There was a small scurry of feet as the mouse ran a few paces just to pause to nibble on some food it had found. The hunter watched from a distance, his light green eyes being the only thing showing in the night. He held still on haunches, not allowing his excitement to scare away his prey. He slowly stalked the creature, daring to getting just a bit closer. The mouse stood up on its hind legs then ran away from its spot. Luminescence gave chase, his grey and white patched fur becoming a blur as he chased his prey. The tom maybe smaller in size than most other toms but he made up for it in his speed. He was a vivacious cat to which was a plus side to have during hunts and on a rare occasion fights. The mouse had almost found freedom when Luminescence pounced on it, flung it into the air, and finished it in one quick movement. He sat his catch down feeling proud of getting a little bit of prey to Moonclan.

Hywel was meant to be hunting really, but hey, the day he did as he was told was the day he'd die...probably. It wasn't that he didn't want to hunt, it was just...the thought of it felt almost a little tedious. Still, he thought, stretching his long limbs as he continued through the forests, it was better being out here than stuck in the camp. It had been raining plenty this week, but on days with clear skies, all he wanted to do was to enjoy the breeze and the quiet as much as he could before things inevitably became more chaotic. That was just how life was; the peace and clear skies rarely stayed long.
The moon was high up, and he took a moment to turn his blue gaze upwards, when he heard a rustle in the trees. Huh, so he wasn't the only one. Expecting it to be some sort of rabbit or squirrel, he ducked by the bushes, ears lifted, opening his mouth slightly to taste the air better. What he didn't expect was for another cat to come barreling in moments after, quickly flinging a mouse into the air and catching it with a triumphant grin. Huh, consider him impressed.
"Nice catch," he offered, now sitting up, head tilted curiously to the newcomer. He was still rather horrible with names. "I'm Hywel by the way....don't think we've met yet."

Luminescence was mildly surprised to see the tom coming up to him, why hadn't he noticed before? Luckily for him this feline was from Moonclan and so he relaxed rather quickly. "I'm Lumine...ahh wait my new name is Luminescence. I have only been in the clan for a few short days and don't know anyone yet, so I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't seen me yet. Are you from the clan yourself or did you join like me?" The tom cocked his head to the side in a rather curious but friendly way. It was nice to be able to talk to someone who was friendly like this. Not to say that the others weren't kind to him but rather cautious and always seemed too busy to talk or get to know him.

From the way Luminescence introduced himself, Hywel almost thought there was a story behind the new name, but then again, it wasn't really his place to ask. It was always nice to know he wasn't the newest character in a group–maybe because when things inevitably went wrong, he wouldn't be the first to blame, he thought in the back of his head, before pushing that thought away. They weren't in the village anymore, and MoonClan had been kind to their arrival yet; he had no reason to doubt them. Still, it was nice, knowing that there were others just as confused and uncertain as he was.
"I think I only joined a moon before you did," Hywel's whiskers twitched in amusement, his voice still carrying the faint accent of a foreigner from the north, "have you gotten used to the darkness yet? I don't think I'll ever be fully nocturnal...I don't know how the others do it to be honest. I still wake up earlier than the others because I miss the sun."
Post by ashestoashes on May 6, 2020 21:05:53 GMT -5
Luminescence picked up on the accent and wondered just how far away had this cat lived before joining Moonclan. He himself came from far away, and yet unsure just how far away home had been. Didn't matter as this was his new home and he would be fine here. "Yes and no, before I joined my sleep schedule was rather erratic. Sometime I would be awake during the days or sometimes during the nights. While I do miss the sun at the same time I am happy to have some sort of schedule in hand and leaves me feeling less tired."
Hywel intrigued Luminescence but was polite and kept any questions he had merely at the tip of the tongue, however he did ask one thing to the rather kind tom. "I'm still new to the area and only know a few places around here. Is there a nice hang out spot for us to relax in? This area is nice for hunting and all but I am rather curious just what Moonclan all has."

