Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
Dawn was barely a speck in the sky with dark coating the open horizon in dark blue hues. Snowbunny entered camp dragging a beautiful large swan across the snow and into the freshkill pile. No swans were found anywhere close to WinterClan, but Snowbunny wasn't done. He walked away making sure to use his tail to erase his tracks before returning with a shrew, squirrel, and two mice. It was absolutely unnatural to be able to hunt this much in WinterClan territory, he had done the work of an entire patrol. But that was the thing, he was hoping not to get caught so he quietly began retreating to the warriors den sweeping his paw prints away with his tail.
Snakefang's eyes shot open, the sound of his stomach rumbling waking him from his slumber. He cursed. What is happening right now? His stomach grumbled again, but this time, it was louder and more urgent. Listening to his body's demands, he slowly rose from his nest. He only took one step out of it before his attention was drawn to the entrance of the den as a cat entered. "Is that you, Snowbunny? What are you doing up this early?" he asked.
"Hey Snakefang. Honest answer? I have to go to the dirt place a lot during the night, the Regime always gave me odd work hours so my body just doesn't have a natural schedule," Snowbunny said, but smiled. It felt nice to be able to have Snakefang as a confident. He owed him his life and although he was giving the tom a little white lie by not saying the full story he wasn't lying about his habits. He let out a long yawn, "I swear I didn't get a wink of sleep," He said leisurely as he felt the air stir. Thank goodness, it would mix scents enough where no one could tell if it was him or any other cat that walked by camp which was everyone.
"Hmm that's fair," Snakefang responded, accepting Snowbunny's answer. He continued on to the den entrance. "But you should get some sleep. I have a sneaking suspicion that we'll be selected for a patrol today." he said over his shoulder as he exited and entered the clearing.
Snakefang stretched his legs and started off toward the fresh-kill pile. Looking in the direction of the pile, something caught his attention. It had more prey on it than he remembered last night. As he approached, he noticed there was a large white bird added to it. A swan? He had seen this kind of bird before but it surely wasn't native to WinterClan territory. Now that he thought about it, the amount of prey that was added seemed suspicious. It was a lot, a load only a patrol would bring back, but the next patrol wasn't for another hour or so. He looked backward the warriors den and squinted. Wait...is that why... His stomach growled again interrupting his thoughts. He would have to save his questions until after he ate. Choosing one of the mice, he ate near the warriors den.
"Thanks for the heads up Snakefang," Snowbunny said as he walked into the warriors den and snuggled up peacefully in his woolly nest. That he definitely didn't steal material for from another clan...
When he woke up not long after he saw Snakefang finishing up his meal outside of the warriors den. Was that an odd place for warriors to eat or was that normal? He had no way of knowing if Snakefang was onto him or simply enjoying a meal. He considered sleeping in longer, but his head typically couldn't wake up and find an urge to go back to sleep no matter how tired he was so that was useless. Snowbunny got up and walked over to Snakefang, "Nice catch," He said nonchalantly despite knowing full well the warrior hadn't caught it himself.
"Heh, thanks but this was someone else's catch, not mine" he replied glancing up at the warrior. He head motioned over to the fresh-kill pile. "You know anyone who might have done that," he questioned. "It's nice that they did, but I'm one-hundred percent certain that swan over there isn't from our territory and prey isn't that bountiful. So that would mean..." His gaze fell on Snowbunny. "Some crossed the border to get it. Know anything about that?" He didn't want to outright accuse him of trespassing into another clan's territory but it could explain why Snowbunny was up so early.
"I don't personally know a lot about WinterClan yet, but I would have to agree, swans would not be in a frozen terrain environment like this, very odd," Snowbunny agreed, relaxed at first, but clenched his jaw when he realized Snakefang was onto him or at least onto someone. This wasn't the type of thing he could blame on a rogue, no rogue was going to leave prey in another clans camp. He was silent for a suspicious moment before speaking, "Yeah," He said weakly at first before clearing his throat, "I may have heard something at some point, but I don't remember since I was so tired." Not remembering or not being sure were all the best kind of excuses that no one could reasonably punish another for so they were the safest answers.
Snowbunny stretched out, kneading his paws into the snow for a moment before rising again, "I'm going to go search for some bedding so when everyones up I can be ready to replace the ones in the nursery and elders den if you want to come." No one ever wanted to come when he invited them to do chores. However it was odd, Snowbunny may have been an apprentice age before, but now he was officially a warrior, he didn't have to do apprentice work anymore, yet he still was adamant.
"Hmm...perhaps, perhaps." He eyed Snowbunny up and down. His mouth was saying one thing but his body language and mannerisms read something else. He looked over to the fresh-kill pile again. What would Wintrystar do if they found out that someone was crossing the border to steal prey from another clan. That's enough of a reason to start a conflict and with the current state of the clan, that was something they couldnt afford to do. For the sake of Snowbunny or whoever else did it,they would have to find a way to explain it.
Snowbunny's question broke him away from his thoughts and he turned to look at him and cocked his head to the side. "Why would you want to do that? We have plenty of apprentices and prisoners to do something as menial as that. Dont waste the energy."
"A warrior who only hunts and patrols with other warriors isn't being a part of the full community. Taking care of the nursery and tending to the elders is pivotal in maintaining that connection. Besides WinterClan apprentices have spent moons of their lives getting to know the elders, kits, and medicine cats, but I haven't. It's really not a chore at all, I take pride in serving a community." Snowbunny promised him, "If there's something bigger I should be using my energy on I would complete that first though. Is there a task I should be doing Snakefang?"
