Dapplekit and Pebblekit rolled around outside the nursery, play-fighting. Dapplekit pinned her brother easily, taking full advantage of his bad eyesight. As he mewled for mercy, she leaped off of him raced around him in circles, declaring herself the winner. "You're so bad at this," she mewled, making fun of him. "How come you can never win?" Pebblekit laid there in defeat as his sister crowed. While she was busy gloating, he quietly rolled right-way up and crouched low, pouncing on her when she wasn't paying attention. He pinned her and snarled, "Who's the loser now?" Dapplekit shook him off and scampered further away, licking her chest in angry embarrassment, only looking up when she sensed another cat.

The Lady
Scarletkit watched the two wrestling kits with disdain. For a kit, she always acted rather proper and girly, and the thought of rolling around in the dirt a messing up her immaculately groomed fur was rather disturbing to her. Yet despite her misgivings, she forced herself not to show her disgust. She was a lady, the daughter of the Soothsayer and Lovesmitten. She wouldn't lower herself to their level.
Dapplekit caught sight of Scarletkit watching her. There was an unreadable expression on the other she-kit's face, and Dapplekit threw her brother a resentful look as she bounded over to Scarletkit. There were small bits of debris stuck in her fur from her tussle, but she didn't notice. "Hi," Dapplekit meowed, relieved that she could talk to someone else instead of her brother. Pebblekit recognized that his sister was no longer interested in him, and he sulked off.

"Greetings" she replied in turn, trying not to flinch away as the filthy she-cat approached her. At least the tom has sulked off, it wasn't proper for a lady to be speaking with a tom without her father present. She usually stayed close at his side, but ever since Autumngossamer had given birth to her own litter, she and her siblings were forced to share their attention with their younger siblings. After all they were only adopted, where as the newest litter was their biological children.
Dapplekit circled the other she-kit, eyeing her. Scarletkit was very stiff. "Don't you ever practice fighting?" Dapplekit inquired, curious as to why she hadn't joined in the scuffle. Maybe she was uninterested in practicing her skills, or maybe she just didn't like them. Dapplekit stopped moving and sat in front of Scarletkit, head cocked to the side.

