Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Snowbunny sat down waiting for Lionwhisper and Frostcloud at the brink of dawn. This was his first day as a warrior and also as a knight. Actually it was his first day as an adult at all. He thought he would have his parents and sister around, instead he had new friends and unfamiliar territory. He had spent his life being trained to be a scout hardly eating and never thinking for himself. In WinterClan it felt less militant, like he wasn't being held into place by a mold anymore, but free to stretch his wings. Today felt especially weird though, this would be his first time seeing WinterClan's territory, he felt like a newly made cadet seeing the world for the first time. Weirdly even without a "mold" he still felt himself instinctively keep his head high when he felt low and his tail calm and not curled around himself for insecurity. Even with his warrior name now he felt young, still just as intimidated and mystified by the knights as he had when they came across his patrol.
But things were just a little bit different. He was accepted into WinterClan by a sign from their gods, it was why he was knight of the stars now despite having very little ideas of what that meant.
It didn't matter if Snowbunny was part of Winterclan now or not. Frostcloud would always see him as an outsider especially after their childish snowball fight. She was surprised he didn't go by the name Snowball. She gave the white tom a hostile glare as she approached. A glare that would send shivers down anyone's spine whether it was meant for them or not. Frostcloud was furious that Snowbunny had sneezed his way to the top. She was one of Winterclan's senior warriors, having been around since before Leatherstar had been leader the first time. She had worked her way up with endless effort to get where she was now while this sorry excuse for a Knight just randomly showed up in Winterclan territory and weaseled his way into the ranks.
"What are you looking at, you furry marshmallow?" Frostcloud growled as Snowbunny's gaze met her's as she stood beside him, waiting for Lionwhisper to show.
The decision to make the Regime-turned warrior into a Knight came as a shock to the Knight of the Wise. Though he eventually found the ex-cadet to be a fine addition to Winterclan, the suddenness of the promotion to Knight of the Stars took Lionwhisper by surprise and shock. The idea in itself was conflicting. This was a young outsider barley making his way into a lifestyle and faith foreign to him. The weight of the position, by responsibilities and spirituality, was one that should have been on the shoulders of a more experience cat, but for some reason, the God and Goddess brought forth the call for Snowbunny instead. It was battle within Lionwhisper to accept the idea for some time, but a small and quiet part of him urged him to move forward and accept. There were more questions for the Knight thanks to the decision made, but he chose instead to focus on the young Knight who was going to need all the help he could get to fill the large shoes that were given to him.
Lionwhipser stepped forward some moments after Frostcloud sat, overhearing her unpleasant remark. Unfazed by the she-cat's usual harshness, Lionwhisper instead chose to meet Snowbunny's gaze, barley finding it through his long white bangs. "Good morning." He meowed formally, his tone steady and neutral as he glanced off to the frosty she-cat for a split moment before turning back to Snowbunny "I hope you slept well; Are you ready for today?" The patrol was to serve as a tour, to help the newly instated Knight to get a better understanding of the terrain and territory.
"Good one, admiral!" Snowbunny said, a ghost of a smile curving along his lips, but he didn't reveal it. He didn't know WinterClan cats were so much like Renegade Regime, but if she was he knew not to smile too intensely, but still give credit for the joke. Although he had never been called a furry marshmallow, golden boy or white lie were the common comrade insults he got so it looked like he was finally moving up in the world! He turned to look at Lionwhisper, "Good morning, knight of the wise Lionwhisper," Snowbunny said, but instead of dipping his head in greeting appeared more alert like a soldier, his tail and head held higher, but he seemed to remember the clan custom as he immediately followed it with a quick dip of his head.
"Yes, I am ready to learn. Wintrystar said to me that I am in charge of storytelling and tending to graves, what do your knight positions do?" Snowbunny asked as he walked between them, for the first time noticing just how much they towered over him. He wasn't that small, but their WinterClan fur was thicker than his and he was on the smaller side as many Regime cats were thanks to natural selection in order to comfortably move through tunnels.
Frostcloud hooked her paw around one of Snowbunny's and lifted it suddenly to examine it better, nearly causing him to lose his balance. "Hmh. Seems like your in luck. The god and goddess made a good choice choosing you as the grave digger. You've got good sized paws and you've already worked up a thick callice. Must have been all those times digging in the tunnels." That was the first compliment she gave him but he had better not get used to it. She pushed his paw away, roughly. "I used to be Knight Of The Stars like you but it didnt fit me as well as Knight Of The Guards. Now, I'm in charge of the guards and fugitives such as what you and your friends were." There was an icy edge in her voice as she spoke about her rank. She was relieved to have changed positions even if she didnt show it. She felt much more comfortable in her new position. She wasnt exactly the comforting kind. When a family lost a loved one, she couldnt sit vigil with them and comfort them. Being rough and tough with prisoners and guards fit her better than a glove.
