Decimus-tyke giggled as he swatted at his mother's tail. The young tom had been bored for the longest time since the bats kept them from straying too far from their mother. All of that pent up energy had to go somewhere and so Diana had finally sent him and his brothers away from the nest to play. Of course she was still nearby which made her a great target for his hunting game. Soon however, one of his brothers caught his attention. He left his mother's tail be and turned to prowl towards the other tom. He wiggled his haunches and then leaped, aiming to land on his brother's back.
Quartus-tyke had been laying down in the spot he'd just recently discovered in Post Kilo. It was perfect. Small outcroppings of rocks and pebbles were neatly stacked against the cave wall and the shaggy-furred tom as now curled up atop one of the flattened surfaces of one of the rocks. He wasn't sleeping, but he ws observing the others from his little perch. His pale green eyes eyeing his brothers from where his head lay resting on his front paws, the tip of his tail slowly twitching to an unknown rhythm. He'd gone from his peacefully warm nest up to the rocky perch when his mother had sent him and his restless siblings away.
"Who's bored and ready to play?" Scout Hurricane asked brightly after he set down a frog by his paws. He'd planned on bringing the prey with him to the camp alive, but it had been too hard to hold onto, so he ended up having to kill it in order to transport it. But they could still play with it, he thought it would be fun for them and a good learning experience for when they grew up to hunt like their parents.
"Gotcha! Decimus-tyke landed on Septimus-tyke, a playful grin on his face. The little tom almost lost his balance however and ended up digging his claws into his brother's back in an attempt to keep from falling. He then spotted his father and jumped off of Septimus-tyke to hurry over to him. "What did you bring us?" He sniffed the frog. "What is it?"
"It's a frog. You can hunt it down and try and kill it," he told him brightly. "Once you're done, you can kill it, or hide it in your nest. I bet your mother would be very surprised," he laughed.
Upon their father's entry, Quartus-tyke had raised his head slightly in a slowly growing interest at what he could have brought them. As Decimus-tyke pounced on their brother before promptly leaving him, Quartus-tyke had given a slow snort before he'd turned his attention back to their father. His attention still on him as he rested his paws back on his head content with watching from afar, for now.
"He most certainly will not be putting a frog in the nest." Diana had given Hurricane a sharp glance as she said this. Decimus-tyke had looked back at her with a slight frown. It had seemed like a fun idea, but he really didn't want to get in trouble. He had never liked sitting through his mother's lectures. Instead, he took to sniffing at the frog, wandering what would happen if he were to toss it at one of his brothers.
Quartus-tyke had been silently observing but at his mother's sharp tone his eyes snapped between his parent's as if gauging their reactions, curious to see what would happen. His sharp eyes then turned to look down at his siblings the corners of his mouth turning down a fraction. He'd huffed softly to himself before he'd slid down off his perch and padded towards his family. Hoping his closer presence would help keep his siblings out of trouble, and stop their parent's, more so their mother, from potentially scolding them further.
Hurricane looked up with an affectionate grin at his mate. "Oh come on, your face would have been adorable," he teased, sidling over to flick her on the whiskers with his tail. "Well, you heard her, lads: don't put it in your mother's nest. Find a Raiser and leave it in their nest instead!"
"Huh...huzz-it...?" Exhausted from the screeching of bats keeping him awake at all hours of the time, Primus-tyke had taken this peaceful opportunity to curl up and take a much needed nap. Luckily he was more used to the sounds of his brothers playing than the high-pitched calls of flying rodents, so he had fallen into a pretty deep slumber curled up by Diana's back. It was the shifting of his mother upon Hurricane's appearance that shook him awake, and the black-furred tyke lazily peaked out around his siblings to see what his father had brought them. "Oh...is that a frog?" He chirped, shaking himself to be more alert. "I wanna practice my hunting moves with it!"
Diana rolled her eyes, shooting a glare at Hurricane. She would have to keep an eye on the boys for a bit just to make sure they didn't try any pranks. They were supposed to be raising soldiers, not delinquents after all. Her attention was quickly caught by Primus-tyke when he mentioned practicing his hunting moves however and she gave her son an approving nod. It seemed like at least one of the boys had an interest in hunting which did excite her. She loved her sons equally of course, but she still liked the idea of at least one of them following in her footsteps.
"How can we put a frog in their nest without getting caught though? Everytime we try something, Mama or Raiser Venus catch us and then we get in trouble." It was nearly impossible to get past his mother and his aunt when they worked together. It made things interesting sometimes though since it meant that he had to work extra hard to try to outsmart them.
Quartus-tyke softly snorted as he walked over to the frog his family had been arguing over. His long ears flicking as he stared at the strange thing that smelled so odd that it caused his nose to wrinkle. His green gaze turned to look at Primus-tyke then to Decimus-tyke before his gaze returned to the frog once again. After a moment of thought, he finally spoke his gaze still trained on the frog, "Why not play hide n' seek with it. Someone hides it and the others gotta find it."
Noticing his mother nod approvingly, Primus-tyke sat up a little straighter in spite of his drowsiness; his eyes lighting up with pride. Though he turned his head when Quartus-tyke spoke up, and he found himself actually liking the suggestion more than his own. Their father had only brought one frog; the four of them would have to agree on what to do with it anyway. "Hide n' seek sounds interesting too," he chirped, growing somewhat excited at the thought of competing with his brothers. "We can practice tracking scents and stalking prey. It's a fun idea."
Quartus-tyke had inwardly rolled his eyes as his brother turned the fun little game into a way to practice hunting skills. He gave a little huff but said nothing. His whiskers twitched as he waited in silence. The kit's sharp gaze turning to see what his other family members thought of his suggestion.
"Hide and seek sounds fun. Do you think it would be worth eating afterwards?" Decimus-tyke had never eaten a frog so he wasn't sure if they were even edible, but the young tom did love to eat so he would try it if his mother would allow him to, but as soon as he said that, Diana shook her head. "Frogs are definitely not worth eating. If you're hungry then I'll collect something from Post Echo, but you will not eat that frog." Her tone was strict which made Decimus-tyke sigh. She always seemed to take the fun out of everything. Maybe he could at least get a taste of it when she wasn't looking.
