Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
After experiencing many deaths caused by a past medicine cat apprentice, Rainpaw, who began killing his patients, Fallclan decided to honor all those who died in his care by holding a grand festival where those who are old enough travel to the Burial Grounds to be closer to the ones who have left them and joined Starclan. It is often said that during this time the Starclan cats can be seen, offering words of comfort and compassion to those they were close with while alive. It is still unknown fully by the other clans if this it true because a vow of silence was set into place, making it so no Fallclan cat who participates in the festival can share it with those outside their home.
Feel free to bring in your Starclan cats! Kits are also welcome to join in.
Hystericstar had mixed feelings about Starclan. Before, he never believed in them, only believing in his own abilities and in what he could see. But recently, or more accurately, when he gained his nine lives, he didn't know what to think. So, after leading those able to travel to the Burial Grounds, he simply took a spot to sit, letting the others converse with their ancestors and friends if they so chose to. He would have no part in this. It was possible that what he saw was simply delusions; after all, he had once accidentally made the entire clan suffer mass hysteria and believe that the clan was haunted before. It would make sense.
If it were entirely his decision, he would skip this festival. Rather, it was up to him, but he had heard that this was a tradition, and he didn't have the energy to face the disagreements of skipping it. It was just one day, surely he could put up with it for a little while.
The Day of the Dead Festival - a day of remembrance and celebration for those that have passed away. It was a day Poisonrush had come to respect but not actually enjoy. It was hard for him to do that. He hadn't lost anyone close to him and everyone before him, he had no connection to. Of course there were his parents but he celebrated them every day through his vigorous training sessions as they once were his teacher as a kit. What better way to honor them than to live up to the expectations they had set for him? Besides, there was word that there would be some sort of competitive events being hosted. Glancing around the Burial Grounds, he took in all of the cats who attended and how they were enjoying the festival so far, especially Hystericstar, who was sitting by himself. He seemed reluctant to come, which was understandable. Taking this time as an opportunity to discuss some things with the new leader, he approached him.
Eerie golden eyes took in the clan, coming to a rest on the approaching figure of Poisonrush. Hystericstar nodded his head in acknowledgement, but said nothing. The hairless tom was still not used to his new role, nor had he even felt comfortable as a deputy. He longed for the quiet days where he hid in the medicine cat den, being ignored by everyone, including his own apprentice. This was too much, too fast, even though he should have had time to settle in. It was just out of his comfort zone.
"You don't seem to be enjoying yourself, Hystericpl-...Hystericstar," Poisonrush corrected himself as he got closer to the other tom. He had seen that look from other cats many times before. He slightly dipped his head in respect before sitting down next to him and looked out at the crowd. "What seems to be the matter?" Even as Deputy, he must not enjoyed it, which called into question why he went for the position to begin with but that time had since passed. He could understand, though, the sudden change in position and how it would affect him but Hystericstar will have to roll with it. It was a good look for him to attend the festival instead of delegating it to the Aurulent or other warriors.
The name sounded foreign to Hystericstar, and it took all of his restraint to not cringe at it. Yes, this was definitely something that he was going to struggle with getting used to. He turned his gaze back to the clan, taking a moment to observe them before forming his answer. It seemed he wasn't too good at hiding his distaste of the situation, if Poisonrush was so quick to pick up on it, but then again, he doubted he was even really trying. "You know me, I'm just not a big fan of crowds," he replied with a small one-shoulder shrug. "Or celebrations, for that matter." He doubted that the aurulent would buy his answer, but it wasn't a falsity. Just not the entire truth.
Poisonrush grunted once in response. That sounded like a cop-out answer but he didn't want to press the matter too much, all things considered. He sat in silence before his memory reminded him of an event that was going to happen later on during the festival. "Ah, Hystericstar, there was supposed to be a game - Capture the Flag, right? How is that supposed to work?" he asked.

Palestep carried a mouthful of lilacs as she followed the solemn procession leading from their camp to the Burial Ground. Countless generations of cats lay at rest in the dark soil of that clearing, noted by small piles of stones and trinkets left by those surviving them. Still, it always made Palestep sad to see how many lives had come before her and were now either barely remember or entirely forgotten. Would she be forgotten too? Mourned by none and only thought of when an apprentice was forced to clean her grave? Her thoughts had turned morbid and her expression grew dark as she paused next to an old grave. Shiningstar, it read, but the she-cat knew nothing of the leader who must have been alive generations ago. "I'm sorry we've forgotten all of you," she murmured, placing the flowers on the grave.
Hollypool ushered her kits to the burial grounds. They were finally old enough to make the walk, though there had been many breaks involved. Now she led Mosskit and Mintkit to the stones where their ancestors resided. Hollypool no longer had family alive in FallClan, but that was okay. Her line was being carried on in the two she-kits beside her. She gently ran her tail down Mosskit's back and licked at Mintkit's ear, the latter shying away from her mother's embarrassing attention. "Can I explore mother, please?" Mintkit asked, eyes bright with interest at this new place. Hollypool paused before answering. She didn't want her kits to be disrespectful by getting in the ways of others, so she agreed with a warning. "Yes, but absolutely no running or disturbing other cats here. We must be respectful of the dead." Mintkit and Mosskit agreed and walked off - albeit quickly - to hopefully not get into any trouble.
The fluffy silver she-cat padded gently up to Palestep, watching as she said something and placed flowers on a grave. "This place always makes me feel so small," Hollypool commented quietly, trying to keep her voice from carrying in this hallowed place. eventide

