Noting the cats discomfort with talking about his past the small tom decided to follow the changed subject. Whatever was bothering Hywel he would not push it, and would let him deal with his own things on his own terms. "I was partially trying to memorize the territory and hopefully catch a thing or two while being out and about. You know, make it productive so the clan knows I can be useful and not a complete waste of space."
Pausing for a moment Luminescence added," Between you and me I have a question to ask...do you believe in the goddess Selene? I didn't know anything about her until I joined the clan."

Hywel grinned at that. Of course. He still hadn't memorized everything–he could recognize the areas by certain landmarks, but he'd never be as familiar with the landscape as those who were born here would be. He had sort of accepted that fact. Still, he understood what Luminescence meant; he had gone out a few times in an effort to simply remember where things were. "I've done the same," he agreed, "glad I checked that off the newcomer checklist too."
At his second question, Hywel's expression turned more thoughtful. "To be honest, all the gods feel the same in my mind," he admitted truthfully, "my home...we believed in something else we called the Green One. He is life, death, and rebirth; his three faces each tell us a different truth, but we were taught that truth itself has different faces but they're not different beings." He hummed, before turning to Luminscence. "Selene isn't all that different from our gods and heroes back where I'm from, so it's not hard to adjust. I suppose I believe in her...but not in the way the others do, does that make sense?"

"It make sense to me", purred the small feline. "I mean I traveled with no thoughts or religions, however shortly before joining I had heard of a thing called Starclan which does sound interesting to me...but when joining I learned that here they don't believe so much in starclan but in Selene. I like the sound of both of them, but woth what you said it could be possible to believe in both...of course I wouldn't be able to say this out loud. They'd throw me out if they knew that." Which surprisingly scared Luminescence, he had only been in the clan a short time but felt like he was in the place he was supposed to be. This was hia new home now and he would do anything to stay here.

He chuckled at that. "I suppose they might, but your secret's safe with me as long as mine is safe with you," he smiled, more amused than anything. Frankly, Hywel didn't care if he was kicked out necessarily; he was a traveler by heart and settling down in one space had never been a plan of his. Still, he wasn't the kind to stir the pot unnecessarily. "Our world is so much bigger than just this forest and the clans...I'm sure if Selene is out there, she'd probably have to share her part of the world with the other gods if we have to share our forest with the other clans, no?"
He chuckled quietly to himself. "Though don't tell anyone that either, it might be sacrilege to say that out loud."

With a small sigh of reliefe Luminescence felt happy knowing Hywel felt something similar to himself. The tom knew he wouldn't be able to say these things infront of the other cats in the clan so it was nice knowning he could trust this tom without worry. "I won't say a word, swear it upon Selene...or any god that may exist." He couldn't help but give a small smirk that this remark. This other tom sure wasn't like any he had ever met, and the longer they hung out the more Luminescence felt like he could truly be himself. This was a rather relaxing experience and one he wouldn't forget.

He grinned at the other cat. "Good," he replied, whiskers twitching in amusement. It was nice to know someone understood, and well, he liked the other tom. He was the kind of cat that, maybe when he had been younger, he would've wished to be. Optimistic, friendly, easy-going, the kind who seemed so...open, with day to day worries that, in the long run, seemed more like obstacles to overcome than problems to haunt him in his future.
Or maybe he was just making too many assumptions. They barely knew each other; of course his understanding of the other cat would be idealized and, dare he admit it, almost childish. He shook away the thought. It was rare to find somewhere so relaxed, and Hywel appreciated it, at least.
He could taste the dampness in the air that signaled they were by the lake. He turned to the other cat. "You ready to see the lake yet?" he smirked.
Post by ashestoashes on May 25, 2020 19:14:54 GMT -5
The tom's eyes lit up in excitement, ready to see what the lake would look like at this time. " Most definitely, " a slight purr came from the smaller feline. He could tell by the change in the air this was the right place he had been looking for. Maybe there would be some decent fish within the water? Maybe or maybe it was too late at nigh to find them. Either way this trip to the lake was worth while.