She blinked "I just groomed my coat and applied my paint. I'm not going to ruin it for such a frivolous affair"honestly she had only recently learned the word frivolous from listening to her mother talk with a patient, but she enjoyed the way it made her sound smarter. Even sitting their, she was the image of proper grace. Her spine straight, ears perked, and tail neatly wrapped around her paws to keep it off of the ground.
Dapplekit considered this for a moment. It made sense that she didn't want to mess her paint up. Shrugging, the she-kit stood back up to go practice further away from Scarletkit, but she was held back by the rest of Scarletkit's statement. There was something in her tone that Dapplekit didn't appreciate, and she whipped her dappled brown head back around to face the other kit. "Wait," she said, voice low and a bit defensive. "I don't know what frivolous means, but I get the feeling that you don't respect what I'm doing."
"It means she's too prissy to get her paws dirty" came the relaxed voice of Hornetkit nearby. He lifted a paw and licked it before swiping it over one ear. "Little Miss princess here doesn't think she should know how to defend herself. She'd rather look like a well groomed kitty-pet than a hard working warrior."
As another voice cut in, Dapplekit turned to see who it belonged to. Her fur settled as Hornetkit continued speaking. There was no need to get it all ruffled if that was the case. Dapplekit side-eyed Scarletkit before moving closer to the other. "At least someone gets it," she mumbled, plopping down and sighing. "It's not like I'm playing around for fun. This is serious business."
"Oh yeah, very serious." He responded with a bored expression and sarcasm ringing in his tone. Frankly, he didn't really care. He just happened to over hear their conversation but perhaps speaking was a bad idea because now he was stuck here with a rambling she-kit. What is it with females being super chatty?
Dapplekit felt herself get irritated again by the tone in Hornetkit's voice. All of the kits were getting under her pelt today. She retorted sharply, "You'll think it's serious when you find yourself losing in a fight." Dapplekit used her harshness as a protective blanket. She'd acquired the trait from her mother. Even though she'd just sat down, the dappled kit hopped back up and stalked further away to put some space between them. Wasn't there any cat around here with the same mindset as her?
Hornetkit was surprised by her outburst. No one stood up to him. He was the grouch of the nursery, had no friends, and everyone seemed afraid of him despite his handsome features. He was rather impressed and a crooked smile pulled upward on one side. "Alright, Pepperkit. Why don't you show me what you got?" He challenged with a smirk.
Dapplekit looked back at her denmate. Her brown tail lashed aggressively. "Bring it on, Homelykit." She was still small and young - very inexperienced - but had one talent already shining through: speed. The older she got, the more experience she would have learning how to use it to her advantage. For now though, she used it carelessly the only way she knew how: charging full speed for better or for worse.
Dapplekit launched herself at Hornetkit as quick as she could, hoping the quick action would give her an advantage. After that, she knew she would lose pretty easily. But by the Sun God she would stand up for herself against this rude kit no matter the consequence.
Homelykit? What kind of insulting name was that? No matter, this scuffle will show this big headed female that she's just an average kit. Hornetkit didn't make a move. He let Dapplekit run toward him. He even let her tackle him. However, he had an apprentice show him a really cool move that would surely impress Dapplekit. As she barreled into him, he used her momentum to roll with her until he was on top, pinning her to the ground. "Oof. Tough luck. Or, rather, no skill." He gave an eye roll as he backed off of her.
Dapplekit let herself pout for a moment as she laid there before she rolled over onto her feet, shaking to knock some dust out of her fur. "No skill for now," she said, begrudgingly admitting her easy defeat. "But when we're apprentices, I want a rematch!"
She licked at the fur on her chest, thinking for a moment. The she-kit didn't want Hornetkit to get a big ego, but she also didn't like him knowing fighting moves that she didn't. Dapplekit stopped cleaning her fur and stared him dead in the eye. "Hornetkit," she emphasized his name this time to show the tiniest bit of respect, hoping he would agree to help her even though they'd scuffled. "Would you show me what I did wrong and help me learn what you just did?" Maybe it should have embarrassed her to ask him for help, but she wanted to be good at fighting more than she cared about pride. Dapplekit held her breath awaiting his answer.
Scarletkit watch with a rather unimpressed expression on her face. At the insult she simply tilted her head upwards "Call it what you will" in this world there were two types of cats. The masters and the servants, these two clearly being the latter. She would not engage in something so undignified, especially with a boy! As the two engaged in their mock battle she felt her face flush, wasn't Dapplekit worried about her reputation at all?
Hornetkit's blue eyes rested on Scarletkit. The sandy tom let out a scoff. Unbelievable. "Oh please, your highness. It's cats like you that are the weak link of the clan. Cats like us are the ones that gotta save your well polished butts when you get stuck in a dangerous situation."
Then his pretty blue eyes flicked to Dapplekit. "As for you, Pepperkit, give me a good reason why I should waste my time showing you anything." To be honest, he was all talk. He really didn't know very many moves and didn't know how he would teach Dapplekit moves he doesn't know about. Perhaps he could keep asking the same apprentice that showed him that move to show him some more. That is, if Dapplekit could come up with a good enough reason to take time out of his carefree life to learn new moves to teach her.
"My name isn't Pepperkit," the she-kit said hotly before reigning in her temper. "And anyway, if you think it's a waste of time to show me how to fight, then just don't. I would have expected you'd want all future warriors to be trained well. Nevermind." Dapplekit was frustrated with the tom. First he antagonized her and tried to ruffle her fur by calling her Pepper. Then he refused to share his knowledge with her why? Because she had bothered to fight back? It was childish, and Dapplekit didn't want to waste her time on Hornetkit anymore.
She threw a glance Scarletkit's direction. "Oh, and by the way -I think Scarletkit could make a good warrior one day if she wanted to. Just because she's a little stuck up doesn't mean she's weak. She's still got claws as far as I know." Dapplekit didn't know why she felt like sticking up for the other she-kit. She'd been insulted by her. But Hornetkit was under her skin and she felt a need to pick sides against him.

"Weak link" she rolled her eyes "without cats like me, boneheads like you couldn't find their way out of a foxden" she scoffed, but was grateful for Dapplekit's support even if they had been fighting only moments before "Just because I CHOOSE not to dirty myself with such frivolous things doesn't make me weak. It means I am able to discern what is important from meaningless banter"
Hornetkit scoffed again. "Yeah right. You wouldn't even step paw into a foxden for the mere fact that a foxden is a hole in the ground. Which means it contains dirt, duh! Plus, just because I'd rather practice my battling techniques doesn't mean I'm stupid." His blue eyes narrowed at Scarletkit before turning back to Dapplekit. "Well, your rather hot headed. I just thought Pepperkit suited you well." He shrugged, still preferring to call her Pepperkit. She was hot headed and spicy like a pepper.