He was a warrior, but he didn't know how to be one. He never had an authoritative position before. Now he was the knight of the stars, chosen by WinterClan's gods, but being so new he didn't know what he was meant to do yet. Snakefang was his closest friend in WinterClan at this point so he trusted him the most to know the right thing.
He did have a good point. He shrugged, unsure of what answer to give him. "Nothing comes to mind right now but remember what I said earlier. We might be called up for a patrol so dont get too invested in that." He had almost forgotten about the prey that lay in their camp. He could explain the it so he thought he would ask outright. "Hey, Snowbunny, you didn't cross the border for anything, did you?" he asked."I mean if you did, I wouldn't tell anyone either way." They were friends after all. Snakefsng wouldn't so betray that but he had to know.
"I will not confirm nor deny that in the middle of camp," Snowbunny said with a smile too powerfully charming for his own good, "I'm going to go help out around camp, but if you want to know more you can meet with me in the twilight behind the warriors den. Besides I have something to give you so you may as well show up." Snowbunny walked away in the wrong direction before turning himself around and heading to the rivers to carefully collect some moss. Luckily he came from the only other territory that had snow so ice wasn't foreign to him.
(If Snakefang agrees to meet him my next post will be a time skip to sunset)
Snakefang watched him as he walked away. He had something to give me? That piqued his interest. What could Snowbunny possibly have for him? Nothing he thought of made sense to him so get decided go along with it. He finished up his meal and discarded the mouse carcass once he was finished. Following his friend's footsteps, he started off toward the river to find out what he meant.
Just as the sun was nearly beneath the horizon Snakefang would be able to make out Snowbunny's white figure, as promised sitting behind the warriors den. He had his back turned waiting for him in the other direction and hadn't immediately sensed his friend until he approached closer. He turned around, "Oh hey, you came," He greeted before nodding in confirmation at what Snakefang had asked him honestly about earlier, "I did steal prey by the way," He said lowly, "No one ever knows who I am though, I change my scent and there's probably 50 other white toms out there just like me so they'd never identify me with reasonable certainty. It's safe... So long as I don't get caught, which has only happened like, twice so not a bad run." He explained, not yet revealing the gift.
Snakefang shook his head in disappointment but smiled. "I knew it was you. You act all weird when you tell a terrible lie. Snowbunny. But on the real though, I dont suggest you make that a habit. If it keeps happening then cats are going to start asking questions," he recommended to the white tom. He shook his head again. "But enough of that, what's this gift you spoke of earlier today?" He couldnt imagine what it was Snowbunny was keeping such a secret. Padding up and looking over the tom's shoulder he said, "What do you have there, eh?"
Snowbunny gave a devious smile that shifted into a genuine contagious grin as he turned around and uncovered from the snow a thin clumsily braided band made of long golden blades of grass with light blue stone in the center, "I made it for you in prison. It took like, the entire time I was in prison to make this. Honestly I had to get Cadet Louella to help me out so she could hold it and I'd use my teeth to weave it, but I did it, it's a friendship bracelet! A thank-you for saving my life kind of gift."
The tom was taken by surprise. A bracelet? Just for him? He thought back to the time when they fended of the assassin. Of all the things he would have thought of as a gift, a bracelet wasnt one of them. A friendship band was not what he was expecting. "Thank you," he said genuinely as he gingerly took the bracelet from Snowbunny. This was the first time anyone's ever gave him something. Snakefang didn't know what else to say but a smile slowly formed on his face. "Thank you, Snowbunny, but where should I wear it," he asked looking between his front and back legs. He didnt have much experience with these items so he wasn't sure where it was supposed to go or how to wear it.
Snowbunny brightened up at Snakefang's gratitude, it felt complete having a friend like Snakefang. His sharp pointed ears twitched at the toms confusion, "Oh right!" He exclaimed, where to put the friendship bracelet... Snowbunny tipped his head to the side thinking, "Well, you'll need your front paws to fight so it's probably best if we do a back leg, That way it doesn't distract you in battle," He decided and picked the bracelet up in his jaws and moved behind him before placing the bracelet over his paw, "Do you mind if I fasten it for you? It's pretty tricky if you try and do it yourself. Almost darn near impossible."
The tom nodded as he looked back behind him. "Maybe put it on the left leg?" he suggested to Snowbunny. Since he was mostly right side dominant, he could risk losing it if he was doing something. He appreciated the gesture but he wasnt sure how the rest of his clanmates would feel about it. Having a bracelet was a foreign thing in WinterClan or at least to him. Hopefully it doesnt cause too much of a problem. He lifted his back left leg so Snowbunny had easy access to it.
"Perfect, this should only take a moment," He said as he bit into the bracelet and carefully placed it over Snakefang's ankle. With quite a bit of effort involved he managed to knot it securing it to the toms leg, "Mission complete," Snowbunny said, dragging a paw over the top of his forehead as though that were a lot of work. Still he cocked his head to the side, "I don't really get why you're not telling anyone about what I do at night, but I appreciate it. I would be lying if I said I don't take pride in it, but I know it's not a good thing to do either. Back in the Regime I had to steal prey to make ends meet, although I can tell you one thing, I would have never stolen prey from WinterClan. Snows too deep, everything would take too much time to hunt and return back home so I bet you don't get a lot of prey thieves up here, huh?"
The look look back at his leg and gave it a good a shake. The stone Once he was satisfied with the bracelet's security, he turned his attention to Snowbunny and shrugged. "Just remember what I told you - don't make your trips too much of habit and it won't be an issue. But I suppose you're right, it IS sort of difficult to hunt here," he added. He looked around himself, snow everywhere. He had been living there for so long he had gotten used to it and didn't think twice about his terrain. Hunting was easy at this point. "Say, who's territory did you go through to get the swan?"
