Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
There was a new kit in the nursery, she was white as January snow with kittypet features. Her fur was velvety smooth like cream and her face was circular and plump. Tied around her neck was a pink bow larger than her own head with a shiny golden bell fastened around the center of the ribbon. She introduced herself as Sprinkles and chose the name Buttercupkit, however for anyone who knew enough about the hungry league cannibal it was undeniably the proxy of Primal Instinct, Innocentia. She was tiny enough to blend in with kits and because much of SwiftClan were made up of rogues or those who never even met Primal Instinct she had been unidentified.
Innocentia sat in camp, licking the pink bean shapes of her paw. Her yellow gaze hooked onto Chimerastar almost immediately, "Pretty nifty place you got, mister," She said, her British accented voice high and childish.
His daughter had told him about the new kit, though he had ignored the news; they were getting new cats all the time, and it only followed that some of them would be annoying kittens. It was strange that she showed up alone, but not strange enough he had given it a second thought, and he was well on his way to forgetting her existence entirely before he saw the little cat watching him as he crossed the camp. Chim paused, turning to watch her carefully with his good eye. He didn't recognize her right away, but he had a nagging feeling he should know her, and her name was trapped on the tip of his tongue.
"It's a work in progress," he replied, casting a glance around the camp. They were still building, though they had made great progress and the dens were all complete. "We'll see how long it lasts."
"Wowie!" Innocentia exclaimed, "I have to imagine it's hard work making a new clan. I bet someday's it would be easier if you just had a wittle more help, huh?"
For the happy go lucky kit she was she never once smiled with her teeth, always a simple curl of her lip. Even talking to him she made sure he wouldn't catch sight of her fangs, angling herself enough where they wouldn't be noticeable and if they were she never smiled widely while talking so he wouldn't catch the rows of the in the back. When she first heard wind of SwiftClan she felt a sense of pride knowing that a clan that was destroyed managed to rebuild. Chimerastar had been in WaterClan and now it felt like that culture even if it was a glimpse of it still lived on here. Her mother could only tell her stories of her ancestors in RubyClan, there was no one like Chimerastar to rebuild. Still though, looking at all of these cats, some of them ex WaterClan was making her mouth water. There was nothing quite like the taste of seafood.
"We've had a little more help. Cats come and go all the time. They make a small difference, not enough to sway things either way. We need a lot more help," Chim responded grimly. He was doing his best to keep his clan on its feet and the cats happy, but it was difficult to work. They were better fed than a moon ago, they had a fresh new land, new dens, and alliances, but Chim couldn't share his clan's optimism. They were still struggling and it was sheer luck that kept them from getting into a fight thus far. There was no way his clan would defend themselves right now when they could barely care for themselves.
"A lotta help huh? Hey! I bet I can help you out, where I come from has lots and LOTS of helpful cats! They would love to help you if I told them to. They're even called hunters so they'd be great for getting you chow!" Innocentia said, her childish voice reaching whole new pitches, "I mean come on, after all you did say you could use some help. They can't be more grumpy than the cats you already got," She said innocently, her paw pressing up into her cheek in a cutesy poise.
Hunters? He knew that name. Chim took an automatic step back, his eye narrowing. "No way. I'm not going to ask the Nemesis for help," he insisted darkly. Funk had never been unkind to him, other than a few lies here and there, but he was not about to swallow his dignity and ask him for help. He would never hear the end of it, and he was not nearly desperate enough to involve him. He studied her more carefully now, not ignorant to her word choice. Why would they listen to a kit? But no, he was beginning to remember the tales now of the violent kittypet among their ranks.
"What if you didn't haf'tah get Funky's help. I can be a super duper great friend to have!" She exclaimed, puffing out her chest as though she were showing off... Strength? "Right now I'm in charge of Primal Instinct for a whole week and I'm mister Funk E'tan's favorite proxy! I can help you a whole bunch and even after I'm done I kin still help you! So c'mon, you can trust me mister Chimerastar." She smiled brightly, but a shadow cast over her face, her voice lowering just a bit, "Jus' promise me that any intruders found on your land belong to the league."
Chim cocked his head, interested despite himself. Any offer that didn't involve the Nemesis was immediately more engaging to him, even if it was playing a dangerous game to step around him and work with this fluffy, innocent-looking demon. He knew better than to make a deal with the devil, it always cost your soul, but was that really such a bad price to pay? Chim had little of value left to offer, and giving her intruders in his land was temptingly easy.
"We don't mark borders here, so we barely own land. But I suppose any cat that doesn't join can be sent your way... depending on exactly what you have to offer us." His clan wouldn't like that he was even considering the deal, but it wasn't their choice. When they were leader, they would understand. He did what was necessary to keep his clan around long enough to outlive him.
"Mmm," Innocentia replied with intrigue, "I could owe you a favor and you can hold onto that favor for as long as you live... Or we could make this interesting. I give you whatever you want, but you have to ask me it now. The catch is that someone you don't know will die. So someone you don't know will die and after you get exactly what you wanted and that's all there is to it. So what do you say dandy? Which sounds the most appealing to you? You sending poor saps to me in exchange for a favor you can cash anytime. Or you getting whatever you want now and only one person dying, someone you don't even know."
Her offer was tempting. One cat would die instead of many, someone that meant nothing to him, and he could have whatever he wanted. But if he was going to risk his neck on this deal, he needed to make sure it paid off, and there was nothing he required right now. He could save a favor for when his clan needed it most... or if he ever needed the help himself. She would be a powerful ally to keep around, just in case.
"I'll take the favor," Chim responded, looking up at her. "I'll bring you the cats you require myself."
"Alright, free food for life!" Innocentia chirped, "Just let me know whenever you want to cash in that favor of yours," She winked, "I'll let the boys back home know to play nice with all of you."