The other tom grinned at that. Erratic schedules, he could relate to. It wasn't like being constantly on the road gave him a daily routine back in the day, but in a sense, he almost missed it. To not be obligated to anyone other than his sister and himself, he could come and go as he pleased. After all, it was Rhiannon's idea to join MoonClan more so than his own. He was just here for the ride. Hywel gave a thought to the other tom's words, humming to himself.
"I'm not super familiar with everything yet," he replied, an almost sheepish smile on his face, "but personally, I think the lake and the moors are my favorite spots, though it's probably because it reminds me of where I came from. The breezes and the views are nice though." In a good way, he would've added. There were plenty of things he was happy to forget, but staring at the reflection of stars upon a quiet lake? Seeing the night sky in all of its glory? That never got old.
Post by ashestoashes on May 6, 2020 21:24:59 GMT -5
"That's understandable," replied the small tom and then added,"I have heard of the lake but haven't seen it yet. Is it close by any chance? I wouldn't mind seeing it and we maybe able to find some prey along the way if your interested." Hopefully Luminescence wasn't pushing his luck but to have a real conversation and enjoying the presence of this fellow clan member was refreshing. Not to mention it was such a nice night to be out in it would be a waste to not enjoy the time while he could. Luminescence never really got the chance to enjoy the time on the road too much but there were some pleasant memories he could at least say he had before finding this place.

A slow smile appeared on the tom's face, and he looked genuinely pleased. It wasn't that MoonClan was unfriendly, but most of the others stayed in their established circles. He was an outsider, and other than perhaps Avette, he hadn't made as much progress with 'getting into the clan.' Years of being on the road did that to a cat, he supposed, but to have something to do other than his standard hunt-border patrol-duties was a nice breather. Companionship other than his sister was...rare, to say the least.
"Sounds like fun," he offered, already moving towards the direction of the moors, his paws carrying him naturally to where he spent the most time. "So...where did you come from by the way? You're new here so you must've lived somewhere before joining, right? I always wanted to know what else is out there besides where I've already been, of course."

Feeling happiness burst inside of him Luminescence couldn't hide his smile as he leapt to his paws. He didn't know just how long the path was but all the same was happy to get to learn more of the layout of this new and foreign home. The tom thought for a moment before answering the question. "I came from far away from here. I was born to a mother I can't really remember but was sent home with some humans. They weren't all that bad at first but they suddenly got angry with me when I started to become playful, I didn't understand why they were that way but eventually they put me in this box of sorts and we went somewhere away from their den. It felt like days being in that thing but eventually we stopped. They sat the box down with me in it and left. I was scared at first, no older than a few moons old. There were times I was almost eaten by bigger predators and some intense storms as well. There were some good times I have to admit, like when I came across a pack of birds that sounded funny. I tried to scare them but they charged after me, and were something fierce. At first I was embarrassed but looking back its kinda funny I let such a loud honking bird spook me. I don't know exactly how long I have been out on my own but found this place eventually. The home I had with the humans were loud at times, like the sound of cars or sirens or even when something was being played on their loud box. I do have to admit though it's nice not having to worry about being eaten, sick, or injured all alone without help. I mean I am on the smaller side and could have been easy prey to dogs and such. How about yourself? How far were you from here before joining?"

Hywel was used to cats not being open about themselves, but to hear Luminescence's story...he shuddered at the thought of being left out in the woods without even the ability to fend for himself. He had been a year old when he left his home, but he knew how to fight. He knew how to hunt. Being sheltered with the humans and to just be abandoned like that? It struck a chord in him, and he could feel his jaw clench at that. It wasn't so different from their father, he supposed, though he'd never be able to joke about it as freely as this tom did. The past just...remained in the past. He didn't dwell on it like Rhiannon would.
The tom hesitated as Luminescence's question interrupted his thoughts. "Oh, me?" he spoke, glancing at the other cat, "my home was up north, by the loch where Herne once hunted." His smile was friendly, despite his earlier, agitated state. "It's quite a long way, my sister and I left when she was six moons old, and we've been traveling ever since, but we stopped here recently, and you know, she's intrigued by the clans so I'm here to stay...at least for a while. I'm sorry to hear what happened to you though; it must've been difficult, adjusting to everything all at once."
Post by ashestoashes on May 6, 2020 22:13:56 GMT -5
"It was definitely a challenge but I like to think I came out stronger from it. Sure the humans weren't all that great but they at least did one thing right: they gave me freedom. I never realized how suffocating it was to be a kittypet till I left. I mean yeah they were most definitely horrible to have left me to defend for myself when I had no knowledge of anything but at the same time I could now do things that I dreamed of doing without being shouted at. Or things being thrown at me. Out here you can run until your tired or claw up anything you wish, even if its sometimes a struggle to get food at least it tastes better than whatever it was they were feeding me. I guess I would say its a blessing in disguise."
Luminescense listened to what Hywel said, not having noticed Hywel's behavior had changed when he was talking to him. The north sounded very interesting to the tom, and everyday he was learning the worlds was a bigger place than he expected. "That's cool your staying in the clan for your sister, and from the way you talk you guys sound very close." He wished one day he could have someone call him family, but for now Luminescence was happy to see other cats having wonderful and caring family members around them.

