simplylight "Elpis-tyke, c'mere!" Philomela-tyke's voice was teasing as she tumbled out of her nest and onto the mossy ground of Post Kilo. Her chestnut pelt was well-groomed, but it was obvious by her actions that it wouldn't remain that way for long. "C'mon! I heard you can see eyes if you look out of the Post into the tunnels!"
"Don't be silly, Philomela," called Kallistrate-tyke, shaking her head with a smile. "The soldiers wouldn't let anything dangerous anywhere near Post Kilo. The only thing you'll see in the tunnels is darkness." Still, she carefully stepped out of the nest too and shook out her golden pelt, shimmering in the muted light of Post Kilo.
"Oh don't forget about me! I love a good gallivant!" Briar-tyke's british-accented voice rung out loudly through the tunnels. Could you blame her volume, her urgency? She saw a couple of other kits get up for an adventure and she very nearly was excluded! The auburn she-cat clambered out of her nest and fell flat on her face. Unphased, she quickly found her footing and joined the three other kits, "What did you know about the eyes?"

Philomela-tyke's eyes had narrowed at her sister's cynicism, but brightened when Briar-tyke came stumbling up. "Yeah, of course!" she purred, excited that someone else had taken in the interest in the eyes as much as she had. "I heard that they're narrow, like slits, and glow as red as blood." She put extra emphasis on the last word, hoping to send a shiver down Briar-tyke's spine but instead resulting in a muffle snort from Kallistrate-tyke.
Briar-tyke did shiver, but not from fear: She hung onto Philomela-tyke's words with anticipation. Her stoney gray eyes were bright and shining. She stamped her paw a couple times to expel some of her building energy, it was all she could do to hold still, "What do you think makes them glow like that? Do you think maybe it's the sun or a different kind of light?" Typical Briar-tyke, always more interested in figuring out how and why things happen than the subject itself.

"No, it's not any light...of this world," mewed Philomela-tyke with a sinister cackle, though she seemed to be scaring herself just a bit too. "I think it's the eyes of dead cats trapped in the tunnels, cursed to roam forever!" She almost shouted the last word, her voice rising and rising as she spoke. When she shouted, she made herself jump, causing Kallistrate-tyke to laugh under her breath.
"Cut it out, Philomela," she mewed after she stopped laughing, shaking her head. "You're scaring...Briar-tyke, right? You're scaring Briar-tyke half to death. She's gonna be sharing our nest tonight if we don't watch it, and I'm already sharing too much of my own side of the moss."
Briar-tyke didn't look fearful at all even when Philomela-tyke raised her voice. She just cocked her head a little bit, not sure what all the shouting was about, but her heart beat did quicken at the thought of solving the mystery of the glowing eyes, "Well, we better go and help them!" She squeaked, fluffing out her auburn fur, a mischievous grin on her face, "If they can get trapped down there then surely they can escape, too. There's always a backdoor! We just gotta find it!"

Philomela-tyke's expression screwed up as though she'd eaten something sour. Clearly, Briar-tyke wasn't reacting to her story the way she had hoped, leaving the she-kit to grasp about for some way to respond to the suggestion. "We can't leave Post Kilo, though," she mewed, clearly confident in the veracity of her claim. "It's against the rules." However, the longer she thought about it, the more excited she got. What if her story was true, what if those really were ghosts? And what if they really could free them? She bet Commander Shule would promote her to Mercenary Superior in an instant if she could! "But...I guess if no one knows about it, we could give it a try..." she allowed, voice thoughtful.
Kallistrate-tyke's eyes narrowed at Briar-tyke's suggestion, wondering if the she-cat would lead her younger sister into trouble, though Philomela was the one to bring up the eyes in the first place. She gave a resigned sigh when her little sister suggested exploring the eyes, knowing that wherever Philomela went, she would follow in order to keep her safe. The youngest she-cat of their litter was prone to bouts of fancy that often left her oblivious to danger and, if it wasn't for Kallistrate, she would be hurt more often than not.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Briar-tyke took off in the direction that the other types had indicated well before they had the change to respond. She didn't totally discount the idea that the eyes were spirits. Don't get her wrong, if they were, then she absolutely did want to free them. Realistically, though, there was probably some sort of outside source for this light. She had vague memories of her time in twolegplace where she observed tiny stars that had somehow been trapped and used to illuminate their nests and pathways. She really wanted to figure out how that worked so that she could bring the same light to the tunnels of the Regime, "Say, once we find the eyes, how to you think we should go about collecting them?"

