"Good morfing, Fothbaye, I hof you awre doin well!" Oakshade made his way over to the former High Priestess with a plump and juicy young rabbit in his jaws, freshly caught mere moments ago toward the end of his hunting patrol. He had been planning on giving it to his sister, Mapledawn, but decided to switch up his plans when he saw Foxbane sunbathing alone in the middle of camp. She really was a beautiful cat even though her auburn fur was faded and she looked a bit worse for the wear. He could see the resemblance between her and Tinymunity, they had the same eye shape and could be twins if they were both frowning, as they so often did. He was hoping to change that in both of their cases.
Oakshade sat the piece of prey at Foxbane's paws then settled down next to her, quickly making himself comfortable by stretching out as far as his legs could reach. He flashed his snowy white underbelly at her and then rolled onto his back with his skull planted firmly on the sandstone beneath him. MoonClan cats were really missing out: Sunbathing was the best. He laid like that for a few moments then rolled onto his side to face Foxbane, an easy smile on his face as always. Most Clans demonized her and it was true that she had done some terrible things, but Oakshade had only ever known her as a doting mother. He trusted her. Maybe that was a mistake, but this tom believed in his gut instincts over gossip and rumors, "I wanted to ask you something, if you have the time."

It absolutely was a mistake to trust Foxbane. Some cats who'd never met her simply assumed the stories were exaggerations, but they'd be wrong. No matter how horrific the accusation, even the most exaggerated lie probably wasn't far from the truth. And the truth was probably worse, in all honesty. There was a reason for her reputation, and one would be smart to never get too comfortable, even if they were friends and family.
At this current moment, she didn't look quite so dangerous. She was quite obviously pregnant, which wasn't unusual for her. Foxbane had lots of kits. Her white underbelly lay in shadow as her auburn back with it's white electric markings struck across her pelt, the eye zodiac drawn just behind her right shoulder. Her ear twitched at the first sound of the tom's voice, though she didn't turn her head to him or open her eyes until his request. At the notion, her fox-face moved, lids lifting to reveal an ivy gaze that positively danced with danger and mischief, as though Oakshade had walked right into a trap. "Trouble in paradise?" A slow smirk curled up on her maw, showing the slightest peek of fangs as she watched him with an unwavering sort of stare, waiting expectantly.
"Not exactly," Oakshade replied as he straightened himself up a bit, suddenly a bit more self-conscious about himself than he had been a few moments earlier. Not because of the danger that read clear as day on Foxbane's face, no, but because of the weight of the question he was about to ask. His impulsive decision to speak with her had tricked his nerves for awhile but now that the stage was all his he felt like he had a frog in his throat. The brown and white tom puffed out his chest ever so slightly and put his paws on the ground firmly in front of him - he really was having a hard time holding still - then bowed his head respectfully to Foxbane, "I don't know if SunClan has this tradition... and, honestly, it's sort of fallen out of favor in MoonClan too, but... I just want to do things right." He was stalling, why was he stalling? Oakshade let out a shaky breath then looked back to Foxbane's mystifying green eyes, "I would like your blessing to be mates with Tinymutiny."

Foxbane leaned up at the question, her piercing gaze fixed on him for a long moment as the smirk widened into a too knowing smile. "Maybe I should rethink my decision. Clearly, you're too much of an idiot to be my daughter's mate." The insult was delivered swift and sharp, and it was hard to tell if she was joking or entirely serious. Perhaps it was a bit of both. "I hope you know that if Tinymutiny finds out about this, you're as good as dead. She'll kill you." There was a hint of laughter into her tone now, but she seemed a bit more pointed with the comment, as though speaking from the heart.
"Oh, no, you don't want to ask me that question, I guarantee you. My daughter rather hates me at this very moment, and I should think that if she finds out then I'm not the only one going to be on her kill list." Her voice was just soft enough to be only heard by them, though her amusement, even as she suggested her child was out to kill her, and potentially the tom before her. Frankly, it was a bit disturbing, the ease with which she suggested such an idea.
"Haha, you're right, I'm an idiot..." Oakshade had not been expecting a response like that and lowered his head though this time as a submissive gesture. He had thought of this question as a formality at best. After all, Tinymuntiny had told him that Foxbane had drug him to SunClan for her benefit. In moments of stress, though, Oakshade almost always yielded to the strongest personality in the room. He didn't care to make mountains out of molehills. Too messy. That being said, he really had to put up a fight to win Tinymutiny over, but perhaps it was a testament to his compliant nature that he still didn't share a nest with her. He had to fight two battles every time he interacted with her.
He wasn't quick to gloss over Foxbane's mention of murder, though. He knew that if Tinymutiny wanted him dead she had had plenty of changes to kill him. However, it was also true that he had never really had a conversation with Foxbane. Was the situation between these two cats really so bad that blood would be spilled as collateral damage? Oakshade had always disregarded Tinymutiny's warnings about her mother. After all, the silver she-cat had told him frequently that she was bad, too, and he knew that to be a lie. Yet... that look in Foxbane's eyes, that eerie tone of her voice. Hearing it from both sides made it more real for him. He wasn't dissuaded but he knew he needed to tread more carefully, "...and this idiot is hopelessly in love with your daughter. I just want what's best for her and if I am going to be part of your family someday I would like to be on good terms with you." He lifted his head up now, his hazel eyes more serious than Foxbane had likely ever seen them, "So, I'll ask again: Do I have your blessing?"
"Everything I've done has been to force you two together. If I didn't want you to be mates, I would have killed you back during all that NovaClan business." Foxbane answered, raising a brow at him as though that were the most obvious thing. "But like I said, Tinymutiny hates me. Being on good terms with me right now is the last thing you want, unless you intend to try and win her over for me, but I didn't think you were quite that manipulative." She spoke about manipulating her own daughter into her good graces as though it were nothing, and despite her commenting on attempting to get them together, the ex-Priestess still seemed like she might kill him at any moment, if he just annoyed her enough to do it.
Oakshade felt like he was up the creek without a paddle. Foxbane was just as direct as she was obscure and he couldn't get a read on her. Was she happy? Was she annoyed? The way she tiptoed around his simple request only left him with more questions. It seemed that she gave approval just now, but did she really? No wonder so many cats avoided her. Every word that left her mouth was like a claw against his throat. Oakshade himself wasn't easily offended but Foxbane's the accusation that he was up to anything other than good intentions struck a nerve, "I don't have any ulterior motives. I'm not trying to gain power or impress you or anything like that. I just believe in family. It tears me up to see how much Tinymutiny hates you and I don't want that negativity in her life anymore. It's like the ship is sinking and you are the anchor holding her in place. For such a strong cat she is surprisingly fragile and..." I think you're the one to blame for that. He cut himself before he complete his thought.
