There sat the tom on his window sill as usual, looking out into the unknown world past the glass barrier. The black cat stared into the woods for as long as it could go until it turned into pitch blackness, blue eyes shining with wonder while daydreaming of adventurers beyond this property. No that the cat knew much about the property or even outside for that manner, no Tyler has always been an indoor cat and while he did have it good here he felt that he was not meant to be here. Where though he did not know...but it was most definitely somewhere out there in the world. If only he could get the chance to just even step on grass, as to even know what grass felt like on his paws...
It was then that it happened, the small human kit was once again walking around (she was getting so good at that) and she did something even he didn't think she could do: she opened the window. Smiling she gibbered in a language that was still foreign to him, he'd never really learned too far (not to be honest had no desire to) but was never the less thankful for what she did. The older human said something from another room leaving the human kit distracted and turning her head. As quick and quietly as he could Tyler squeezed underneath the open window as best as he could and darted outside. Even with the small fencing the humans he he climbed over it with ease.
It wasn't until he was a good distance away that he froze in his spot, now absorbing the situation for what it was: he was free. Tyler was outside! The breeze was lightly blowing on his fur, the sun warming him, and the grass so much softer than he thought it would be underneath his paws. This was the best thing ever! He had no intentions of ever going back...not that he didn't care for those beings but he had felt suffocated and limited in what he wanted to do. Now...he could do whatever he wanted to do. Be wherever he wanted to be...he could be what he was meant to be: A wild cat. This was right...this was home.
Although he was being overloaded with his new environment and taking it all in the black tom was not paying true attention to his surroundings or anything that could be in it...
Why she had returned to the city, the Huntress didn't know. The rotting streets, the hostile gangs, the humans... this place had nothing on the forests just mere hours from the dark depths of the city; however, the city had some nice parts. When in the desert she found herself longing for an ocean breeze, an easy meal stolen from the city's humans, or a sparing match in the sewers beneath the metropolis. She fought some of her best fights in the sewers. Perhaps it was the smell or the setting, but it brought out the savagery in her. In any case, the city's crowding made the cons outweigh the pros. Spending too long in crowded place meant she'd garner a reputation among the locals: her worst nightmare.
So she was on her way out of the urban center. Her week traveling in the cities depths had come to end, and she wanted to return home. Really, anywhere not in the concrete jungle. The Bengal stalked through a rather populous part of the city in the shadows. More humans lived here than in her usual areas, and she had been chased by humans here more than once. It more than warranted caution for even the most experienced city dweller. Oddly enough, she found it easier to travel through this section midday. For whatever reason, the humans all left their homes in the morning and didn't return until the night. Even stranger: none of them posted guards. Wild stuff.
The Bengal's icy eyes swiveled the deserted streets for any signs of humans before turning around the corner. Her pawsteps were quick and with purpose: getting out of view. Even with most of the humans gone, she did not want to leave everything to chance. A flash of movement in one of the houses caught her eyes, so she dove behind one of their garbage cans. She scrunched up her nose at the scent bombardment, but there was no way anything could smell her anymore. To her surprise, a cat emerged from the human's territory. His body lacked the distinctive scars of street living, and his fur had almost no mud or anything trapped in it. She chuckled. A kittypet. Fine with her. She emerged from behind the garbage cans and shouldered past him.

It took the black tom a moment to realize that something had made him move over slightly and even a moment longer that it had been a cat. Tyler had seen a few cats in the windows of the neighboring houses, but they always ignored his attempts in communication or turned their backs on him. He had no friends or anyone to really talk to, and so got really excited to see this feline. The tom had never seen a cat with markings like hers (both pelt and what looked like some old scars) or as ice cold blue eyes like hers either.
Clearing his throat a bit Tyler attempted to give a decent greeting, hoping perhaps this cat would be friendly towards him and not shut him out like so many others had. "Uh h-h-hi there ma'am, my name is Tyler and its uh nice to meet you! You have a very lovely pelt, its like none I have ever seen and to be honest I find it rather cool." Oh god, did he sound as awkward as he felt? Tyler hoped not.
(Sorry this took so long! I had finals last week and I've been really tired. I should be more regular now.)
So, the kittypet spoke, and maybe for the first time. The Huntress couldn't stop herself from chuckling at the tom's speech. If she had not walked by him, she would have thought it was some small kitten. But he was a full grown cat. It gave her some pity for the young tom. He was a kittypet for all his life, and now he had no idea how to talk to anyone. She could play with him for a bit before moving on. It was more than a beating she usually gave cats like him.
Her head swung back to look at the kittypet. Her icy optics glared into Tyler's. Talking to him did not mean being kind about it. "Hmpf. You sound like a kitten just weaned from its mother." Her voice was a low growl. "Do you want to try that again and waste more of my time, Tyler? Please, do."

