so dawnmemories finds a small mirror and wants to show the kits, this comes from the fact that my foster kittens saw a mirror today and flipped out xD
Dawnmemories entered camp, carrying a twoleg object with her. The red warrior had found something strange and decided perhaps the kits might like it, it was seemingly harmless. The hard blue shell protected the shiny stuff, and it had surprised her when it acted like water and showed her her own reflection. Usually she wouldn't have brought a twoleg object back with her, but this one had seemed amusing. She set the object down outside of the nursery and called out to the kits, "I've got something to share with everyone!"
Bearkit was one of the first kits to appear, looking eager and excited. "What is it Dawnmemories? Is it prey? I haven't tried... um... vole yet!"

Redkit bust out of a pile of leaves she was hiding in and came running over. "Food?" she mewed. Then as she got closer she commented. "I don't smell any." Leaf fragments and dirt were still stuck in her fur.

"No," Dawnmemories informed the kits, whiskers twitching in amusement, "not food." She glanced at the object thoughtfully a moment before elaborating, simultaneously flicking bits of leaf off Redkit with her tail as she spoke, "it's more of a game."
Bearkit nodded, pleased by the new information, "okay, like mossball? Or hide and seek? I like mossball more."

"Hide n' seek!" Redkit mewed enthusiastically as she jumped around. "I'm good at that!" More leaf fragments fell off her red coat as she moved about. Then seemingly just spotting the strange object Dawnmemories had, she stopped her jumping and looked inquisitively at it. "What's that?"

"That's the game," Dawnmemories explained, "it's not hide and seek. This," she touched the object and looked at the kits intently, "is a twoleg object. It's harmless, but you must remember that most things from twolegs are dangerous, okay?"
Bearkit nodded grimly, he understood the dangerous of them and their monster, despite never having seen one, "yes, Dawnmemories. Can we see it now? Pwease?"

Redkit sobered up quickly at Dawnmemories' caution. She backed away a few steps but still was genuinely curious about the object. "Will it attack us?" she asked. Being a kit she didn't think some things out logically. But if she would have, she'd realized that the deputy would never bring anything thing dangerous into the camp, and especially show it to kits if any harm could come from it.

"Oh no, it's perfectly safe," Dawnmemories replied gently, "this seems to be something they give their kits as well." She didn't want to traumatize young Redkit, so she leaned down to lick the top of her head reassuringly, "I'll never put you in danger, Redkit. It's my job to keep you safe."
Bearkit understood why Redkit was nervous, but he couldn't help but be excited, sitting and staring at the object expectantly while the two she-cats talked.

Being reassured by Dawnmemories, Redkit seemed to perk up once again. "Thanks for doing that for us. I feel good when you're around." She looked back at the strange object. "Kittypets play with it? What does it do?" It didn't look like anything exciting like a moss ball or an insect. It just laid there. She looked over at Bearkit wondering what he thought. "Can we see it?"

Dawnmemories was surprised at the kit's kind words, her ears warmed and she let out a purr before Redkit asked to finally see the surprise. "I'm not sure what use it has, but it's quite fun." Pausing for dramatic effect, she pushed her paw under the object and flipped it in the grass, the shiny part was now exposed to the sky.
Bearkit cocked his head and crept forward, carefully looking over the object. It took him a second to look down at the shiny surface and he saw a cat staring back! He fluffed up his fur and pawed at the object, confused when he hit a hard surface instead of the soft fur of the cat in the ground. His tail lashed comically and he pawed at the face of the cat again, it was still covered by a hard material.

Alarmed at Bearkit's actions, Redkit's neck and tail fur fluffed out. "What's wrong? What is it?" she asked defensively. Then she crept forward and looked at the object. She was extremely surprised to see a red faced kit staring back at her. The thing Dawnmemories brought wasn't a just thing anymore, it was an opening in the ground that had a cat inside it! "Eeeee!" she squealed as she swatted at the strange kit. "There's a red kit in there!" She swatted the mirror again but was dismayed. There was something hard keeping her from the other kit. "I don't understand." She looked over at Bearkit with confusion in her eyes.
(When our first cat was just a kitten, he saw himself in our dresser mirror from our bed. He shot off the bed like lightning and charged into the bathroom. (The dresser sets by the door that goes into the bathroom.) He would do this several times. We didn't realize at first but later figured it out. He thought there was another cat and it was in the bathroom so he would zoom into the bathroom to find it!)

Bearkit was surprised to find that Redkit found a different cat trapped in the hard surface. He crept back to the mirror and looked, only to find himself peering down at two kits. And one looked like Redkit! "You... you have a twin!" Bearkit squeaked, shocked. He glanced back at the dismayed Redkit then back down at the dismayed twin.
Dawnmemories whiskers twitched in amusement as she watched the kits, happy to have given them something knew. In a moment she'd reassure them and teach them about their reflections, but for now she enjoyed watching them puzzle it out.
(That's adorable! I'm fostering 4 kittens and they saw a mirror for the first time recently, all of them freaked out. The momma cat looked incredibly unimpressed as they all fluffed up and attacked the mirror. The smallest kitten touched the mirror and then shot off under the bed like it had bitten her xD)

"I ... I don't understand," Redkit mewed, confusion clearly in her voice. "But that's your twin in there with the red one." She looked back at Bearkit and then back at the mirror. She gave it a tentative touch and was surprised the red colored kit did exactly the same thing! She jumped backwards then crept forward again, closer to the ground. With her face close to the mirror, she looked in again. "Eeeeee!" she squealed once more. "The red kit almost bit my nose!"
(That's too funny! I wish I could have seen that! )

( sorry it took so long! I'm finally getting back on track!)
Bearkit's fur fluffed up and he growled at the Redkit in the mirror, protective of his friend. But... but the Redkit seemed to be upset too. And his twin seemed just as protective as her. Strange... he cocked his head and so did the twin. "Can they hear us, Dawnmemories?"
"No," she responded, with an affectionate purr, "they can't hear you."
"Are they trapped? Can we help them?"
"No, they aren't trapped," Dawnmemories said in a reassuring voice.

(No worries! )
"But how did they get in that ... thing?" Redkit asked not knowing the word for the mirror laying in front of her. "And why don't they come out?" She stayed back from the mirror just in case the kits did come out of it.

Dawnmemories stood and moved towards the mirror so the kits could see her reflection as well, "see that cat?" She poked a paw at the red warrior looking at the mirror kits as she was looking at the real kits. "That's me."
"Yeah," Bearkit meowed, "it sure does look like you!"

"That doesn't make any sense," Redkit mewed with a confused look on her face. "You're here. How can you be there too?" She only had a vague concept of reflections having seen very few in her short lifetime and those being wavy and distorted. Mud puddles were like that. But this ... this thing wasn't water and the image looked crystal clear not at all like gathered rain water in a hole.
