Voidseeker wasn't one to stay up late of her own volition, but an apprentice had fallen ill and asked her to take her shift on the moonhigh patrol. Never one to say no, the newly named deputy had agreed. Despite waking up before the sun the day prior, the tabby she-cat moved silently through the swaying grass of the meadow, finally returning to camp from the patrol. Her tail drooped lower than it usually did, the only indication of her exhaustion, and she would have happily collapsed in her nest as soon as possible if she hadn't heard a strange sound from her left.
There shouldn't be anyone else in this part of the territory except me, she thought, the surprise at another cat's appearance shocking some life back into her. Turquoise eyes clear, she set off towards the sound, muscles tense.