{ { sorry it took so long to reply! } }
"Wait up!" cried Philomela-tyke, stumbling out of her nest in hot pursuit of Briar-tyke. She quickly lowered her voice, glancing over at the raisers quietly conversing a little ways away. "We can't just run out, they'll catch us in a second! We need a distraction." She looked around the tyke-proof Post Kilo, trying and failing to find something that would keep the raisers distracted long enough for them to slip out. She hadn't even considered how they would catch the eyes, or even what they would do with them after they collected them.
Kallistrate-tyke make sure Philomela was fine before following, her golden pelt rippling over developing muscles. It was clear what role the protective she-kit would take as she grew up, though at the moment she had no training to go with her innate instincts. "You guys are going to get caught," she muttered, dutifully trailing after both of them. She had gotten punished for going along with Philomela's antics before, and supposed this wouldn't be the last time it happened either.
(LOL 2 days is nothing for a slacker like me, how about two weeks?!?)
"Oh! Good point. How could I forget?" Briar-tyke came to an abrupt stop, likely to trip up Philomela-tyke if she wasn't expecting it. She looked thoughtfully at the exit then back at the raisers in the distance. The kits hadn't really done anything too extreme as to raise their suspicions... yet, "Man, I wish I had my slingshot, but Apollo took it away when I almost poked out Jule-tyke and Owl-tyke's eyes with it. Hmmm... would any of my other babies help here..." She was an amateur tinkerer, really, the slingshot was her more advanced invention, "UGH why didn't I prep a noise-maker or some kind of whirly-gig?! We may have to use the most rudimentary distraction out there," she auburn she-cat gestured toward a pile of rocks in the corner, "All we gotta do is make enough noise in the opposite direction that we go. By the time they realize we are gone, we'll, well, be gone. Unless you guys have a better idea."

"I..well, I mean, I..." Philomela-tyke seemed at a loss for words, her brain taking a few moments to catch up to what her ears were hearing. "Those rocks should work well, I suppose. Though, don't you think the raisers will catch up throwing them?" She didn't seem to have the same mental acrobatics as Briar-tyke, instead moving at a more slow and thoughtful pace, at least for a kit. Kallistrate-tyke snorted at Briar-tyke's plan but said nothing, unwilling to volunteer a plan for it to not work. Her pride wouldn't allow for that, so instead she would just mock whichever plan failed to work.
"Well, you'll never know unless you try!" Briar-tyke purred, she already had pebbles in her paws, she was counting them out, "You gotta slide it across the floor in a way that it doesn't make any noise until it hits the wall. All we need to do is distract the Raisers long enough to look at it instead of us. Once their eyes are off the exit, we will seise the opportunity and sneak out. One of you should be watch out whilst the other two of us slide the pebbles. Dibs on sliding pebbles."

"I'll watch out," mewed Kallistrate-tyke immediately, refusing to partake in the juvenile antics her sister and Briar-tyke seemed set on doing. "But I'm not taking a fall for this if you get caught." Her words were harsh, but anyone who knew her understood that she'd take the blame in a minute to keep Philomela-tyke out of trouble. "Just hurry it up!"
Philomela-tyke seemed to radiate joy at her sister's apparent willingness to go along with it, and she nodded at Briar-tyke's plan as though it made all the sense in the world. "Okay, I guess I'll throw pebbles too," she mewed shyly, unused to actually taking part in such plans. "Um, so we just throw it and then run, right?" She picked up a pebble and weighed it in her paws as though contemplating how much force it would take to throw, and then readied herself to launch the stone as soon as Briar gave the word.
"Almost. Remember, roll like a skipping stone, then only run once Kallistrate-tyke's gives us the green light. We gotta make sure no one sees us!" Briar-tyke's dark gray eyes shined bright with excitement. This type of mission was totally up her ally. She still wished she had more of her babies with her, but this was still pretty fun, "Okay, you ready? 1... 2... 3..." She didn't do anything then suddenly said, "... 4!"
She threw her rock across the tunnel. It skidded against the floor as she had hoped but the friction of the dirt slowed it down to the point where it didn't even reach the wall before it stopped. The auburn she-cat quickly rolled her second stone and that was the one that hit, but it wasn't very loud. Each time she threw one, though, the results improved.
