Quick and daring, Shatteredshine was on the hunt, but not for prey. Today, she another victim in mind: a new friend! She vaulted over the rocks and into the makeshift camp, beaming as she glanced about for a grey tabby pelt. "Oh, Intrepidsoul," she sang, "ready to go hunting with me? You didn't forget that was today, did you?"

Padding over to Shatteredshine Intrepidsoul gave a kind smile to the she cat, "Oh don't worry I didn't forget. I was just saying a quick hello to the kits in the nursery before leaving. Question is are you ready for the hunt?" His voice was relaxed but playful, Intrepidsoul had gotten to know the she cat well enough to figure what she was like and so far he truly enjoyed her presence. So when she asked for him to join a hunt with her he couldn't pass it up. He wanted to get to know her more and felt they'd get along swimmingly.
"Am I ready? Am I ready?!" she cried indignantly. "Why, I was born ready! Are you sure you can keep up? I'm a little faster than those kittens." Prancing forward, she cuffed him over the ear and ducked away. She bounded away from the camp and flashed her exuberant smile back at him. Shatteredshine was looking forward to their hunt together; she liked to get to know all of the warriors, but it was even better when she had a clanmate as friendly as Intrepidsoul.

(Oh my god, I love her enthusiasm and energy 😊)
Slightly taken back, but not in a bad way Intrepidsoul tried to pump himself up more to match her energy. "Oh you bet I can match your pace...but question is can you catch up with me?" He got light on his paws and playfully ran out of the entrance, only pausing momentarily to see if she was following suit. This she cat was definitely going to be fun to hunt with and maybe he would learn a thing or two from her as well.
To her sheer delight, he broke into a run. Finally, a cat she could have some fun with! "Oh, you bet I can! I'm quick as a river," she promised, sprinting after him out of the camp. "You can't outrun me! Don't get too arrogant until you know what you're up against!"

With a deep rich laugh the tom continued his run curious to see if she was keeping face, and to his amusement she was indeed keeping equal pace to his. In truth he wouldn't be surprised if she out ran him but he sure would give his all. She didn't seem to be the kind of she cat that would like being let to win easy and he wasn't the kind of cat to do so. What a care free creature Shatteredshine was and it was refreshing to be with a feline that was so. Not that any of the cats were stuffy in camp, but rather none were as easy going as this she cat. Now who would win this small race of theirs? Secretly he bet his prey it would be her.
Shatteredshine was long-legged and tall, like her father, and just as sure-footed on land. Her mother's side had been WaterClan cats for generations, though, and she was built to be a powerful swimmer. She should be swifter in water than on land, but her training had been cut short, and she had never been as natural in the waves as she ought to be. That didn't stop her fluffy fur from weighing her down, though, and she was growing hot under her pelt as they raced on.
"How far are we going?" she puffed, her tail streaming behind her as she pushed herself harder.

Panting the tom saw a small body of water ahead. "How about to that area? Its got some water we can drink and looks like a purrfect hunting spot." Intrepidsoul had only been to this spot once but he had found it to be quite a relaxing place. Question was who would make it first? The tom felt as though he was losing steam fast and the she cat indeed was catching up to him.
Shatteredshine didn't waste breath on her reply. She pushed herself harder with a last surge of energy and didn't stop when she reached the water; instead, she flung herself immediately into the depths and dove under the water, letting the cool water chase away the warmth from her muscles. She floundered back to the surface and took a gasp of air, then flicked a scatter of water droplets toward him. "Who won? I missed it," she puffed. She had been focused on running, and they were nearly neck-and-neck.

