Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
"Smokepaw! No!" She exclaimed under her breath but it was too late, the apprentice had disappeared. Eveningpaw sighed and shook her head. "Any kind of distraction will work. We just have to make a ton of noise to get their attention. When they start to chase us, that's when we escape. But we need to makes sure we know our escape route. We want this to be safe and effective."

Goldenphantom knew of Smokepaw's cowardice. He was in her battalion after all. She had already spent a lot of time trying to ease him into things. But it looks like none of it was working. "Smokepaw. Come back, you don't know..." Goldenphantom yelled under her breath, but he was gone before she could do anything. But the rustle he left felt deafening in his wake felt deafening, like the whole forest was suddenly staring at them. Watching them. She looked back over, and sure enough, the foxes had their ears pricked up. Listening. She could swear their gazes cut right through the bush but they didn't move. "...what's out there." For all she knew, Smokepaw could easily run into the jaws of another fox. And then...
"Climb up the trees. Both of you. And don't come down till I or another Dayclan member say so." For as stern as her voice sounded, she ended it on a laugh. A quick, breathless one. She could already see where this was going, but her paws were tied now.
"What? We're not leaving you. One cat cannot take on a family of Foxes. Either we all climb up together or we fight this together." Eveningpaw responded, defiantly.
Sootpaw stood beside the other two she-cats, expressionless. She swiveled her head from Goldenphantom to Eveningpaw, trying to decide her own response. She wasn't one to outright disrespect orders, but she also didn't want the other apprentice to look better than her if she climbed the tree. She stayed frozen and silent, waiting for her mentor's reply before moving.

Goldenphantom took a small step back, admittedly not expecting the back lash. Her gaze flicked to the fox family briefly before turning to her apprentices. Eveningpaw was right. There was no way she was gonna be able to take them on by herself. But that wasn't the goal, and the two needed an explanation.
“I need to go make sure Smokepaw is okay before we continue the mission. And I don't intend to fight the foxes myself. But they might hear me and follow after me. My plan was to have you two wait here while I make sure he's okay. I won't tell you know if you want to come with me though.”
A shrug and almost a yawn if it hadn't have been rude, then Sootpaw sat down. "Whatever you think is best." It was Goldenphantom's decision and she would follow it no matter own preference.

She didn't bring it up. Spending a few moons training a small group of apprentices let you see all their quirks. Goldenphantom considered if Sootpaw should be more concerned about her brother, but she was an only child. Raised to worry about herself first. Her feelings were familiar enough. "Then we'll all go. The rabbit corpse will still be here." The tabby opened her mouth to try and find his scent, but was overcome with the strong smell of fox. "Smokepaw ran off in this direction. Follow me, but keep your ears open."
Sootpaw rose to her paws once again and finally offered something to the conversation. Her earlier nonchalance had accidentally implied she supported retrieving her brother and she needed to fix that. "I'm sure Smokepaw's back in camp by now. Let's just stay and take care of this problem instead." Really, he was just going to get in the way or ruin things worse than he already had. And they'd already traveled all this way, too. "I'll follow you, but I think backtracking may be the wrong thing to do."

Goldenphantom had started off in a quick trot, ears swiveling behind her as Sootpaw spoke up. There always seemed to be some dissonance between the siblings, and the Immortal Council member tilted her head as she spoke. It was contradictory to her instincts, it felt like every second Smokepaw wasn't in her sight, he could be off getting hurt. "I get that, but we can't be sure he's safe until we see him for ourselves. If it's a concern though, we can try and grab the rabbit corpse before going off." She hoped that might appease her. Kill two birds with one stone. Not that Goldenphantom minded the backtrack. But she could also see other foxes following Smokepaw back to camp, and her heart would compress in her chest.
She conceded to this new idea. "Yes, let's try to get the rabbit first." Sootpaw was getting antsy with this plan, and she knew that her brother would be long gone by now, safe in camp or up in a tree somewhere. There were more important things to worry about than that one scaredy-cat.