(Your totally fine, I don't blame you at all. Irl can get busy so I totally understand ♡)
Although crestfallen he wasn't surprised, after all the other cats had beeen harsh to home too. He was determined to stay outside in this new freedom and wanted to make a friend. Tyler felt so excited but if he kept it up and just thought of him as a kit she would never take him seriously. So he needed to calm dowm and change tactics. Trying to feel more cool and confident he took a slow deep breatg and spoke again. "Actually I'd love to take up more of your time. Your not a pet like every cat I've know, so you must be a wild cat. Tell me, what is it like out here? Obviously you have seen some things and have been in some battles," nodding to her scars. "I'd like to give up life as a pet and live the life a cat should live, may it come to the cost of comfort and luxury. Freedom is better than a life trapped and snipped." Which again he was lucky to not have had happened yet.
She didn't know what was worse, the kitten or the robot. Before he sounded like a newborn kitten in awe of a soldier returning from battle, and now he sounded like some emotionless thing. The Huntress's eyes looked back to his dwelling. He certainly had it easy. She spent enough time in the city to recognize the mechanisms that locked down a house, and his certainly had the works. She was one of his first conversations with someone that understood him. It explained his complete ineptitude, and made it far more entertaining, yet disturbing. She was never a people person, but she recognized the Her eyes went back to the tom. "Hmm... try something between those two. Now you're trying way too hard."

Tyler gave a frustrated sigh. "Ahh yeah...I'm trying too hard aren't I? I'm sorry if I am sounding stupid, I'm honestly not used to talking to, well anyone and so I'm...I think I've been coming off a little too strong." He sat down and shook his head for a moment to think before speaking again. "I did tell the truth when I said I wish to live out here. Living a life as a pet is...not a life at all. Simple as that. Something is telling me this is where I am meant to be...if that makes any sense to you. I feel like I'm being drawn out here. I know we only just met and I think I've done nothing but annoy you. However...I would like to learn to and actually live rather than waste away in a window wonder what life actually was. I'll help you in anyway I could." The black tom look to the she cat for a response, hoping she could see what he was like and hoped he would be worthwhile to have around. His blue eyes shone in a simple plea and with determination.
Just as she thought, he was isolated in the structure. As unfortunate as it was, she had no obligation to help him. Anything he did would be slow or clumsy at best, or downright counterproductive at worst, but he was lost. Not long ago she was in a similar situation, so the Huntress understood at least some of his woes. She came out on top, and returned to set things right. Maybe he could do the same, maybe not. "How's this: you can come with me and learn from me, but I will not slow down for you. If you mess up and get chased by some dogs, I will leave you behind. If you pick a fight with the wrong cats, I will not defend you." She thought it was more than fair. She had no reason to teach someone like him, so why did she need to take on extra liability? "You will do what I say when I say it, and you will do so without question or hesitation."

Tyler thought only for a moment before quickly agreeing, With a slight sigh of relief Tyler meowed, "I think thats a fair agreement. Okay, I'll follow you without question and not get into trouble. Thank you uh..." The black cat realized he never caught her name. In all of his attempt to actually have a conversation with the she cat he hadn't asled for her name...well that was rude of him. Guess this was all part of the learning experience and he'd have to adapt quickly to anything since she already promised she wouldn't save him were he to get into trouble or struggle.
She snorted and waived her tail. "It wouldn't matter if it were fair or not. You either take it or you don't. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it." Not looking over her shoulder to check if he was following, she turned around and started walking away. "I'm The Huntress. Before you ask: no, it's not my birth name. No, you can't know my birth name. Yes, there is a story behind it, and I won't tell you what it is right now." He'd have to show he was worth something before he learned anything else. "Now, what are you called?"

He was very curious about this she cat...The Huntress, but he would most definitely not dig deeper into her life or past unless she permited it. With that being understood he followed the pretty feline but didn't get too close to her within her personal bubble. "I'm Tyler, hopefully I won't stick out too much that I'm uh new to this." As they walked however he was once again in awe of his surroundings...every sound, smell, step, and feeling was so new and amazing. He should have left sooner than this, how could he have let those people keep him inside for so long?
She rolled her eyes. "Don't worry about sticking out too much. You can only make it more obvious than it already is." She looked over her shoulder to see him in awe of everything. Literally everything. It was like he never heard birds before, and never smelled the air. Well, not that it was necessarily pleasant. "Don't get to excited. If you make it to the forest, you'll never want to step foot in the city again. Between all the gangs here and the dirty air, the forest is simply a much nicer place." Speaking of gangs, they were being watched. She couldn't place how she knew, but something felt off. Maybe some other cats were using the lack of humans to their advantage as well. "Keep your head low and prowl. Don't just walk."

