It was only fitting, that It was a raven that narrowly evaded his claws. It was rare that they were ever out at night, and Levee would have loved to have added it to the fresh-kill pile, though much like the owl it was unlikely he would ever actually catch one. Shaking his head to clear the fog from his thoughts he scanned the surroundings, for even the vaguest signs of life. Call it luck or divine will but, he just so happened to spot a squirrel, illuminated gray in the moon’s light. Dropping into a hunter’s crouch, amber eyes focused, he slowly stalked towards his prey.

Ever since the fateful night that Leviathan had taken over MoonClan and declared himself Selene's chosen leader, Wisp had eyed the tom with distrust. Now, it seemed like providence to find him in the territory alone, and Wisp wasn't one to pass up one of Selene's blessings. She had no doubt she could take the tom on, but bloodshed wasn't on her schedule that night. Instead, she watched as he stalked towards the squirrel, allowing him the catch before she confronted him. The she-cat had some questions for the tom, questions she couldn't have anyone else know she was asking.
She crouched in the shadow of a massive pine, the ebony and ivory on her pelt warring to catch the faint moonlight filtering through the needles onto the ground. She had been shunned almost her entire life due to her strange beginnings and even stranger personality, but she finally had the chance for answers in front of her and she wouldn't let it slip through her claws. As soon as she caught the squirrel in his trap, she would spring her own.
Leviathan was too focused on his hunt to further check his surroundings, a student mistake, but he had no reason to fear anything within his own territory, knowing full well he could handle himself. The black and white tom stalked forward painstakingly slow at first, with gossamer like paw steps, then in a flash he struck, killing the squirrel quickly before the gray creature even knew he was there. He straightened licking it's warm blood from his lips before softly thanking Selene for his catch. If he knew someone was near by he gave no sign of it as he lazily washed the blood from his muzzle.

"Leviathan." Wisp stood and padded from around the tree, not deluding herself by thinking he was unaware of her presence. "I have some questions for you. I was hoping you would oblige me by answering them." The follower's tone of voice did not match the easy-going words leaving her mouth, and her eyes gave away the deadly seriousness she felt. "You'll make time for me, won't you?" Her eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep and faint scars seemed to trace over her haunches like spiderwebs. The she-cat was small, much smaller than her leader, but the slightly dangerous vibes emanating from her betrayed the idea that she was harmless.
The Cardinal's ear twitched in the direction he'd heard his name being called. He turned his head in turn to meet Wisp. He stood up, smiling softly as he regarded the she-cat seemingly dismissing her icy tone entirely. " But of course, It's my job to answer your questions after all" he purred calmly. He wasn't a fool and knew very well that Wisp wasn't very fond of him, he didn't really mind that too much. He was obligated to look after all Selene's followers regardless of how they felt about him and she was no different. He sat down in front of her, only after taking a moment to properly bury his squirrel so that they could take it back to camp with them.

His easy-going nature grated on her nerves, but she forced herself to relax. After all, it wasn't a conflict she was after, not tonight at least. She padded closer, her pawsteps silent on the needles scattered across the forest floor. She took a seat a few paces ahead of him in a pool of moonlight, allowing Selene's grace to calm her while she gathered her courage to ask a question she'd been hiding her entire life.
"If you truly believe in the Goddess the way that you claim you do," she began, her voice soft as though she worried someone might be eavesdropping, "Then can you explain why she has gifted me with torment my entire life?" Her ears flicked, the only indication she knew what kind of question she was asking. She'd never outright told anyone - not even her sister - about the things she saw and experienced her entire life, and was putting herself in danger by even admitting in a roundabout way what she was to the Cardinal. "Why would our Goddess who claims mercy and love to her chosen followers bestow upon me terrors that follow me into the waking world, and torment in every shadow?"
For once Levee frowned, actually frowned at the she-cat's words. His eyes focused as she spoke, he didn't need to ask, he knew exactly what she was talking about. He took was 'blessed' by Selene to see things that others could not, and he would be lying if he tried to deny seeing the dark figures that followed Wisp around. He couldn't speak for what she saw in her dreams but he knew they were more than just dreams. "Because you're strong." he said simply, it was cheesy yes but he had a point to this. "Selene in all her greatness only blesses those with the sight that she has judged as strong enough to be able to handle seeing the world as it is. We're not alone here, and our territory doesn't just belong to the living." He spoke with nothing short of the upmost confidence.

