Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
It was especially hot out for Greenleaf, but Tinybreath didn't mind. She had been generous enough to collect some moss and soak them in water for traveling patrols and young apprentices training out in the heat. Still despite her efforts she was running low on supply of moss - it was about time to enlist in some help. The petite warrior glanced around camp and eagerly asked for help, but most cats were busy or simply wanted to weasel their way out of helping on such a hot day; probably preferring to take a dip in the river instead, not that she could blame them. Tinybreath looked about ready to give up and gazed up with squinted blue eyes at the sun. This heatwave probably wasn't going to stop anytime soon, and some of the younger kits were beginning to grow fussy. Someone had to be responsible around this place. With newfound determination, she singled out the next warrior she saw, and marched right up to them. "You're going to help me fetch some moss," she declared, the stern look on her face showing that there was absolutely no room for protest.
He was halfway through the bush that constituted the camp wall, clearing out the small nest he had made for himself when the she-cat approached him. SwiftClan cats didn't seem to care where they slept, some keeping organized dens while others laid out under the stars, and he had spent the night curled up tight below the branching bushes. He was nearly finished then, stepping back to examine his work, but when Tinybreath marched up he slowly turned to face her. He knew that voice, and it startled him, despite knowing she would be here. Wyverndelirium retreated from the bush and turned to look his sister in the eye with a nervous hint of a smile.
"Oh- of course," he agreed hastily, dipping his head. "Anything to help out."
She blinked in surprise, at a loss for words when her older brother turned to face her. Tinybreath had been so caught up in fetching herself a volunteer that she hadn't realized which cat she was walking up to. It was...different, seeing Wyverndelirium again after so many seasons of complete silence. The two of them had been so close once, though now the petite warrior felt like there was more sibling normalcy between her and Chim than with Wy. "O-oh! Sorry for snapping at you like that," she finally managed to meow, awkwardly shuffling her paws in the dirt. "I think the heat's finally starting to get to me." She managed a smile, and then turned with a gesture of her tail. "Let's quickly grab some moss for the kits, so we don't have to stay out in the sun any longer than we have to."
"Oh, it's okay," Wy reassured her quickly, dipping his head once more just to be safe. His fur was prickling with discomfort. Should he say something to her? Apologize for all those moons ago, admit how much he had missed her ever since? He watched her turn away from him, a little in a daze still. How he longed for the ease they had built up between them, back when it was Wy and Tinybreath against the world and their family. Chim had been nothing but an outcast then, a poor choice for deputy by all accounts. How had things changed so much?
He hurried after her, lagging a step behind. "I'm glad to be learning where the good moss spots are nearby. Maybe if we have extra I can get some for my nest."
Her usually confident steps faltered ever-so slightly at the mention of the nest. Right...Chim was letting Wy stay with them now. For how long, only Starclan knows. The she-cat could feel the knot in her stomach tighten at the thought, before quickly attempt to shake off that uncomfortable feeling. "Of course!" Tinybreath chirped while keeping her gaze locked forward. "I don't see why not; this area's pretty good for moss. It's a lovely territory. I hope we can start building a more permanent camp here soon..." Her voice trailed off as her mind drew up a blank in terms of keeping polite conversation. For a brief moment, the world was silent except for the distant echos of birdsong in the air.
He didn't notice her stumble, too busy staring around them in fascination. "This is a very nice territory," he agreed eagerly, sensing the awkwardness in the conversation and fighting to ignore it. "If we do build a new camp here, it will be a great opportunity. We can design it ourselves, choose how to layout the dens and the fresh-kill pile and build the walls and surroundings... nothing will be as safe as the cave, but even that wasn't safe in the end."
"I miss the old camp sometimes, it feels so...unnervingly quiet without the constant roar of water around." Tinybreath admitted in a quiet voice, a small smile crossing her muzzle at the memory. She felt herself slowly relax as she pictured the rocky cliffs and bubbling rivers, the long, wispy branches of a willow tree blowing in the wind... "How many moons has it been since Waterclan was destroyed? It feels like so long ago, but also like yesterday at the same time." She paused for a brief moment, before finally forcing herself to glance sideways over at her brother. "You weren't there when it happened, were you." It wasn't a question or an accusation, merely a statement of fact. Her voice was nearly a whisper when she said it, as if until that moment she hadn't realized Wy was already gone that day.
"It took me a while to get used to it," he admitted, "but I like this better. The waterfall was always competing with the voices in my head, and it's nice to have some quiet. It makes it easier to sleep when there's nothing to distract me." Living in FallClan had been a major adjustment for him. It was quiet and far from his family, but there was something reassuring about a fresh start. It hadn't been easy, especially when he kept wondering what happened to his clanmates, but he had worked through a lot in that time alone.
His steps slowed down as she went on, and his gaze unfocused as he stared at the ground before their paws. "No," he admitted, a lump in his throat. "Chim let me stay in the clan after he took over again, but it wasn't the same. I knew I had made a mistake and that nobody was going to forget it soon. That day, I was... I was..." Wy closed his eyes, then looked up at Tinybreath and met her gaze. "I was following Riverwolf's scent to see where it went. I thought maybe he would still accept me, wherever he went. But when I heard what happened, I knew I couldn't go through with it."
He had been pushed to the breaking point those days. As awful as the leader had been, there was a point when he was all Wy had left. If the clans hadn't been flooded, he shuddered to think where he might have ended up.