Hywel grinned, as they exited the thicket that surrounded the waters, out into the open. A cool breeze rippled through the air and he let out a content sigh, allowing the wind to brush against his fur like an old friend. "I guess the lake and the moors always reminded me a little bit of home...so it's not too bad settling here," he chuckled, "imagine if I had gone to another clan instead. I'd miss this kind of thing. There was a loch near where I was born too...the lake reminds me of it. My mother used to take us to the banks and tell us to keep an eye out for a monster, but it was probably some kits' tale."
He wasn't used to sharing about himself, and this was as far as he'd go about talking of his old life to most cats, but he felt comfortable enough to share that tiny detail about his kithood.
Post by ashestoashes on May 26, 2020 3:42:25 GMT -5
The air felt fresh and clean, the waters were sparkling as the sky above with the stars reflecting in its ripples. This places was so beautiful, the tom couldn't help but be in awe of its beauty. In his travels he had seen many bodies of water but none that captured his attention like this.
Listening to Hywel's story as a kit was also interesting to Luminescence and felt he was allowing the tom to glimpse a small bit of himself to him. Even if it was a story about his kithood this was still proof that Hywel was slowly trusting him. "That sounds so sweet...what as the monster your mother told you about?" He didn't want to press harder into Hywels past, he was sensing this feline was typically closed in on himself, not unlike Luminescence's old friend. Talking about something small and innocent was a good way to focus less on Hywel's past, move past the discussion. To allow him to be comfortable in telling Luminescence his life. Pressing too hard would possibly cause him to shut hard like a clam and for some reason Luminescence wanted Hywel to trust him, to help him. Hywel had been through alot and it seemed he needed someone to look after him as he had looked over others.

The tom turned to him with a small smirk, amusement in his expression. "Honestly, it's kind of silly now, but they said it was like...a giant lizard...it could swim and it had fins like the fish did, except it had a long neck and a tail, and it would eat the shrubs and trees whole. The stories said that when its head was in the water, its body would look like an island. Imagine that, a lizard the size of an island! I can't even imagine. It'd be terrifying, even if it didn't eat cats like us."
He chuckled to himself. It was such a silly story, he couldn't even imagine anything so big. He had seen the cows in fields and the humans in their big stone dens, but a living creature bigger than that? That was impossible. He couldn't even imagine it.
"Did your mother tell you any ridiculous stories when you were a kit?"
Post by ashestoashes on May 26, 2020 15:46:36 GMT -5
The tom paused for a moment to think, then remembered a story his mother told him. "She once told me of a creature that would hunt you at night if you didn't find shelter befoee the stars shome in the sky. The creature would have long ears to hear yoi, a twitchh nose to scent you, long feet to help him run and jump, and red eyes that would make you paralyzed on spot. The monster truly scared me until my father told me, once I was much older, that the monster I was so afriad of was actually a rabbit. I guess when I was little I ran into one and it scared me silly, but since I was so little that I couldn't remember it on my own and I was a rather headstrong kit my mom used that story to get me into bed for the night. It worked, I never stayed out past twilight until I could defend myself."
Remembering the story was both a little bit embarrassing but most definitely funny and he could help but laugh at himself a bit about it.

Hywel's face split into a grin. Okay, that was pretty funny. "Can't believe you were scared of a rabbit," he teased, before shaking his head in amusement. That was the sort of thing he could imagine himself pranking Rhiannon with. She would've totally fell for it too back in the day; she'd fall for anything when she was a kitten. "I could imagine," he replied with a chuckle, "guess only the headstrong ones can survive the wild, to be honest, but I almost regret not coming up with something like that to trick my sister when we were younger."
He shook his head, the smile still on his face. "Glad there aren't any predatory rabbits out there though," he smirked, "but I guess if there were, you'd be the most prepared for it."

"I'd like to think I'd be a pro at taking them down." Luminescence pretended to act like a tough cat but ultimately failing as his small stature made him look even more younger than what he was.
A slight splashing sound suddenly occured just to the right of the felines, snapping the tom's attention to it. "Out of curiosity Hywel what are your fishing skills like? If its not rude to ask would you mind showing me whatcha got? After all you did see my secret stealthy hunting move back there." The grey and white tom gave Hywel a quick wink, light green eyes shining in the moonlight.

