Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Greypaw just needed to get out of camp, and away from his family. The pale grey feline was stuck in limbo without a mentor, and the vague instruction to be useful until he was assigned a mentor. The small tomcat had spent his time either with his parents or grandparents, but depending on the cat, the conversation got a bit to much for the young tom. Greypaw felt rather neutral about his families belief that only NightClan born cats should be in the Clan. Greypaw figured that so long as the cat was loyal and was actually contributing to NightClan, they could be a three headed dog for all he cared. But the tom had a sinking feeling his neutrality was not welcomed and he would have to choose a stand point. He sighed deeply as the roar of the waterfall turned into the whisper of the stream.
His paw steps where heavy as he had yet to learn to walk silently all the time. The low hooting of an owl sent a shiver up Greypaw's spine, but the bird was a safe distance away. The tom wished that he could hunt, but knew he'd do more harm than good if he tried alone.

Eaglepaw was restless and wanted to get out of the camp before his mentor spotted him and told him to do some unpleasant job like cleaning out the nursery or some such thing. While he was out, he picked up the scent trail of his denmate and thought he'd practice his trailing skills by following him. That was much more interesting than doing chores. This was real work, like the things warriors did. When he came upon Greypaw, he meowed, "Hi! Whatcha doing?"
Giantpaw was tired from his outing with his mentor, but he noticed his youngest brother leaving the camp. He had been trying to find time to talk with him for a while now, but it felt like Greypaw had been avoiding him. The large apprentice made his way out of camp, following another apprentice as he did so. It seemed like it was leave-camp time for many cats, and the tom was miffed at the idea that he was being left out of some secret gathering. A bit irate that he was being ignored by Greypaw and possible left out of something, Giantpaw stopped a bit away from the other two apprentices for a moment to listen in on them. He had hoped that his heavy body hadn't been too loud and that his scent wouldn't drift over, but there was no telling. Firewind hadn't taught him these sorts of things yet.

(Creativefyre gave up Greypaw and I adopted him. We can continue with this thread if you like or we can start another one. Disregard the following roleplay if you want to discontinue with this one.)
Greypaw turned his head in surprise at the sound of another cat's voice then relaxed a bit when he saw his denmate Eaglepaw. "Oh, I just came out here to think," he replied not wanting to share with him his thoughts. Although Eaglepaw was a NightClan cat by birth, he didn't belong to a pure breed line as he did. He wouldn't understand the blessings or the problems that come from a heritage such as his. To keep the other cat from questioning him further, he asked why he had come here. Was he hunting?
"No, not really," Eaglepaw meowed. "I wanted to get out of camp before anyone could make me do some boring job." His ears pricked and he looked back over his shoulder. "Did you hear that? Someone's over there." He peered toward where he had heard the rustling sound.
Oh, fox-dung. Giantpaw's ears went back in irritation that he'd been overheard. While he was thankful that it didn't appear the other two apprentices were conspiring, his disappointment in his own skills outweighed it. The tom stepped forward, showing himself. "Hey," he meowed, eyes taking in the other two cats. "What's going on?"

"Nothing," Eaglepaw replied, "Although I wish there was. I could do with some excitement or adventure." His face held a bored look.
"Hello Giantpaw," Greypaw meowed. He wasn't too pleased to see his brother just now but he wasn't going to tell him that. Hadn't he had come out here to get away from his family for a bit and to think? Giantpaw was so much into the importance of pure bloodlines but Greypaw really wasn't in that camp. Why did it all matter anyway? What's important is just being a loyal NightClan member. In an effort to avoid the subject, he asked, "Do either of you know how to hunt yet? I won't get a mentor until the next ceremonies but I'd like to know some basics now."
The large tom nodded at Eaglepaw. He didn't really know many cats outside of his own family very well, and that included the other apprentice. "I know the feeling," was all he said, turning to his brother instead. He disliked the feeling of being avoided, and though he doubted that was what Greypaw was actively doing, there was still that chance. He padded up to his brother, oblivious to his mood. Giantpaw gave him an affectionate bump of his head in greeting. He was unaware of Greypaw's feelings on bloodlines and similar matters for now. Who knew when that would change? Until then, he was pleased to see his family member. "I don't know how to hunt yet, no. Firewind and I have explored the territory, but that's it."