The overtly formal greeting made the ginger tom chuckle out loud "Lionwhipser is more than fine by itself." He smiled, finding himself a bit embarrassed by hearing his full title spoke out loud. He was by no means ashamed, far from it, but it was a formality that was rarely used especially by any clan mates of his. He watched as Frostcloud forwardly reached for the young Knight's paw, pulling it up for examination. On the surface, the she-cat's compliment could have been taken as a statement due to the presentation and tone, but the compliment was as bright as the sun to Lionwhisper and his brows rose slightly in response. He knew that if he had reservations on the decision to make Snowbunny and Knight, Frostcloud must have had mountain lengths of concerns and complaints for the matter. What he didn't know is that a compliment would come so soon to the she-cat's sharp tongue.
Lionwhipser cleared his throat in attempt to wipe the growing grin from his face as he watched the two other knights interact. "The Knight of Wise is responsible for speaking on behalf of the clan when someone is needed to reach out to the other clans, almost a delegate in a sense." Lionwhisper began, unable to completely rid his expression of a smile "If needed, I also give advice and perspective to the Sovereign and Heir on important matters."
Snowbunny's legs wobbled underneath him as his front paw was moved forward letting out a short barely audible gasp as for a moment he thought Frostcloud was just going to strike him. He didn't know a whole lot about clan culture so he had been convinced for a while he was accidentally going to say something horribly offensive, but this wasn't the case. She had a tough expression, but considerate words and although being inspected made him uncomfortable it wasn't anything he wasn't used to. He nodded in confirmation of her guess, a boyish smile across his lips. He purred a little too loudly at her compliment, his face immediately feeling hot at how childish he just sounded. He always had a bad habit of being unable to control his purrs when he was happy. However he bit his teeth together at the icy tone at the end of her job description. Fugitives such as what you and your friends were, she was reminding him what his place was just a day ago. He felt a pit in his stomach, but didn't let it show. This was nothing unexpected, Regime cats always hazed and intimidated anyone new, she just seemed so wildly different now then she was on the snowball field.
He began feeling better listening to Lionwhisper's knight description, but couldn't help but find his position disappointing and a little bit lazy. How busy could he be digging up graves and telling stories to people? There were only so many people willing to listen to stories everyday and only so many times people needed to be buried which was hopefully no one. "I'll try and do you and WinterClan proud as knight of the stars," Snowbunny promised Frostcloud more confidently than how he felt, but he was always good at telling little white lies. Snowbunny looked between the two for a moment, "So why do you think I was chosen to dig graves and tell stories and also do I get to pick a new warrior name at some point. Just asking for a friend..."
"We will see" Frostcloud responded to his promise, narrowing her icy blue eyes as she passed by him. She began to lead the way out of camp as Snowbunny began to ask questions. "Only the God and goddesses know exactly why they decided to choose you for the position. Only time will tell if you truly deserve it." The statement came out as more of an insult than a response as if her compliments just moments before hadn't even happened. Sure, the kid was strong and had good digging paws but that didn't mean he would be good at his job. It still bothered her that an outsider was now in the high ranks of Winterclan over night. "And why would you ask to pick a new name? Starting to think Marshmallow would fit you better?" A smirk played at her lips as she spoke to Snowbunny over her shoulder.
"You'll begin to learn very quickly that not everything can be explained, especially when it comes to the choices made by the God and Goddess. All we can do is follow their plans and do the best we can." Lionwhisper added gently, taking in Snowbunny with bright amber eyes "I have no doubt though that you will do good." The compliment and straight to the point and Lionwhisper didn't bother to linger more on the emotions behind the words.
"Did you have an idea for other names?" He asked curiously, holding back a deep chuckle that fought to break through his surface thanks to Frostcloud's comment.
Snowbunny bit down on his teeth, but kept his composure and thoughts polite. He was just as uncertain as to why he was a knight of the stars, but it sounded like he did Frostcloud a favor by pushing her out of that role. However he was raised to not be cocky, always humble and respectful towards other especially those above or older than him so he instead nodded to Frostcloud's comment towards him being a knight. "Marshmallowfluff is cute so maybe not a step up." He said with a well meaning smile before turning to look at Lionwhisper, "Uhh ha, well Zion for one, but that's not a clan name sooo maybe like Zionmountain or oh, how about Lightningeyes!" He exclaimed... With his long white tufted fur bangs in the way of his eyes. It was hard to tell if he even had eyes at all, maybe there was nothing even behind them.
