Turbulentsea
NightClan Medicine Cat
The Conflicted
Confusion filled his mind, as his body's supply of oxygen was beginning to get cut off. He stumbled backwards, unable to think very clearly as his claws dug in near his wind pipe. He collapsed to the ground just as the cats arrived to help Creampuff. His skin felt like it was on fire, red hives beginning to spread across his skin, clearly visible under the thin layer of fur that coated his body. It seemed to be spreading from the patches of pink and red that dotted his coat at an alarming pace.
He could hear the voiced of cats around him even though they sounded more like muffled murmuring than words that he could understand. Realization began to set in that this was probably going to be it for him. This was going to be the day that he died. Even if Ahava got here on time, she hadn't been trained to deal with this. It had only come up in one of their training sessions. He had mentioned which herbs would be useful in such situations, but not how to use them. Perhaps she would be able to piece it together with knowledge she had gained from other training, but it was a big leap in logic.
As soon as the thought faded, he realized he couldn't even hear the quiet murmuring any longer, nor could he see anything but darkness. His mind running slower and slower, each thought becoming harder than the last
Creampuff gasped as her throat loosened up. She inhaled short shallow breaths, the panic nearly knocking her unconscious. She had never felt such a sense of dread before, even in battle she had no fear of death. StarClan would always be there for her even in her final moments. However choking was nothing short, she had felt her senses heighten to their full capaticity before weakening little by little. This was a slow death, enough to soak in everyone's panicked expressions. Her eyes had been tearing up so much from the pain that she could hardly see anyone at the end. But when she felt Turbulentseas by her she felt confident she was going to live and she had.
But now as her breaths became stronger she felt his absence from her side, instead Flamingstar was there. "Mom," Creampuff whimpered before burying her head into her chest. Everything for a moment felt better before she took a look around and saw Turbulentseas. "No," She whispered and for a moment she couldn't ask, didn't want to know, but hesitantly asked, her words wobbly, "Is he going to be okay?" Because he had to be okay, that was her hero on the ground.
Flamingstar was surprised when Creampuff buried her nose into her chest. Relief flooded over the Nightclan leader as she wrapped her tail around her daughter, holding her tight, grateful that she was unharmed. Flamingstar was enjoying the moment when her adopted daughter suddenly pulled away and ran to Turbulentsea's side. Her heart ached for Creampuff. She knew her daughter had feelings for the medicine cat. This must be hard on her. The ginger leader wrapped a paw around Creampuff and gently guided her back for the medicine cat apprentice to do what she could to save their medicine cat. "Give them space, Creampuff" Flamingstar spoke, her voice soft and full of understanding which was unusual for her. She wanted to comfort Creampuff but she didn't know if Turbulentsea was going to pull out of this. How awful it must be for Creampuff to watch the tom she loved die before her eyes. If only Flamingstar could distract her or protect her from the hurt but there was nothing she could do to make things better or make this any less painful for her. For once, the Nightclan leader felt completely and utterly helpless.
Squirrelleap looked on worriedly his eyes narrowing in confusion. He too was confused, it had gone from Creampuff having a problem to suddenly Turbulentsea having one while Creampuff suddenly... shook it off?
He was no medicine cat so he shook it off glancing at the other cats to make sure they were okay. Seeing most had similar looks of confusion on their face. He moved to sit by Giantpaw, "Hey what were you guys doing in the first place?" He asked the apprentice. With the leader and medicine cats busy, and him and the apprentice mostly just sitting around if they'd been hunting or something they could make themselves useful and go collect the prey or something.
If she hadn't noticed it at first, she could watch it in real time now, as the blood vessels dilated. Slight, but she happened to notice. Of course, Ahava only had a heartbeat to really consider that, as she pulled herbs for her poultice. Shock Root to stimulate the nervous system, Blessed Thistle for better circulation, Ginger to force the heart rate up, increasing blood pressure, Cat's claw to stimulate the immune system, Coltsfoot to help aid breathing, Stinging Nettle for swelling. She watched the spreading hives as she chewed the herbs together as quickly as she possibly could, watching then spread from places where the berry juice had touched.