Wisp watched his expression morph into a frown and felt like the news coming would be bad, but was shocked with his simple reply. Her gut reaction was a sharp laugh, disbelief and disappointment combined in the harsh sound. "Because I'm strong?" she asked, though she looked much more like the young she-cat she was rather than the cynical, hardened follower she was often taken as. "I'm strong?" she asked again, an edge of desperation creeping into her voice. "I'm not strong, Leviathan, I'm too weak." Tears gathered in the corners of her eyes, but she wasn't so gone as to allow them to fall.
"I haven't slept a full-night since I was a kit. I see things that others don't, have to pretend that the dead aren't hovering over us all constantly. I'm not like my sister," she spat, inadvertently revealing a secret that wasn't her's to share and not even realizing it, "I don't just get to see thee nice, happy spirits that need comfort and reassurance. I get the lowest of the low, the creeps, murderers, betrayers. I'm not strong," she repeated, lowering her head as she was unable to meet the Cardinal's eyes anymore. "Selene has judged me wrong. I wish she would just take her gift back and let me be."
"You're stronger than you give yourself credit for." his words weren't intended to be comforting or kind, instead they were curt, and straight to the point. "You have a gift bestowed upon you by Selene, to reject it would be to reject her." He stood turning to face the river, before glancing back at her, his amber gaze glistening in the moonlight. "Come with me there's something I think you should see." He beckoned her with his tail to follow him. "We can continue this discussion as we walk."

Wisp eyed him with distrust, not forgetting that he had come and usurped the former leadership and taken over MoonClan himself, though Selene hadn't done anything to show her displeasure at him. Still... She sighed and blinked back her tears, following a short distance behind him. She ignored the shadowy figures looming in the shadows as they walked, ignored the way ephemeral paws seemed to poke or prod her when she got too close, and instead chose to question Leviathan. "I've seen everything this territory has to offer ten times over," she mewed, falling back on her brusque attitude she often wore.
He chuckled at her words, finding genuine amusement in the dramatic irony of them. "I thought that once too, but, I can assure you, you have not seen all this territory has to offer you." his tail flicked to and fro behind him, out of habit more than anything. Her cold attitude towards him didn't irk him in the slightest but, he suspected she would of liked it to. He just wouldn't give her the satisfaction of a reaction. "I was going to wait to show anyone this place but, It seems like it would benefit you to see it now." By now she would be able to tell they were undoubtedly headed towards the waterfall.

"The waterfall?" she asked dryly, flicking her tail when a spectral paw swiped at it. "I know all about the waterfall, Oh Wise One." Still, she was curious to see what he thought would be new to her and hurried slightly, matching his pace and falling into place by his side. She wasn't a naturally cold cat, but fell back on old habits when afraid or hurt, and she was both of those at the moment.
"Leviathan..." she began, instantly regretting starting this conversation. "How...how did you know that Selene wanted you to come here? She didn't speak to you directly, did she?"
Caught off guard by her question the Cardinal laughed out loud for the first time, in maybe ever. "I'm sorry, That was rude, I didn't mean to laugh so hard." he said, once he had caught himself. The cardinal was usually so composed, so it was rare that his formal demeanor ever slipped, he usually only felt comfortable enough to laugh and joke around with his mate or his sister. "She did speak to me directly, She all but physically dragged me here herself..." He paused to consider his next words carefully. "She's been a whisper in my ear since I was a kit, guiding me. I wasn't sure why she was so invested in me until she told me to find MoonClan" he confessed.

His laughter caused her ears to flatten, instantly going defensive, until she realized he didn't mean the laughter to be at her expense. Her ears slowly rose back up and she tilted her head when he explained his past, confusion and questions filling her gaze. "You mean, you've actually heard her speak?" Wisp's voice was reverent, wistful, and worshiping. It was clear from the simple question how much Wisp loved her guardian deity, no matter how much she may blame Her for the hardships of her life. "What is she like, Leviathan?" she asked, discarding any semblance of cool reserve.
"She's everything they say she is" he whispered. "Beautiful, graceful as most tom's would say but, she's more than that. She is the definition of love and life itself. Ever since the day I lost my parents she has been by my side. watching over me and guiding me in my mother's absence. She could never replace her of course, but her love and acceptance filled a void that might of turned into a black pit inside my soul, or whatever is left of it. If It wasn't for her I would of died in the flood that took my parents and the rest of my litter-mates that day, and I'll never forget it." His tone was so soft as he spoke, never before had the black and white tom shown any sort of vulnerability to any of his followers until now. "Ever since that day I could see them... The lost wondering stuck between this life and the next, but I could also see her.

Wisp listened raptly, barely chancing a breath lest her look into the Goddess was cut short. "Unbelievable," she breathed, feeling a sense of serenity simply from talking about their patron deity. Her anger and frustration began to melt away, but it still simmered deep in her heart. Shaking her head, she explained somewhat sadly, "See, this is what I don't understand. I don't get why she can guide you with such love and kindness and push onto me this burden worthy of a punishment."