Despite his mood, Greypaw did appreciate his brother's affectionate greeting with actually made him feel a little bit better. "That's more than I've done," he meowed. "This is about as far as I have gone outside the camp."
"That's a shame," Eaglepaw said. "But I can show both of you what I know about hunting, that is if you want me to." It'll be kind of fun to show my newer den mates some warrior skills I had already learned. It'll be good practice too for when I get to become a mentor some day. Plus it beats standing around doing nothing.
"Really?" Greypaw asked with interest showing in his voice. "I'd like that. How about you?" he asked turning to Giantpaw.
Giantpaw thought about it. He wasn't ashamed to let a fellow clanmate teach him something he didn't know, but he didn't want to if Eaglepaw was of mixed blood. That would be so embarrassing. But how could he even bring that up in conversation? Giantpaw decided to go about it subtly and for now agreed to be shown how to hunt. "Yes, that sounds fine to me."

"That's great!" Eaglepaw meowed enthusiastically. He stepped back a pace and looked at both brothers. "Okay, the first thing you do is make sure you're downwind of your prey. That way so you can smell it but it can't smell you coming." Slowly he turned his head trying to detect which way the air was flowing. When he found out he meowed, "The air current is coming from this direction. You can tell by how it passes through your whiskers."
Greypaw turned so he was facing in the same direction as Eaglepaw. "Hey, I can feel it," he meowed. "So then we hunt for prey over there, right?"
Giantpaw twitched his ear at his brother's words and lifted his head a bit, trying to feel for the wind. He followed where Eaglepaw had said the wind was coming from, a bit unhappy that Greypaw had felt it quicker than he had. Finally, there it was. A brush against his whiskers from an unseen force. "Yes, I feel it," he meowed.

"Now while you're facing into the air current, open your mouth slightly and breathe in the air through both your nose and mouth," Eaglepaw instructed. "That way scents will be stronger and more easy to detect."
Greypaw tried smelling the way Eaglepaw had instructed. It seemed a bit awkward but he did it anyway. A rush of smells came to him making it difficult to distinguish them apart from each other. "I can smell a lot of different things but it's hard to tell them apart." He was a bit discouraged, afraid he wouldn't ever be able to figure it out.
"It was that way for me too the first few times I tried," Eaglepaw replied. "But after practice you can tell where the mouse is hiding, how far away the squirrel is, and in what tree the bird is sitting all at the same time." He looked over at Giantpaw. "So how's it coming for you?"
The apprentice shrugged, having less and less of a good time. "Not great," he admitted begrudgingly. "I don't know why I can't get this. I should be ten times better."

"You're just starting out," Eaglepaw reminded Giantpaw. "All this stuff takes practice. It took me two moons before I was able to get the hang of this. I thought my mentor was going to give up on me but then all of a sudden it just happened. I was able to tell the scents apart when there were several in one area. So don't be too discouraged. It'll come to you. What helped me," he continued, "was focusing on just one of the scents I smelled instead of trying to take them all in at once."
Greypaw tried again but this time he decided to concentrate on the mouse scent. "It's hard but I think the mouse is somewhere in front of us," he meowed after a short while.
Giantpaw nodded along, listening to Eaglepaw halfheartedly. He was no longer interested in this if he wasn't going to be good at it. Still, he didn't want to be showed up so he tried anyway. Surprisingly he was able to pick out one scent. "I caught one," he said proudly, but then he admitted, "But I'm not sure what it is."

"Is it an appetizing prey type of scent or is it a sour predator kind?" Just then he wondered what cats smelled like to other predators. Did they as bad to them like the way foxes and badgers smelled to cats? Eaglepaw drew in the scents himself wondering what Giantpaw was smelling. This is kind of fun, he thought. Soon I'll be promoted and then maybe I'll get an apprentice of my own to teach.
Giantpaw wrinkled his nose. "It's sort of sour," he replied, scenting a bit more. "But it doesn't scare me. I don't think it's a predator or I'd feel more alarmed right?"

"I can!" Greypaw meowed wrinkling his nose in disgust.
Just then Eaglepaw picked up the scent. He was chagrined that he being older and more experienced hadn't detected the stench sooner. "Oh yes, I can smell it," he answered Giantpaw. "It's awful!" He followed the odor several paces from where they were standing and came upon a small pile of dead leaves. Curiously he pawed away the dead vegetation only to reveal a rotting squirrel with hundreds of wriggling maggots running through it. Jumping back quickly, he immediately began wiping his paw on the ground. "Crowfood!" he hissed.
Greypaw looked and turned away gagging. "That's disgusting!"
