Twisterpaw was officially an apprentice, even if he was still covered in a layer of kit fluff. The tom had so far seen the territory, caught a bird, and learned a few battle moves. All in all, he was liking his new position. But it didn't cure the loneliness he felt. The tom was still without his prince, without any real friends except Wispypaw and Roachpelt, and he often found himself moping at the lack of transformation in that aspect of his life.
This morning he was, again, moping. Sitting down near the nursery with his collection of feathers, a half eaten mouse, and a melodramatically tragic look on his face. It didn't help that he wasn't allowed to leave camp yet, he couldn't even get out in the territory and distract himself.
A pair of striking green eyes watched the apprentice curiously from the Nursery entrance. Grasskit was about two moons younger than the newly named Twisterpaw, and back when the two shared a den together, usually preferred to play around with his siblings and kits closer to his age. However, the little dark-brown and white tom couldn't help but feel curiosity upon seeing one of his denmates get promoted for the first time; what was being an apprentice like? Were you able to leave camp on your own? Could you hunt birds, or go to the clan border? Being an apprentice seemed so cool...
"Man, Twisterpaw is so lucky," he huffed under his breath. "I wish I was an apprentice. Then I'd be really cool too."

Twisterpaw was desperate for interaction, his boredom was beginning to eat at him, like morgan in quarantine. So when he spotted Grasskit, whom was only two moons younger, he bounded over. He heard just the end of what Grasskit said and waved his tail in greeting, "hi! What would make you really cool?" Maybe he could do it too.
"Being a clan apprentice, like you are!" Grasskit chirped, grinning as Twisterpaw bounded over to him. Despite having seen the other tom nearly every day of his life, it was like seeing him in a brand new light; it was like Twisterpaw was a warrior already! "I bet you get to do all sorts of awesome stuff! Have you learned how to hunt yet? Can you teach me?"

Twisterpaw was surprised by Grasskit's words, though delightfully pleased by the idea that he was now cool. He was finally an integral, needed, part of SummerClan. "Well," Twisterpaw allowed his voice to take on a slightly lofty tone, "I've caught a bird. It's no big deal, but my mentor told me it's hard prey to catch."
It was probably physically impossible for Grasskit's eyes to get any wider in awe of the apprentice, but bless his heart he tried. "Wow!" He squeaked, nearly nose-to-nose with Twisterpaw. "That's AMAZING! You're so cool, Twisterpaw! I wanna be a cool apprentice and catch a bird like you! Can you teach me? Can you? Can you? Can you? Pleeeaaaasssseeee?"

Twisterpaw looked unsure for a moment, worried he'd end up disappointing the younger cat, but he had already caught one bird. And he was doing well in training. So, why not? "Sure," he meowed, the confidence in his voice surprising even himself. "I can definitely teach you whenever you want."
"Yes!" Grasskit grinned brightly, bouncing on his toes for a moment before quickly running around the apprentice to stand at Twisterpaw's side, standing parallel to him. His tail waved excitedly behind him as he stared up at the older tom expectantly, ready to follow along with every motion Twisterpaw made. "I wanna learn how to hunt! Can you show me a hunting stance?"

"Um," Twisterpaw looked suddenly sheepish. He glanced around to be sure no one else was watching, just in case he embarrassed himself. "Sure, I guess I can do that. But just remember I'm still learning, 'kay?"
"Uh huh. Uh huh." Grasskit nodded eagerly, not really paying attention to what Twisterpaw was saying. To him, it didn't really matter that the slightly older tom had only been an apprentice for a moon, but that he knew more than Grasskit did, and could help him get better. Maybe if he started learning now, he'd one day be the best apprentice in the clan! Then everyone would be fawning over him! He'd be the coolest!