The tom skidded to a halt, almost going head first into the water but stopping right at the shore lines. Gasping for breath Intrepidsoul gave a winded response. "You but just by a hair...that was definitely impressive I must say." With that he paused and then jumped into the waters below, feeling as the water splashed around him and the coolness wash over himself. The change of temperatures was shocking to the body but by no means unpleasant. The tom came up to the top for air as he allowed himself to easily float in the waters currents. "This has been the most fun I have had in a long time, you sure do know how to keep a feline on his toes," he spoke in an amused voice.
"Ha!" Shatteredshine found it difficult to enjoy her triumph when the water from his jump splashed right into her mouth. She sputtered and had to take a few more gulps of air before she recovered. By then he was floating on top of the water and she flipped about to face him.
"You've been running with the wrong cats. This is the clan of fun," she assured him, relaxing languidly in the shallow water. "Don't let my uncle tell you any different! Chim might be the leader, but he's the only boring one here."

"I guess I have been running with the wrong cats and I have to agree...the clan has been rather interesting since I joined," Intrepidsoul chuckled. To her other remark he gave her a curious gaze, grey eyes shining with deep interest. "He does seem to rather be the laid back type, and perhaps a nice run could help him. I can only imagine how stressful his job is as leader of the clan. Don't think I'd ever want a position like that myself. Does he ever get a chance to let loose like we do?"
Shatteredshine considered, and then she nodded. "Absolutely. I think he has plenty of time to himself, he just doesn't want to take advantage of it," she confided to him. "Someone tried to explain it to me once... said it was his penance, for the mistakes of his youth. He never rests or looks after himself. That's why he's so skinny and rundown." She couldn't understand the tom entirely, but she had a general idea of some of the pressures that he faced.

"Penance? What do you mean? We all make mistakes in our youth, but Chim shouldn't have to beat himself up over whatever it is...he definitely needs to have a friend help him before he runs himself into the ground. Both for his sake and the clan...I just hope he is careful." Intrepidsoul couldn't imagine what type of mistake the leader made but if anything the tom was a great leader and in his eyes already made up for whatever incident the leader went through.
"Besides running Shatteredshine, what else do you like to do for fun?" The tom didn't want to bring down the mood and just wanted to keep the fun times rolling for this moment.
"Try and tell him that," she answered with a twitch of her ear. "As a family, we've been telling him that for moons, but he never listens. All we can do now is try and keep him from beating himself up too much."
She was happy to change the subject. Her head tilted thoughtfully to the side. "Oh, lots of things! I used to collect flowers, back in SummerClan where lots of them were growing." She had been born in the clan and returned after the floods to live out most of her apprenticeship. "We would play games in the water, and sometimes the apprentices would all get together to play keep away."

She had lived in Summerclan? Very interesting, the cat thought to himself. "What kind of games did you guy play in the water? I ever knew of keep away and racing from one side of the water to the other." The more they talked the more Intrepidsoul found himself becoming more and more interested in this quirky but kind she cat.
Shatteredshine giggled, happy he was taking an interest. The childlike games might have embarrassed other cats, but she would have been happy to replay any of them. "SummerClan has a big lake instead of rivers," she explained, "and the other side belongs to SpringClan, so we couldn't go too far across! But sometimes we used to chase ducks on the beach and see how far we could follow them across the water before they escaped. Or we would see who could hold their breath the longest."

While holding his breath underwater didn't seem all that interesting to Intrepidsoul duck chasing did. "Never thought about chasing ducks, did you guys ever catch one?" Part of him wished to ask to try this, but was too worried his asking would seem childish. For the tom was always curious and had a keen open mind to wanting to do new thing. Learn new things. Intrepidsoul's only desire was to live life to its fullest and be happy with the choices he made (well most of them.)

"I never did," she admitted shamelessly, "but once I saw Ragingspire catch one! He was with a patrol, and they cornered it on land. It was really big and scary, but they took it down and dragged it all the way back to camp to eat. It tasted a little fishier than a normal bird," she mused.

Intrepidsoul's whiskers twitched in amusement, "Duck is one bird I've never had but I have had chicken and once almost had goose...well more like I was once almost goose feed. Never mess with geese as they will most definitely mess you up. I wasn't even trying to hunt one but got too close to one of their nests without realizing it." He had been very young then but maybe if it happened to him now perhaps Intrepidsoul would win one goose as a prize for the fresh kill pile...or maybe not.