He nodded at that with a sort of understanding. The tom could relate, after all; as much as he hated his father, he had come out stronger after leaving. The village he had grown up in had been suffocating too, the other superstitious fools constantly nagging about how everything was bad luck or against what the Green One decreed. He hated it, and the first moment he could, he left. The idea of not being able to decide his own fate, to pick the path in his crossroads felt suffocating to him just the same.
"I have to admit, the idea of being only indoors must've been difficult," Hywel commented, "I can't imagine not being able to go where I please."
When Luminiscence spoke again, Hywel's expression turned into an amused smirk. "I suppose it sounds nice, but Rhiannon's a brat maybe 90% of the time, and she has a habit of clawing others when you wake her up fro her naps," he chuckled, before glancing towards the distance in an almost wistful expression, "but I guess she's the only one I have left, and we traveled together for so long, I'm still not used to living with other cats...you know, other than her. We never really stayed anywhere for too long, at least not until here."
Post by ashestoashes on May 6, 2020 22:42:25 GMT -5
Luminescence was thoughtful with his next words. "Yup, you definitely sound like siblings to me, but I know if trouble ever came to her you would be there in a heartbeat. I mean it sounds like she has had you for all of her life and you are all she knows. I can also imagine that well...you must have been very lonely with it just being you two and you being older than her. I mean I know what it's like to not have any cat at all, but to not have one who could relate to you must have been difficult. Well I am glad you guys settled here for a good while, not a bad place to be in for sure. I think I'll like it better here once I get to know some of the other cats...when they stop being so suspicious of me. I mean what am I gonna do? Jump up and so boo! Ptsh I couldn't even scare a rabbit!"
The small tom chuckled at his own stupid joke before adding,"They can't stay suspicious of us forever...right? They'll come to accept us at some point I'd imagine..." In truth all Luminescence wanted was someone he could call a friend and place to call his own. He'd do anything for something like that.

Hywel knew the other tom was trying to make him feel better, but the fact that he just...got it kind of scared him. His own problems were his own, and he'd never expect anyone to fix that for him. Part of him had already settled, that at the end of the day, they were all trying to survive and if that meant giving up everything to make sure what remained of his family was safe...he'd accept it. It was lonely; there were certain things he didn't even tell Rhiannon. She had been too young at first, and then after a while, he just didn't really want to bring it up. He was always protecting the younger cat, and that was that. His tail lashed uncomfortably, though it didn't quite show on the impassive mask of his face.
The tom let out an inaudible sigh of relief when Luminescence moved on from the topic. Better to talk about MoonClan than his past, at least. "Yeah, hopefully they won't," Hywel agreed, "I mean, I'm sure there are outsiders like us in higher positions around here. Not everyone's pureblood MoonClan. Pretty sure I've chatted with a few outsiders like us." He smirked. "Maybe we could form a club if we find more."
Post by ashestoashes on May 7, 2020 21:40:50 GMT -5
"Heh I like the idea of a club, we could be the misfits of Moonclan," the thought was rather funny in itself. Hywel sure had a good sense of humor to him. Even as they talked Luminescence wondered what this cat had seen and experienced in his own life. Luminescence had heard of stories from other non pureblooded Moonclan felines, every one of them having vastly different backgrounds. He heard horror stories, heart wrenching tales, and sometimes even surprising starts to life. No two cats had the same story but Luminescence never got the courage to really ask anyone what life was like for them. He only heard things in passing, but nothing about Hywel. It seemed this cat had some mystery to him, yet Luminescence would be polite and not dig too deep. After all they only just met one another.
Luminescence tried to start up conversation again but couldn't find the right thing to say to bring discussion back up.

