Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The koi pond was located at the north border of DayClan’s land, farthest from the two-legs farm where the koi fish swam in little circles. The koi pond is a soothing place to feed the koi fish or even rearrange the ponds lily pads, stones, and other environmental items as you please.
Kinkedrose sat at the water's edge with a flower at her paws. Well, it wasn't fair to call in a flower, she had removed all of its petals and scattered them in the koi pond quite awhile ago. Originally she had been playing the "will he love me, will he love me not" game but she got nervous and ripped them all out before the conclusion. The DayClan she-cat glanced up at the sky and let out a very quiet sigh. He was late, but she wasn't so sure she was ready for him yet anyway.
Well, she certainly looked ready for a date: her silver fur was groom to perfection, her plummy red tail was smoothed down, she had even put pink carnations next to each of her ears. Kinkedrose was pureblood DayClan and looked it with her cute round face and folded-over ears. When Glowstar had asked if anyone was willing to go on a blind date, she had readily agreed, only to find out later that it would be with a WinterClan cat. It wasn't like she had a problem with them, no, it just filled her with a sense of dread that this pairing was destined to fail. Her last love, Thrushstar, had been a FallClan tom, and that had not ended well for either of them...
But it was time, she knew it. Kinkedrose had always wanted a family but hadn't been able to get close to any tom since her return to DayClan. She knew she could have been trying harder but her heart still hurt. This date was just the push that she needed to get out of her rut. Or so she hoped.
He had spent hours preparing for his day, but he's run into a small snag when he realized he had absolutely no idea where this mysterious pond was supposed to be. He figured 'koi' was probably a context clue, but he had no idea where koi grew or what they looked like, except presumably around water, and he still didn't know where to find a pond in the other clan's land. After hopelessly wandering around the territory he finally encountered a native tom that offered to lead him to the pond, and with a few light-hearted cruel jabs at Harlow's stupidity that made him feel horrible about himself and all of his life decisions, they set off.
But then there was a small issue with some brambles and a barking dog and an 'emergency situation' where his companion got distracted watching a hawk circle before deciding it was actually a kite, no a crow, maybe a thrush, and finally, he just excused himself to hurry the rest of the way on his own. But the koi pond drew into sight and he bounded over to meet the next love of his life.
"Hey, I'm Harlow, and I'm so so sorry," he apologized hastily, aware he must be quite late. He dipped his head and looked up with her with a crooked half-smile, embarrassed by the terrible introduction he was making. His thick dark fur stuck up in erratic plumes and complicated tangles and he felt like he must have left half of his pelt behind on a few of the bushes back there. He just had to hope his messy coat was somehow endearing.
Kinkedrose drew her paw up to her mouth to muffle a sweet, bell-like laugh. Harlow looked like such a mess with his fur was pointing every which way. She was pretty sure she even saw a few twigs stuck in his willowy pelt. He looked the part of a WinterClan tom but there was something boyish about him that she found very charming. Unlike her past flame, her first impression of Harlow was that of an easy-going tom with an honest smile. It was refreshing and she already had butterflies in her stomach.
"It's quite all right, I should have met you at the border. Even DayClan cats sometimes have trouble finding this place," She purred in a suave, rhythmic voice as padded over to him with a small curtsy. The pink carnations in her ears amplified her green eyes to the point that they were almost mystifying, dizzying, "I'm Kinkedrose. It's a pleasure to meet you, Harlow. Now, pardon me just for just a moment..."
She leaned forward and pulled a twig from his chest with a very light tug, then dropped it to the ground, "... you do know this is a date, right?" She teased, a grin on her face, "You're supposed to come groomed, but I guess it's hardly your fault with all that fur."
