Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Shatteredshine bounded through the flat plains, her head held high and eyes sparkling. Traveling was a fun life, and she loved seeing the new territory they wandered through. Sure, it was difficult, but it was worth it! She had moved between clans quite a few times in her youth and the young warrior was pleased to be on the move again. It simply felt right. She drifted back toward the camp and trotted in with a bird in her jaws. "Anyone want some feathers?"
Beestripe and Lamb were sitting in SwiftClan's camp grooming each other when they noticed Shatteredshine enter the camp, bird in her mouth. Beestripe ceased licking his mate's fur to ask her inquisitively, "Feathers for what?" Lamb cocked her head in confusion but said nothing. While Beestripe had grown up in a clan and was happy to have other cats to talk to again, Lamb was much more hesitant to get involved in the clan's matters.
She set down the bird at her paws, beaming at the pair. "Well, for anything! You can put them in your nest so it's nice and fluffy, or give them to the kits to play with. I bet they'll have a lot of fun chasing feathers, I sure did when I was little," Shatteredshine giggled. She and her siblings had been a pawful and feathers were an easy way to distract them from trouble.
The mates looked at each other at Shatteredshine's words. They had been discussing having kits for a while now, but Lamb had been too nervous about raising them in a clan that she wasn't yet comfortable in. Beestripe nudged her encouragingly, hoping she would respond to their clanmate. With a nervous sigh, Lamb stood up on her snow white legs and hesitantly approached Shatteredshine. "I would like a feather," she said, voice quiet with anxiety. "If you don't mind." From behind her, Beestripe was nodding encouragingly but staying back, allowing Lamb to carry the conversation alone.
"Of course!" Shatteredshine beamed, happy to offer up the gift to a new clanmate. She adjusted the bird and started to strip away at the plumage, then presented a few long feathers to the she-cat. They were wide and flat, light brown, and faintly spotted like the thrush they came from. "It'll make your nest very comfortable, for you and your kittens once they come," she assured her happily. If the pair were mates, Shatteredshine expected they'd have a bunch of little ones running around her paws soon.
Lamb's eyes went wide at the mention of her and Beestripe's kits. She mumbled, "Oh no, actually we aren't having any kit-" but suddenly she felt an overwhelming pain in her stomach. Lamb stumbled away from Shatteredshine, trying not to throw up. What was wrong with her? The beautiful feathers that the other she-cat had presented to her lay between them, and she focused her gaze on the spotted pattern to keep from being sick. Beestripe bounded over in alarm.
"O-oh," Shatteredshine stammered, looking rather confused. Who didn't want kits? She knew some cats felt that way - namely, her uncle - but she had never understood how they could resist the innocent allure of little kitten playing around their paws. She was on the verge of asking more when Lamb keeled over.
"Lamb? Lamb, are you okay?" She hurried to her side, crouching down beside Beestripe to tentatively prod at the she-cat. She had never learned anything about healing herbs or illness and she was at a loss. "Should I get Firetooth and Mistralpaw? What hurts?"
"No! I mean...no, I'-I'm fine." Lamb pulled the feathers towards her, blushing about all the attention being paid to her now that all eyes were on her. The sickness had only been happening for the last few days and she believed it to be her worries getting the better of her. It had to be, just what else could it be?
"Oh, are you quite sure? I don't want you to get any worse," she fretted. Though Shatteredshine was close to her side, she didn't want to touch Lamb, and ended up shifting a step back. "Have you been coughing, or-or felt sick before now?"
Beestripe was hovering right by Lamb, worry clouding his face. "I think you should immediately go see one of our medicine cats." He knew Lamb was uncomfortable with this new clan life, but this was exactly the type of instance where she was going to need to learn to rely on her clanmates.
"I su-suppose I-I could go...." But where were they again? What would they even saw? That she was dying! Lamb couldn't handle that kind of news, she'd lose it right then and there if that's what happened. The she-cat pressed herself towards her mate, refusing to let her fearful eyes met his or anyone else's.
Beestripe hated the thought of leaving Lamb's side right now, especially because he knew she wouldn't understand why. "I promise I will come right back," he said to her, dipping his head and nudging hers before pulling away from his mate. A medicine cat was one of the best reasons to join a clan again, and he was very happy in this moment that they had made that decision. He ran off to seek out Firetooth or Mistralpaw.
