behold, the chicken demon. he needs friends guys also shout out to myself for that amazing thread title
Dante, I'm sorry, Demonicchicken, was feeling great. Despite the clan's recent misfortune Demonicchicken was on top of the world. The large red cat practically strutted as he walked, had bobbing up and down as though he were listening to music. And in his head he probably was, the tom was always humming something, relics from his time among twolegs. He hated them but boy if he didn't love music. The birds, who Fuzzypeach reminded him sang, didn't sound half as nice some of the stuff he'd heard while sleeping in a twoleg den.
"Ah, ah, ah, stayin' alive," he sang to himself, hopping up onto a tree stump and tapping his paw to an unheard beat happily. Did life get better than this? You know... despite his clan kinda sorta starving but, whatcha gonna do?
More than ready to throttle the former kittypet if he didn't shut his mouth, Chim raked him with a hard look. "Be quiet. At this rate, you'll scare off any prey we can find nearby and bring every predator down on our heads," he growled. While he wasn't too concerned about being attacked by a fox or badger, there were too many cats in the group for any hunter to risk it, they did need every piece of prey they could find. And with every note the new warrior sang, Chim's memory of blissful silence faded further into the depths of his mind.

so all my cats in swiftclan just annoy the heck out of chim
Demonicchicken jumped when Chimerastar appeared, surprised at the company. Stupidly, it didn't stop him from bobbing his head as though hearing the song even after he stopped singing. He hadn't really interacted with Chim much, though he was aware Fuzzypeach was Chim's best friend. "Sorry," he said after a moment of awkward head-bobbing. He composed himself and leaped lightly down from the tree stump. "I took some hunting lessons yesterday," he reassured his leader. "And today I actually caught some stuff. And I learned a new battle move."
i think that's the one qualification to get into swiftclan now because of you, if chim doesn't mildly dislike/isn't irritated by your cat, why are you even here ALSO CHIM'S BEST FRIEND BGSETDHDGSFG I LOVE IT
"I'm so proud of you," he told him tightly. He had a feeling Demonicchicken wasn't going to be any better with sarcasm than Fuzzypeach was, but it was worth a shot. At least the tom was putting in some effort; that was more than he could say for some of their other cats. "Did you bring it back to feed the clan?"

i love it. like every time he interacts with ANY of his clan he just constantly looked tragically into the camera like he's on the office yeah they are def besties, everyone knows this
"Well," he meowed, "of course I did. Part of the code and all. But uh... Fuzzypeach was hungry. So he ate the mouse. I did manage to give the finch to the queens though." And he hadn't eaten himself. He was still kittypet plump, though no where near the ambleness of Fuzzypeach, so he often felt he owed it to his new clan not to eat. "I was going to go out again, but I uh... got distracted."
"At least you fed the queens," he acknowledged, honestly surprised that the tom had remembered to bring it back to camp at all. That was personal growth for some of his clanmates. Chim wasn't strict on following the warrior code, he had more important priorities and he disagreed with the code sometimes anyway, but it did irritate him to see it completed ignored by some of their rogues. "Well, in that case, you can take the rest of the day off. If you make sure the queens have all the bedding they need in their den."

Demonicchicken nodded, "alright, I can check their bedding. But, uh, I don't need the entire day off. I like the work. It's nice," he admitted, "to be able to part of things. Not as lonely as kittypet life." He was new and perhaps very obviously and pathetically behind the curve for warriors, but he still loved the clan.
Chim blinked. He didn't expect to be argued with, especially when he was trying to do something nice for the other cat. Wasn't he lazy like Fuzzypeach? He studied Demonicchicken more carefully now, seeing him in a new light before he slowly nodded. He understood. Chim didn't like being alone and useless either, it just brought back bad memories, and he hated being alone in his thoughts. "In that case, you can take the dawn patrol."

Demonicchicken nodded, pleased. He hadn't be around for a long time, but he discovered quickly that he liked patrolling. It helped him navigate better. He was also please that Chim seemed to see his worth, he was no Fuzzypeach but he could certainly try his best. "Should I head back now? I know it's going to start getting late but I was thinking about going for a walk."
“Sure,” he agreed, giving him a nod. “Just keep your walk short and remember to get your sleep before the morning. And don’t get lost.” It was a new camp in a new location and he didn’t want any of their cats getting lost in the journey. Shatteredshine has tripped just yesterday and twisted her paw, though she’d been able to walk it off and insisted it stopped hurting after a few minutes.