Hywel grinned at that. "We really could be," he chuckled, "I think our lovely archbishop would do well with our ragtag group, eh? She's not from here either, from what I know." Of course, they were quite different, even among the outcasts, but Hywel didn't mind that. Scrappy cats who found their way through? They were all different, yes, but all the same too. They were survivors, and that's what mattered, right?
The silence settled, and he could sort of tell the other tom wanted to chat, but small talk was...small talk. He glanced up; the moors were in sight but still a distance away. "So I'm guessing you're a fast learner then?" he offered, eyes turned to Luminescence, "I mean, for a cat to live with the humans...and to suddenly be thrown into this kind of world...not a lot survive, you know? You must be a pretty good hunter, or fighter, if you've wrestled with the other groups before."
Post by ashestoashes on May 7, 2020 22:20:16 GMT -5
The grey and white tom felt his fur warm up slightly from the kind compliment...he sure wasn't used to those and he hoped it didn't show in his face or body language. He tried to play it cool as he responded. "I guess you can say that...I honestly haven't bumped into other cats save a barn cat before joining the group. I don't have a clue how that worked out but I got lucky in that regard that is. There had been a dog that had hunted me down most of the journey but eventually he met his end during a storm." Luminescence would have to remember to tell that story sometime in the future.
"Actually I had been on my own for quite a few moons when I found the old cat. His name was Jasper and if he was here would be considered councilor age. However he was surprisingly fast on his paws for such an older cat. It was because of him I learned to hone in my skills...he assured me I was doing just fine without him but wanted to let me leave with some wisdom. I think he was just being nice and trying to not letting me feel discouraged. I tried to convince him to come with me but he wouldn't budge. Ah well I bet he is doing just fine on his own..." Lost for a moment in his thought the tom wondered how his old friend was and felt a twinge of sadness hit him. It was rather fast but let it was off him quickly. He would always miss the old guy but one day he might see him again.
"Aaah sorry about that, I hope I haven't been talking too much...its just nice to be able to talk with someone and just socialize. Be open about stuff." Luminescence felt somewhat sheepish at this.

Hywel chuckled at the other tom's story. Dogs were honestly the devil sometimes. The ones in human villages were usually tied back–the small yappy little things weren't as dangerous as they seemed–but the ones outside? He grimaced at the thought of them, vicious creatures with gleaming teeth and drooling tongues. They had encountered a few of those on their way here too. "Dogs are nasty," he sighed, "honestly, I never understood why they kept those nasty creatures."
A mentor figure, ah. That made sense; after all, he had been a mentor figure long before he realized what that even meant. It seemed like they had a close bond though, and Hywel wondered where the other cat would've been. Not fallen to some terrible fate, perhaps? He felt relieved when it was just a simple disagreement; not everything needed a sad ending, it seemed. "I mean I'm sure he'd be proud of where you are now," he chuckled, "but I get why he'd want to stay on his own. It's...difficult to adjust to living with a group again."
He shook his head with a smile as the other cat apologized. "Don't worry about it," he chuckled, "it's a nice change of pace. Usually I'm stuck listening to Rhiannon ramble about whatever she's going on about, or trying to convince other cats I'm not a threat. It's nice to listen to someone else's story for a change, you know?"
Post by ashestoashes on May 10, 2020 2:35:51 GMT -5
"Well I appreciate the ear you have lent me, and vice versa if you ever need someone to talk to...its a rather therapeutic feeling and sometimes needed." Luminescence by this point felt that he could trust this tom easily. He couldn't explain why he trusted this cat but indeed he did, and hopefully he could get Hywel to trust him in return too sometime. As a matter of fact at this point the grey white tom felt that they were at least good acquaintances or perhaps (in his hopes) on the starts to true friendship.
This night was indeed a night worthwhile, he had caught some prey (and perhaps hoped to catch more before the nights end) and might have just made a friend within the clan...maybe the great Goddess Selene did exist after all and with her help was why all of this had happened. If so he would be eternally grateful for all of this (plus having stayed alive thus far as well.)

(omg i'm so sorry I thought i replied to this)
He smiled softly at that. "Maybe one day," he replied, though it was clear that he didn't fully believe in his words, "I guess my past is just...complicated. It's not a bad complicated or anything...just...there's a lot I guess, that led me to here." It wasn't that he didn't trust the other cat, no, the other cat seemed trustworthy enough. It was just...everything was a calculated risk, and if this risked anyone finding the truth, it wasn't really worth it.
"So were you out here on a hunting patrol, or just brushing up your skills?" he asked, trying to move the conversation to something lighter.