He heard the command in her tone and did as he was asked. Tyler's excitement vanished when he felt that something was up just by the Huntress's body language. Something occured to the tom that he never thought of before: there were probably cats that could be dangerous and would want to fight him. Why didn't he even havs this thought before hand...he had claws and teeth yes but he didn't know how to exactly fight and feline out here had lived their lives all outside. They had a huge advantage over him...but if he listened to the she cat he'd be fine...right?
The Huntress knew her capabilities. She had mastered a set of fighting styles that cats in the city or the Clans had never seen in addition to what she had learned in her travels. Most rogues fell into two categories: savage and ruthless, or cleaver and tactical, but hardly ever both. It was the byproduct of growing up alone and only playing to strengths; however, it was a good way to start. Tyler would learn that the hard way. She watched a single cat emerge from an alleyway in front of them. His gray fur blended with the drab city buildings, and his sea blue eyes only complemented his appearance. He had fewer scars than expected for his age, but nothing terribly out of the norm. Great. She looked back to Tyler. "Let's see you talk this guy up. I'd rather not waste my supplies today."

With a blink Tyler walked up to the cat but only to a certain distance between them. He remained cool and calm allowing his instincts to guide him. The tom felt himself giving off the presences of defense and caution. He nodded to the other feline in acknowledgement as he spoke,"We are just passing by and have no want or desire to be messed with or have a fight. We wish to walk away peaceful if all possible. I'd rather not have a tussle when we don't wish to take your territory." The tom wished that these cats would allow them to leave but he wasn't foolish enough to believe they quite possibly wouldn't fight at all. More than likely this may well end up in a brawl. Tyler hoped not, he only knew basic moves any cat would know and was by no means a skilled fighter like the Huntress was. If what she said was true she wouldn't mind leaving him behind to deal with this, so he had to rely on himself to deal with the situation at hand.
(Sorry this is so late. I was not in a great place for writing last week.)
His eyes wandered between the two cats. Now who were these specimens? His gaze first settled on Tyler. His fur was remarkable clean, save for a few splotchy patches of fresh dirt on the surface. His plet lacked any scarring whatsoever. His walk was not that of a city cat, but of a kittypet, or ex-kittypet at his point. Whatever. He clearly just stepped out of the garden. The tom was still effectively a kittypet. His eyes drifted to the Huntress. She had far more scarring, and her walk was one of power. She trusted her abilities, and could be an issue. His eyes returned to Tyler and the tom let out an exaggerated sigh. "You're cramping my style, kittypet. How am I supposed to talk you up all nice now? Ehh, whatever. I'm sure we can figure it out as we go. You see, I'm Alexei, and me and my friends run these parts. We ain't got problems with kittypets when they stay in their gardens, but..." He gestured to Tyler and to the world around him. "You're in my garden. That's where our issues start, but know you've got a friend here. Oof." He sighed again. "How are we going to handle this... I know! You two are gonna catch three days worth of food for me and my friends before you leave. You know, as a thank you to us for letting you pass through."

(If there are things going on and you can't reply because your not in a great mind set definitely take a break if needed. I won't get mad about that, your fine ♡)
Tyler couldn't believe this, the tom was bribing them to hunt for him or else they wouldn't be allowed to pass...they didn't have thw time. Huntress had told him she would continue on without him and he knew she wouldn't stick around to do the hunt. Plus the black tom felt that if he coward down now he'd be walked on by others...yet he didn't want confrontation...he was in a really sticky situation that was for sure. Tyler wondered what Huntress thought about all of this. He wasn't sure what she would do if it was just herself, he didn't really know her that well.
What a pickle: he couldn't stick around as the she cat would leave him but the tom didn't want to speak on Huntress 's behalf when it might now be something she'd be fine with.
"Uh is there some other way we can sort this out? My friend and I can't stay around too long...we uh have places to be." Well this wasn't going well what so ever.
Alexei chuckled. "Hmmm, so do I, my dear, dear friend. I have places to be, things to do, and not enough time to do it all. This little chat of ours had already taken up sooo much of my time." He took a few more steps forward and circled his claw over the ground. He clearly had no care for whatever Tyler said. Any time spent negotiating meant that one of his own may find them. All Alexei needed was time, and Tyler would have no choice but to give it to him. "Unfortunately for you, the toll just went up. I now need food for the next four days, and maybe a little something else. So, what's it gonna be?"
Post by ashestoashes on Jun 27, 2020 0:17:23 GMT -5
With an internal sigh the black tom knew what was gonna have to happen. "I don't think we will be able to get the prey you want...now let us leave...uh now." Tyler tried to remain clam but felt the fur along his spine start to bristle, his fur and tail puffing up in frustration...maybe even anger?
This kittypet really had a sense of humor. Unfortunately, Alexei didn't share it. His faux smile disappeared in an instant and the tom lashed out at Tyler, just barely swiping in front his nose. He narrowed his eyes. "Well then, what are you gonna do about our little issue, house-pet? Are you going to fight me? I wouldn't. You might scar the precious pelt of yours." Alexei was counting on his partner not stepping in. He was confident he could take one of them, but both would be a stretch.
The Huntress leaned over and whispered into Tyler's ear. "Fight him. He's bluffing." She knew most city cats had limited herbal knowledge. Any fight was a risk, one this rogue probably didn't want to take.