She spat the chewed nettle leaves on a leaf, divided it in half and pushed one half towards the talking cats. "The berry juice is causing the reaction. Clean it off and put this on it. It'll help reduce the hives. Not you though, Creampuff, we don't know what affected you before, and we're not taking that chance now." Ahava stated calmly, already putting another herb in her mouth as she worked quickly on two poultices.
The edible poultice contained the coltsfoot, as well as nettle seeds that the other didn't, in addition to leaves, of course. Once the two were finished, she carefully tilted Turbulentsea's head to avoid him choking on the mixture as she placed it under his tongue. Hopefully his throat wasn't so closed that some could drip down, but if not, hopefully the other poultice would help. She didn't hesitate to cut a deep gash in his flank, the amount of muscle there would, theoretically, aid in the absorption of the herbs administered. And they really were on a time crunch here. She cleared the blood that came up from the wound and placed in the poultice, covering it with some moss she'd brought, pressing down to ensure the herbs wouldn't simply be washed out by the blood.
Echomelody hadn't been talking but she had finally caught her breath and decided she was capable to help. She crouched down beside the medicine cat and began cleaning the raspberry juice off. "Will he be okay?" She asked between licks, her voice shaky. Someone had to ask. Turbulentsea was her friend. He had always been kind to her since she was a kit. She would be crushed if anything happened to him.
Giantpaw shrugged as Squirrelleap moved to sit beside him, his eyes still locked onto the dramatic scene. "We were sent to pick raspberries and then the dogs attacked." At Ahava's order, the large tom turned to stare down at the chewed up poultice on the ground. Yuck. Still, he obeyed, leaving Squirrelleap's side to scoop up some of the disgusting mess with one fuzzy paw. Echomelody had already gotten the easy job of licking off the raspberry juice. Giantpaw went to apply it to the fur, squeamishly placing the chewed up herbs on the cat and backing away quickly, rubbing his paw on the ground to clean it off. Hopefully Echomelody would also spread it around or ... whatever.
Squirrelleap pulled a face at the mixture as well, but the tom didn't hesitate, moving in to help Giantpaw with spreading the poultice on the areas cleaned of the berry juice, before then moving to assist Echomelody in cleaning away the berry juice before applying more of the mess where it was needed.

Suddenly Turbulentsea's sides rose as his lungs filled with air, his paw shooting to his throat as he began gasping for air once more. As scary as it sounded, to Ahava it might as well have been music. The gasping and choking, a sure sign that at least some air was getting through to his lungs now after stopping completely for several moments. He managed to turn to his side, coughing a up a mixture of herbs and blood that had gotten caught in his constricted throat. His breathing was still weak, weezing with every painful breathe. Hsi eyes were still fogged over, still not fully aware of the world around him, but for now... He was alive
Creampuff gasped, but seemed to for once reel back her excitement in favor for someone's health. She stayed beside Flamingstar rather than hugging Turbulentseas at the hip. He was going to make it, but even now she could tell he was fragile, only moments ago he was suffering and now he was okay. Actually only moments ago she was suffering too, what had happened? How did she recover so fast? As usual her troubled thoughts drifted away like lemon drops, instead focusing back on Turbulentseas, "I'm so happy you're okay."
"I think it's time that we all get back to camp. Turbulentsea needs to rest. Forget about the raspberries. I can collect them later." She began to guide Creampuff toward Creampuff.

"It's going to be very touch and go for the next few hours." Ahava warned, squashing any vain hopes that might have risen at the prospect of him breathing. It was a start, but he was nowhere near out of the woods yet, as it were. "Now that he's breathing, help me transport him back to camp. I'll be able to treat him better in our den."
"Of course" Echomelody responded to Ahava. She bent back down to the exhausted medicine cat. "Turbulentsea, if you can hear me, we are going to be moving you back to camp so brace yourself." With the help of the others, they got Turbulentsea up and began carrying him back to camp.