The territory was new, Demonicchicken had gotten lost a few times already and was not eager to repeat the embarrassing experience. "Um," he meowed, feeling awkward. "I know you're probably busy and all, but would you like to join me? I'd like another view of the territory before dawn patrol, just so I don't go and get everyone lost." Hastily he added, "if not, that's fine! Fuzzypeach will show me around a bit more if I catch him before dinner!"
Chim hesitated. He should check in with his deputy and find out if all the nests were built, and his medicine cats probably needed some help. He should spend some time with his family too, and his friends, he hadn’t seen Pygmyprawn in ages... but a part of him dreaded facing her again, so he found himself nodding. “Sure, Demonicchicken. I wouldn’t mind a walk.”

Surprised and please, the tom nodded and set off, keeping the pace at a pleasant stroll. "So, moving, that must have taken it out on you. I can't imagine leading everyone through that." It was very admirable, even if Demonicchicken was periodically relieved he wasn't responsible for anything but himself and hunting.
The orange tom nodded solemnly, his tail swishing behind him as he walked beside the warrior. "It hasn't been easy," he admitted, "but I enjoy it more than I expected to. The fresh air, the new land to explore, it's freeing. I didn't get out of camp much before." The breeze in his whiskers had a surprising effect on his mood, and he could forget the aching in his paws whenever they crested a hill to find a new landscape to look over. Chim had not been a wanderer since he'd become an adult, but he had taken a few journeys here and there, and he forgot how nice it was to see something new. A part of him was dreading when they would find a new camp.

Demonicchicken listened, understanding. "I used to travel all the time, mostly in twolegplace. I would always stop and think 'maybe I'll settle here' but it never lasted. I just couldn't sit still. I continue to be surprised by how content I am here. When Fuzzypeach found me I had no intention of settling down." He hadn't told anyone that before, knowing it seemed disloyal. But Chim was easy to talk to and he found himself saying more than he perhaps should.
"What was that like?" he dared to wonder. When he was exiled from the clans, he had considered a life like that, living on the run until he found somewhere he could live. He never had the chance, not when his clan began to form around him, but he still longed to see the world. "How did you stay safe and fed if you were always in unknown land?"

"It was," Demonicchicken searched for the right words, "amazing. I loved the traveling. I saw a lot, learned a lot. I liked the thrill of new places. Most cats are pretty friendly and willin' to take a loner in for a day or two." He was lost momentarily in memories. In old conversations and views from the tops of hills that he'd promised himself he'd never forget. "However," he added after a few moments, "there were lonely moments. I didn't have true friends or anyone that would notice if I went missing. I found that here, I think that's why I'm not ever leaving."
Chim was not a dreamer. He preferred to keep his paws on solid ground and his head out of the clouds. Still, he was tempted to close his eyes and imagine this life Demonicchicken had led. Traveling, seeing new places, meeting new faces... it sounded so perfect. "The clan is going to need a new place to live soon, where we can build a camp. I don't want to settle down," he confessed. "I spent my whole life living in that cave, and staying there killed my old clan. I miss being on the move." He couldn't ask his clan to travel with him forever, though, could he?

Demonicchicken was silent for a few moments, considering his words. It had been an exciting life he'd led before, but wasn't a feeling of 'home' worth giving that up for? "I think we're a clan, a strong one at that, no matter where we settle. Or don't settle. I don't know, I know nomadic clans don't really exist, but it's not impossible, is it? Perhaps you'll find your answer. If we find a great home then that's wonderful. If not, well I know your cats would follow you anywhere."
Chim nodded slowly, daring to hope. "I talked to a few other cats that used to travel. They all talk about how difficult it is, but they mostly travel alone. Roaming in a group, that gives us a better chance, right?" His eyes flashed eagerly as he leaned forward. "We can protect each other. Feed each other, like a normal clan, just without borders."
