It has been a long time since Nightsky went out of the camp to hunt, seven moons to be exact. But now that her kits are apprenticed she's free to be on her own once again. I hope my skills aren't too rusty, she thought as she padded through the undergrowth in the woodland. It was just past sunset, a light rain was in the air but she didn't mind. Finally she came upon her favorite place to hunt, the hot springs. The pretty tortoiseshell crouched behind a clump of tall grasses and watched the tangle of roots from an old tree for mice. This is where she had made a few nice catches in the past. Keeping her eyes glued to the spot, she heard a soft noise from behind and turned her head.
Uncertain of the welcome she'd receive after accidentally disturbing the she-cat, Wrenfeather quickly took a step back, her amber eyes wide. "I, I'm sorry," she stammered quietly, "I didn't see you, the light was in my eyes." This was true, but she'd known Nightsky had been there. She hadn't quite been following her but a curiosity had engulfed her that she'd wanted to quench at the sight of the deputy's mother. Wrenfeather'd never had the chance to speak with her before. "I know this is a good place to mouse, I was hoping to find some here. Would you prefer to be alone?"

"Oh no, that's quite alright," Nightsky meowed. "I'd like to have some company." She got up from her crouch. "I don't think there's much mouse activity at this tree anyway. We could try over there." She waved her tail in the direction of an old fallen tree trunk. It was hollow and open on both ends. A nice place for mice to hole up. "We never talked much before so I'm glad you ran into me." She gave her clanmate a smile. She loved her kits but it was so nice to have an adult conversation again. "So have you caught anything yet? I just started my hunt."
