Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. Dawningpaw let out a short pained cry at the initial teeth of the wire curled deep into her leg. In the ground behind her was a stake nested deep into the earth to the point she almost missed it. Shaking slightly from the pain she turned in slow sudden movements to try and get to the stake. The silver wire was stiff as she turned, but when she attempted to approach the stake the wire curved and then bent jolting her leg out from under her. Dawningpaw collapsed to the ground on top of her leg letting out a yelp. Her breath was shuttered at the pain before gently readjusting her with a few grunts into a lying position. She rested her chin onto the ground hoping that SunClan would come looking for her soon, but she was much closer to NightClan.
She had been out on a walk looking for flowers along NightClan's borders. In SunClan she had seen just about every plantr specimen there was so she was hoping to find something new. Now she had wandered too far from home, she told no one where she was going and now it was already dark. The blood on her leg had caked over into a thick layer of crust, but the slightest movements made it bleed again. Her mistletoe eyes scanned the forest fearfully, predators would come out at this hour looking for an easy meal, no one had found her. Maybe no one even wanted to look for her because of who her parents were. Her mix of auburn agouti tabby and brown rosetted bengal fur helped her blend in a bit, but it wouldn't help forever...

Softpaw moved aimlessly through NightClan's territory under the light of a waning gibbous. His silver bengal fur shone pale blue from the moon's illumination, but he was small and his footfalls gentle enough not to immediately alert anyone that might be near. He wasn't paying attention to any of that though. All he wanted was to get some fresh air and put as much distance from him and the camp as he could for a while. Being trapped there and bullied was suffocating and he needed a break before he'd fall apart.
Suddenly freezing mid-step, Softpaw lifted his head and inhaled deeply. His nose twitched as a bitter iron scent crawled inside. Blood? The apprentice hesitated for a moment but followed the smell off his initial course. The further he went the stronger it became, and with it, the scent of another cat. Sinking lower to the ground, Softpaw began to worry. He shouldn't have even been out here by himself and now, he was seeking out an unfamiliar cat reeking of blood. Were they injured or... Softpaw shuddered, but his thoughts screeched to a halt as he reached a fern bush. Through the leaves, he saw a she-cat struggling on the ground. She grunted a few times and even yelped before she settled herself into a defeated prone position. She's trapped! The fur around his neck and tail bristled as he gulped down the brunt of his fear and slipped into the clearing. Discreetly, he inhaled again, but he couldn't place where she'd come from. He hadn't been exposed to other clan scents yet, but he knew she was an outsider. Softpaw stopped five tail-lengths away from her with his spotted tail swishing low behind him.
"What are you doing here?" he asked, trying to look and sound intimidating. However, his anxiety was winning the battle.
As hard as it was she was beginning to manage to drift in and out of sleep and welcomed it. If SunClan wasn't already out looking for her then they wouldn't be at all. There was no point in staying up listening for approaching paw steps if it wasn't going to happen. She was beginning to doze off when Softpaw approached. Dawningpaw lifted her head up, startled by the sudden voice. She had enough sense to not move her back legs as she did. She let out a relieved gasp, "Thank Sun God, someone's here. My name is Dawningpaw, I was walking along the border when my leg became caught in this hunters trap. I can't move enough to get the wooden end out, but maybe you can?"
She was happy to see that it was an apprentice that had found her and not a warrior. If it was a NightClan warrior they would help her, but make a big scene out of everything. Probably insisting on walking her back and chiding Littlestar for letting an apprentice get hurt. An apprentice at the very least might tease her, but at least could relate to her a bit more being around the same age. Plus she wanted to get out fast, she had already gotten sick and lost a moon in apprentice training, she didn't want to have to lose another moon because of a wound. Or worse, maybe they would rename her Weakpaw if she was found to not be fit to train a second time.
The tom in front of her did seem surprisingly anxious, she could hear it in his voice. Maybe it was from the countless tales of SunClan cats kidnapping kits or enslaving entire clans, but she remained hopeful that maybe he would help her out.

She looked and sounded exhausted, and her wound was concerning. Still, Softpaw was struggling with what to do. She had said "Sun God" which meant she was probably from SunClan and her story added up in his mind. He could free her, but something was prickling under his skin, warning him not to. She wasn't a kit. In fact, she might have been a moon or two older than himself. That worried him. If he were to help her, couldn't she attack him immediately after? Even with the wound, she could very well beat an untrained, declawed apprentice. And if she left peacefully, couldn't she attack him later? Clans fought one another and down the road, she could very well be his enemy. Wouldn't he be doing his clan a favor by leaving her here? Or was that wrong?
Softpaw crept forward, inspecting the trap's design. He'd never seen one before. The way the wire was digging into her leg, he felt that maybe he'd underestimated the wound. He cocked his head at the bengal and asked, "Why should I?" The words lacked any cruelty and instead sounded genuinely curious.