Palestep lifted her head when she heard another cat approach, squinting to make out Hollypool's figure standing nearby. "I know," she nodded, raising her milky pale eyes to the other warrior. "The air is heavier here, as though the weight of time presses down on everything in this clearing." She watched as Hollypool's kits scampered off, the ghost of a smile appearing on her face. "But the youngest generation doesn't seem to feel it, which is good. After all, they're the ones that will bring about the future of the clan." She looked down at the grave she stood next to again, feeling immeasurably small next to their hallowed dead.
"Do you have any family buried here?" she asked, finally forcing herself back into the moment and pulling back from the existential dread crawling up her back. "I'm so glad FallClan has this area. It makes it easier to know that your loved ones aren't gone forever, and to have a place to visit them from time to time."
It was a relief when Poisonrush didn't push him for a real answer, as Hystericstar wasn't likely to explain any further. As he watched the clan - his clan, it seemed - the weight on his shoulders doubled. At least he had the aurulents to help him with everything, but this leadership was definitely going to take a lot out of him. When Poisonrush spoke again, it startled the new leader, and he let out a few coughs before replying, "Ah yeah, I probably should have mentioned that to you earlier. I want each of the aurulents to lead a team, with four teams in total. There'll be a stick hidden on each side of the field that everyone will fight over and attempt to bring it over to their side. I don't wanna repeat myself again later, so I'll go into specifics when it gets closer to the game time." It wasn't a game that he was really looking forward to, and it only existed because some other cats were bugging him about games for the festival.
Poisonrush nodded once and stood up. "Understood. Well, until then, I shall leave you to your brooding," he said as he looked out towards the gathering. Slightly dipping his head, he took his leave and headed off toward the crowd.
Brooding? Hystericstar was about to open his mouth to argue, but quickly closed it. No, no. That was fair. He kinda was brooding, wasn't he? Lifting his shoulders in a shrug, he went right back to watching the rest of the clan. So far, it didn't seem like any Starclan cats had showed up, and he doubted they would. There was no way they existed. It was just hallucinations. It had to be.

lavellan "Hystericstar?" Palestep allowed Hollypool to watch over her kits and took the opportunity to walk over to the leader who looked incredibly alone despite being surrounded by living and dead FallClan cats. Her milky blue eyes seemed to look beyond him, but her small, comforting smile was clearly meant for him. "I hope you don't mind if I join you here? If so, I can go help Poisonrush set things up for the kits later." Her voice was hushed, more like a cool breeze than a ray of sunlight.
Hollypool had been about to reply to the other she-cat when her kits came running by - exactly what she had told them not to do. She gave Palestep an apologetic look before turning to chastize them, but it took longer than expected and when she had turned around, Palestep was gone. Hollypool shrugged and continued looking at the rocks.

cookie Hollypool wasn't alone after Palestep's disappearance for long. A she-cat cloaked in golden fur approached from behind Hollypool, emerald eyes glimmering with laughter as she watched the kits frolic around the Burial Grounds. "Kits never seem to follow your orders, do they?" she asked with the tone of one who understood the plight herself. "StarClan knows mine never did learn to listen to me, even after they were grown." Despite this, there was clearly love in her voice as she spoke. She seemed to almost glow in the light, her pelt radiating its own glimmer via the bright flecks of starlight that seemed caught in it. "You're Hollypool, right?" she asked, gaze roving almost longingly around the clearing full of FallClan cats.
Once again, Hystericstar was snapped out of his thoughts about Starclan by a clanmate, and the weird sound of his new name, but his annoyance almost seemed to fade away when he his gaze settled on Palestep. She was one of the few cats whose company he didn't mind, and so he swept his tail next to him, motioning for her to sit, though he wasn't sure if she even saw the action. "Go right ahead," he replied, giving another shrug. It seemed like she was always the one who tended to sit with him during any sort of gathering or festivity the clan held. Hadn't she been afraid of him at one point, though?

She heard the dry sound of his tail sweeping across the ground and accepted his invitation, wrapping her own tail around her paws. She couldn't help but glance over at his face, her own sight impediment turning the somewhat strange visage into something entirely frightening, but his voice was still kind. She settled in next to him and watched as the blurry forms of kits chased each other through the serene clearing, content to let silence rest between them.
"You don't have any family buried here, do you?" She looked over at her own parents' graves with a small, sad frown. Though it had been seasons since their passing, time didn't always make it much easier. "I do, but I don't mind it so much knowing I can visit them like this whenever I want, and that they're safe in StarClan now. I appreciate you holding this gathering, by the way. It really means a lot."
Hollypool hadn't seen this she-cat before. She was beautiful. "They never do," she said, a little amusement in her voice. "Though I can't say I ever did as a kit either." The queen couldn't tear her eyes away from the glimmering cat in front of her. Hollypool thought she was lovely. "And yes, that's me. But forgive me, I don't know your name..?" eventide

"Shining-...hope," she replied with a slightly mischievous grin, "Though I don't expect you to know me. I'm not very social anymore, so I tend to keep to myself." She playfully poked at one of Hollypool's kits as they ran past, eliciting a cascade of giggles before she turned back to the queen. "I suppose that's the way of things," she mewed, referring to Hollypool's previous statement. "Kits don't listen and queens grow more and more exasperated. I don't think I'd want it any other way, though." She sat down, the movement causing the stars on her pelt to glow brighter for a moment.
"Forgive me-" Hollypool began, mesmerized by Shininghope's fur. She had stopped even paying attention to her kits and only stared at the stars. "But why haven't I seen you before?" The queen tuned out the noises around her and came back to herself only when Mintkit rushed back to the other she-cat, attempting to attack her tail.
