instinct to roll her own eyes at Poppymask's interruption.
"Hello, Poppymask!" Largelight greeted with a friendly chirp. "Care to join us? You can sit by me if you'd like." The fluffy cream-pelted feline patted the grass beside her with her tail, between herself and Littlecrest. The elder herself didn't say anything, merely giving the younger cat a polite smile, though there was a knowing, mirthful gleam in her eye.
Ratstar blinked in surprise as Poppymask's voice cut off the beginning of his story, though he couldn't hide a grin as he turned to see the newly-made warrior padding to join their small group. "Poppymask! Good t' see ya," he purred good-naturedly, the leader seeming completely oblivious to the kits' disdain. His single eye flickered up towards the gaudy flower-crown she was wearing, and his grin grew as he leaned in for a closer look. "Ya flower crown looks lovely," he remarked, giving the flowers a delicate sniff. "Anyways, I was 'bout to tell everybody how I lost my eye. Still don't entirely get why, but I s'pose it's a good story t' tell. Don' worry, I didn't get very far. I can start over fo' ya."
"No thank you, Largelight, I'm comfortable right here," She leaned into Ratstar's side, totally ignoring the groans of complaints from Grsskit, loosing a few petals from her crown as she did so. Alabasterkit couldn't help but bat at one as it fell just within reach of his paws, "Please start from the beginning! I've been oh so very curious to hear that story even since the day I first set eyes on you," Poppymask's bondi blue orbs shined bright as the ocean as she peered into Ratstar's one good one. For a she-cat so often fraudulent, she seemed genuinely curious at the moment, "I'm sure you were doing something incredibly brave!"
Largelight looked slightly surprised at Poppymask's reply, sending a confused glance over in Mudthistle's direction, though the Queen only rolled her eyes and shrugged. Grasskit, meanwhile, was already starting to get antsy at the pause in the story, and leaned over to bat at the same petal that Alabasterkit was playing with.
"I wouldn't call it 'brave' exactly, Ratstar admitted almost sheepishly, letting out a brief purr as Poppymask rested her head on his shoulder before turning back to his audience. "As I was sayin', it was mid leaf-fall back when I was 'bout mid-apprentice aged, and food was beginin' to run short in the twolegplace. As the weather gets colder, competition gets more and more fierce. At it's worth it's an absolute bloodbath. Gangs'll overrun any poor fleabag jus' tryin' to survive; sometimes followin' them until they find some food before layin' an ambush. Luckily, I was already smart enough t' watch my back, especially when the sun started settin'. I did m' best to be careful, an follow all the teachings my ol' pops taught me, but unfortunately all it takes is one slip-up for things to go horrifyingly wrong."
Alabasterkit batted the petal toward Grasskit, recognizing that there was quite a lot of fun to be had with this new toy and, given that he had just woken up from a nap, he had energy to burn, "Bet you can't bat it higher than me!"
Poppymask was annoyed that the kits were interupting Ratstar's story. Kits were supposed to love stories, why weren't they paying better attention? But after raising nerly a dozen of young ones herself, she let the anger go just as quickly as it had come, and instead turned her eyes lovingly back to Ratstar. Of course, most of the time he had been talking she had been thinking about how rude the kits were acting instead of listening to him, but she caught to tail end of the story, "I find it hard to believe you made a slip-up... are you sure you weren't set up? Oh, I'm getting ahead of you, I'm so sorry, please continue!"