He laughed at that. Taking down rabbits took skill, especially for smaller cats. He wasn't large, though his thick coat would say otherwise, but even he had trouble sometimes. Rabbits were fast and bigger than the average prey, but certainly, they'd be able to catch one if it was chasing them instead.
He glanced up to the sound, looking to the lake. Fish huh? "I'm not bad," he chuckled, "caught a few before but nothing too crazy. We only fished occasionally back home, in the summers. It was too cold most of the year to go around soaking wet."
He headed towards the lake, tail lashing in a gesture to follow. "Have you ever fished before?"
Post by ashestoashes on May 30, 2020 15:14:54 GMT -5
"Rarely, while I'm not exactly the worst I'm not the best either. I've equally missed as much as caught...its a skill I hope to improve on while being here." Luminescence wasn't sure what exactly he was doing wrong and when he was by himself couldn't fix it for that reason. Now that he was in a group with experts he could potentially fix whatever error he was doing.
Seeing the water ripple with the prey below put the tom in hunting mode, tail swishing with hunting excitement.

He chuckled. "It's a bit more difficult than catching prey, I have to agree," he mused, "they're just so slippery, not to mention sometimes their smell." He gave the other cat a grimace. "I mean, they're fine when you're eating but you leave them out for a little longer than usual and they make your fur stink." He wasn't prissy or high maintenance, but hey, he had standards. He shrugged. "Still, good to learn if you ever get stuck on an island or something." He gave the other tom a cheeky wink, humor in his expression.
His tail lashed once as they padded down to the lake, the grass getting damp under his paws. "I think the hardest bit is just keeping a hold on the fish," he hummed, "I know a lot of cats use their paws, but it's a lot easier if you use both paws and teeth; more grip, you know?"
Post by ashestoashes on Jun 1, 2020 16:28:45 GMT -5
"Actually that makes sense to me...and that would make things easier as far as catching them goes. I've ever only caught small fish on just luck alone so I have no clue how big a real fish can get, just only from what I've heard." Thinking for a moment Luminescence added," And I don't blame you there, who wants a pelt that smells? It'll be under your nose all day and just be a nuisance." The thought of a smelly fish pelt brough a shutter through him, he made that mistake once when he was young and wouldn't be forgetting it anytime soon.

He shrugged. The question was one Hywel couldn't answer. "I've only ever caught smaller fish," he admitted, "but...I've seen ones that are big...like, bigger than a cat even." He laughed, knowing how unbelievable his story must be. "I mean, I didn't catch it–I don't think I could, even if I had my claws on a fish like that, but I've seen them before, up north. I think the humans were trying to catch them with their long cobweb strands, you know? It was weird, I thought I was dreaming."
He laughed lightly at the memory, before shaking his head. "I don't think we'll see fish that big around here, they always said the animals up north grew bigger. Still, we can try catching a normal sized fish." He looked around at the glimmering surface of the water. "We should go in front of the moon though; don't want our shadows telling the fish we're there."

(Ah I thought it was night time for the hunt but I really like the idea of them having been out all night and the sun came up, helping them fish in the morning's day light!)
The thought of fish that big sounded insane to Luminescence but not farfetched, after all he had seen things that he never thought existed or saw before. Loving the idea of fishing right now the small tom got up and followed Hywel's lead, watching how he walked and held himself. The warrior followed the same movement's he saw, light on his paws and away from the light.

(omg wHOOPS sorry I totally forgot LMFAO rip sorry I can change it to the moon LOL)
He crouched by the water, the light waves of the lake lapping at his paws. His bright eyes glimmered in the faint light, darting left and right at the waters below, when he suddenly lunged, claws and teeth meeting a slippery creature and yanking it out of the water towards the banks. For a second, the fish slipped from his paws, its shining scales made for a difficult grip, but Hywel quickly pounced, trying to prevent it from slipping back into the water, teeth meeting its head with a crunch.
Looking up, his fur was soaked from the water, and he gave the other tom a sheepish laugh. "Guess I'm a bit out of practice too," he chuckled.