"that really isn't necessary," he tried to assure her, feeling a wave of guilt that she was going to come all the way to the border to fetch him, "I made it here anyway, and-and I wouldn't want you to get all dirty coming to get me... not that you wouldn't look good covered in dirt, some of my favorite cats are dirty, and- of course, you can make your own choices, I don't have a say in what you do, you can get as dirty as you want, oh-"
Finally coming to his senses, he trailed off and just stared dumbly into her warm eyes, entranced by the magic he found within them. Kinkedrose was such a pretty name, and she was so polite... he felt so inadequate standing in front of her. Really, what was he doing taking a chance like this? But he was used to being inferior, and it was almost comforting to have a familiar role again, something to ground him in this conversation. Seeing her made him fly, feel so weightless, but he felt too silly to say that, he sounded like some lovestruck apprentice.... which was not entirely inaccurate.... he was pretty sure he was already falling in love with her, and they had barely spoken.
He flushed as she removed the twig, glancing down at his chest and then back at her. "I-- yes! Of course, I swear I was all neat and tidy but I ran into some trouble and... oh, I should have stopped to clean up before meeting you once I got here, but I was worried about making you wait so long, I was already late. If you give me a moment, I can just go clean up and we can pretend this never happened? Please?
..... Your flowers are very pretty. By the way. Just saying. Like you."
Kinkedrose found his stream of consciousness style of conversation super cute, it was like reading a page in a book as it was being written. No revisions allowed. His words brought a smile to her face and she found herself giggling like a fool not all that long after he first opened his mouth. He was nervous, clearly. She wondered if he always spoke like this or if it was because he was very much out of his element. Kinkedrose soon realized that she had lost her composure and, now embarrassed, abruptly stiffled her lilting laughter. She didn't want him to think that she was mocking him but it was certainly easy to misconstrue her reaction in a situation like this. Kinkedrose herself was reserved in nature, she liked her privacy and was very articulate, but Harlow's open-heartedness seemed to drag her true, introverted self out in the open. The silvery she-cat hadn't felt quite this vulnerable in many, many moons.
"Thank you, Harlow. I also find you to be very handsome ... despite all the mess." She winked at him, "We are going to go fishing anyway, and for a very specific koi at that, so we will certainly both be soaking wet before all is said and done. I probably dolled up too much," Her very voice once again smooth like velvet, her eyes sparkling. She beckoned for him to follow her as she approached the water's edge. The small pond was bursting with fish of every color you could imagine, most of which had big orange spots on them, "They say that if you catch one with a heart-shaped patch that you will find your true love. Cheesy, right? But it's one of the reasons why this is such a popular date location."
She reached up and removed the carnations from her folded over ears and set them on the ground next to the twig she had removed from his pelt, "I don't suppose you do a lot of fishing in WinterClan, do you?"
(just give it a few minutes, I'm sure it'll stop being cute and start being annoying cx)
His cheeks reddened beneath his fur as she laughed at him. They had only just met and he was already making a fool of himself in front of this truly beautiful she-cat. I swear, once you get to know me, I'm really nice! he wanted to tell her, but he was too embarrassed to try speaking again. He was just going to make a fool of himself, and Harlow did enough of that already. Was it a bad idea to come here in the first place? Who was he to try and flirt with someone? It had taken him moons to work up the courage to talk to his first crush, just to talk with her, and almost immediately he had sworn she was the love of his life. He earnestly hoped he had been wrong because he had scared that she-cat off for good.
Harlow had nearly committed to just leaving for good when his mind caught up with what she had been saying to him. Wait... she thought he was handsome? He glanced down at his dark scruffy fur and smiled a little shyly. That was a very nice thing to say, he hoped she wasn't just lying to him out of kindness. But what was a little white lie between friends?
"N-no," he stammered to admit, his ears flopping down, "the water is really cold, and sometimes it's frozen over, like-like at the lake. So we don't... fish much... or at all. But I did once, back in--- well, I wasn't very good at it." He shuffled his paws, peering into the water worriedly. A heart-shaped patch on a fish, that sounded so dreamy, but what were the odds he could catch anything at all today? StarClan, guide my paws!
"Have you caught one of those heart fish yet?" he blurted out. It was impulsive and he immediately felt bad, but he had to know, was she just here out of pity, did she already have true love? "I-I mean, do you fish here often?"