"Point is I have full reason to suspect that you two are the reason I was named Snowbunny, so I'm onto you," He said, but his tone was light and playful, "Besides only you two would know that I burrowed in the snow, thus the name Snowbunny. It's so cute and not tough at all!" However Snowbunny was not exactly tough in the slightest, he had been trained to be a powerful runner, tracker, and strategist, but in no way would he be able to defend himself in a battle making the suffix bunny very fitting. Originally when he was renamed he felt like a pet until he realized it was perfectly normal in clan culture to rename. In the Regime everyone had one name and kept it, but in the clans tyke and cadet aged cats grew up never knowing what their name would someday be decided as. The culture seemed very strange to Snowbunny and he wasn't sure if he'd ever get used to not internally questioning it.
"Hmm...interesting that you would want a tough name. You were, after all, chosen for a position that was meant for females." She teased harshly. Snowbunny was soft, there was no denying that. Frostcloud only wanted to toughen him up or he wouldn't last very much longer in the mountains.
Though Lionwhisper was no stranger to Frostcloud's manner of socializing, he knew that the newly stated Knight was barley getting to know and understand the knight's ways and though he was doing a great job of respectfully standing his ground, Lionwhisper knew there was only so much a cat would tolerate. His amber gaze and bright as he glared at Frostcloud, knowing the he risked a sharp tongue from the she-cat if he ever get in her way, but he was willing to risk it in the moment. He held her gaze for only a few moments, but those moments felt so long, long enough to get the point across. There was a limit to teasing and Lionwhisper felt she was awfully close to overstepping that line.
"The Knight of the Stars is traditionally held by she-cats it is true." Lionwhisper spoke, though his words were much more serious than the other knight. His threatening gaze softened as it left Frostcloud to meet Snowbunny's "It is said that she-cats are more in tuned with emotions than toms and their natural ability to empathize is prime for the responsibilities and emotional weight that position has. Despite that belief though, its safe to say that not every she-cat has that ability-" The jab was clear as day, even if the Knight didn't direct it to a specific cat. "-just like it can be said that toms are more than capable of building that ability if they are intentional about it, so it says more that you, a tom, were chosen for the position."

Frostcloud snorted and gave Lionwhisper an eye roll. "Oh sure, he's so special. Look, he got me out of a position I didn't want. Now can we just get on with the task shall we?" She responded with an icy edge to her tone as she turned and began leading the way once again.
This time Snowbunny's fur bristled at Frostcloud's comment, but instead of him reaching his breaking point it was Lionwhisper. His tail practically wagged at Lionwhisper's response to Frostcloud.
Snowbunny came up beside Frostcloud who was in the lead, "I really love and respect you Frostcloud, but I hope you don't mean that. Relating that I don't have a tough name because I'm in a position that is normally held by a female. I would hope that any she-cat in my position or otherwise is able to get a tough name in this clan because they earned it and not be denied it because they're not a tom."
The raging winds swept back his bangs showing the worried expression he had on his face at the thought that WinterClan could actually behave that way. After all he was too new to determine if anything anyone said was a fib or not. They could tell him that they sacrificed kits on a monthly basis and he would believe it because currently he had little to go off of for background knowledge.
Frostcloud had a bored expression on her face as Snowbunny attempted to keep up with her. Frostcloud didn't bother slowing, either. She grew up in the mountains so walking over the rough terrain and snow came naturally to her while it would be difficult for Snowbunny who hadn't grown up around these parts. She listened to what Snowbunny was saying but she had very little interest. He was trying to hard.
"Listen, kid. Your so far up my tail, I can't even tell where you begin. So do us all a favor and stop trying to fit in, okay? Your not Winterclan blood and you never will be, understand? Your just a dumb kid that just happened to fall into one of the highest positions in the clan by chance. So, to answer your question, I do mean that. Usually Winterclan cats have tough names because we are tough cats. You, child, are not tough enough. And it was clear that Wintrystar knew that or she would have come up with a better name for you than Snowbunny. The chance of you getting a tough name is slim. So I wouldn't get your hopes up." She quickened her pace, leaving her words stinging the white apprentice like an icy wind rolling off a glacier.
For once Frostcloud's words were comforting and he found a smile rising to his lips, "Thank-you," He said, but it was unclear as to what part he was thanking her for since he waited till she was done talking to say it. Every time he tried to fit in he felt awkward, but when he stopped trying so hard and applied the logic he was familiar with everyone seemed to get along with him just fine. Frostcloud was right, he needed to stop trying to fit in, all he needed was to just be himself even if he was still in the process of figuring that part out.
"And that's okay, I like Snowbunny a lot," He reassured them. Sure it wasn't the tough warrior name he thought he could end up with, but the name was sentimental in all the right ways. It tied his roots with the Regime and his new home in WinterClan well. And while he could have been called Snowrabbit or Snowhare, being called bunny as a playful jab was humbling and amusing.
Frostcloud pinned her ears and rolled his eyes. The optimism coming from this tom is sickening. No cat should ever be that happy and optimistic. It wasn't natural. He had to have had something dark in him. Frostcloud just had to find it.
