Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
He rolled with his fall, having unfortunately not been paying enough attention. The recent rain had made the ground slick, causing earth to crumble at the banks. Seasparkleflash had been careless, assuming the day was just like any other, and now the ginger tabby tom was paying for it; crashing into icy water with a sharp inhale of surprise. Paws whirled against the churning water, limbs sluggish and slow as the cold seeped through their fur. Breaking the surface he let out a sharp cough, paddling his way onto the bank, as he heaved his heavy, water-logged body onto the shore with sharp breaths.
He slipped quietly along the banks in search of prey, keeping his head down. He cast a wistful glance at the water, wishing it was warmer so he could go fishing, when he spotted the sodden shape of a drowning warrior. Condorstrike’s fur spiked as he bounded to the water’s edge and prepared to wade in. Seasparkleflash beached himself just upstream of the waiting warrior and he stopped, then retreated from the freezing current and headed to check on him.
The young tom blinked at the unexpected voice, glancing up from where he was collapsed on the rocky shore to see one of the new Senior Warriors staring down at him with concern. Condorstrike, he thought the older tom's name was. "Heh, I'm okay," Seasparkleflash insisted with an amused huff, seeing the humor in his mistake now that he was out of immediate danger. "I've swam in worse, believe me. That just took me by surprise there." Looking at the tom closely, something itched in the back of his mind, though he couldn't tell what about the former Sunclan cat was so familiar to him. Maybe his brain was just waterlogged.
Condorstrike twitched his whiskers. "I've swum in worse too, but that doesn't make that freezing river look any more appealing." He took a step back to shake out his forelegs, suppressing a shiver at the cold air across his fur. If just part of him was freezing and he was a former WaterClan cat, he couldn't imagine Seasparkleflash was very comfortable right now. Maybe he was just getting too old and didn't handle the cold anymore.
Glancing up at him, there was something familiar about the young tom, though he couldn't place why. Condorstrike had never met his brother's kits, but he couldn't shake the little tom almost looked like THunderstorm. "Hey, what's your name? I'm new here, and I'm afraid my memory is not what it used to be," he apologized.
Seasparkleflash listened to the older tom's remarks with interest as he heaved himself to his paws and began to shake out his soaked pelt. So few cats ever bothered learning how to swim nowadays, though he held out hope that Ratstar might change that, so discovering a former Sunclan warrior had the skill was interesting to him. Shivering slightly in the wind, he gave Condorstrike his most reassuring smile. "No worries, I'll be fine. The name's Seasparkleflash. A bit of a mouthful I know, but my mom really likes it." The tom shook out his ginger tail, sending a wave of drops colliding with the water, creating small ripples across its surface. "You're Condorstrike, yeah? Where'd you learn how to swim? Self-taught?"
Seasparkleflash didn't ring any bells in his mind, and he frowned to himself. Maybe he was just crazy, trying to pick up relations out of nowhere. Just because Thunderstorm's family had lived in this clan moons ago didn't mean any of their descendants were left, and lots of cats had orange fur. Still, he felt a prickle of disappointment. He'd been avoiding his former friend since he arrived and it would have been nice to meet someone else he knew. "I am. I was born in WaterClan," he explained, pausing a moment to assess the tom's age before deciding he certainly would have known the clan before its destruction, "many moons ago, and I grew up there. I left home when I was a warrior, but you never forget how to swim."
Seasparkleflash froze, his green eyes wide in surprise as he stared blankly at Condorstrike. "You're Waterclan too?" He asked cautiously, but with a glimmer of hope in his eyes. He didn't recognize this cat at all, did he leave Waterclan before he was born? Did his grandparents know him? Did his mother? If Thunderstorm did know the Senior warrior, she had been incredibly subtle about it. He let out a breath, smiling in relief. "I didn't think there were too many of us left, to be honest. Most of my remaining relatives joined Swiftclan, though I think one of my uncles is in Fallclan? I haven't seen him lately, though. You have to tell me, who was leader when you left? I don't remember you at all."
He caught his breath, daring to hope. Had he really found another cat from his old clan? Condorstrike had avoided SwiftClan because he knew there would be far too many old friends there, and he couldn't bear to see them look at him as the enemy for the rest of his life. He still missed them, though, and if one was here... well, it was better than nothing, right? "Gravelstar," he replied, his eyes misting a little as he remembered the she-cat. Was she still out there, somewhere? Was she still irate he'd left? He couldn't blame her if she was, though he had his doubts she even remembered him. "Gravelstar was leader, and my brother Emberheart was deputy."
Now he was positive that he swallowed too much water, because there was no way on earth he had heard that correctly. "Emberheart?!" Seasparkleflash managed to choke out before suddenly doubling over in a coughing fit, digging his claws into the cold stone and dirt to hold himself steady as he struggled to regain his composure. As the spasm passed, the warrior took deep, heavy breaths while his mind was still reeling. This tom claimed Emberheart, Emberstar, as his brother? Searching his brain, he couldn't remember either of his parents ever mentioning the name Condorstrike. He had certainly been told about his grandparents, Sparrowmark and Dawnspirit, but never Condorstrike.
Eyes still fixed on his paws and the hard, unfeeling stone beneath, he spoke in a soft voice. "My parents are Emberstar and Thunderstorm. You're really my uncle?"
He startled as the tom began to choke, wondering as well if he had inhaled too much water, but the timing was almost too coincidental. His heart leaped to think this little tom knew his brother's name. He hadn't heard from Emberstar in many moons, and a part of him held out hope he was alive somewhere, despite how unlikely it was. It wasn't the news he wanted, but his heart still soared when he realized he had family here. "Yeah, I guess so," he purred, trying not to think too hard about the fact his own nephew didn't know he existed. "You didn't know your father had brothers?" He could almost forgive if Emberstar didn't mention Thrushpaw, he'd died so young, but Condorstrike was alive and well...
Seasparkleflash shrugged, guilt tugging at his heart hearing his new uncle's question. "The subject never really came up," he immediately fibbed, trying to sound as nonchalant about it as possible to spare Condorstrike's feelings. "I didn't have much one-on-one time with my father once my siblings and I became apprentices; Emberstar was constantly preoccupied with his work as Waterclan's leader. Despite my questions about his youth and kin, I didn't want to bother him. I always assumed that once I became a warrior, once life settled down a bit, then there'd be time to connect with him that way I wanted to...guess that's what I get for assuming, huh? I had barely been made a warrior when sickness overtook all his lives." The young tom's voice trailed off in muted, tired sadness. He never blamed Emberstar for being so busy, being a leader was difficult job, and he always knew his father loved him, but... "I wish I had gotten to know him better."
Grief clouded his gaze and he bowed his head at the solemn news. He had known it was a longshot that his brother was still out there when he had disappeared so many moons ago, but it didn't make it any easier to find out the truth. He truly was on his own now. His siblings and his parents had died, his children hated him or had passed on as well, his former mate hated him and his family rejected him. His brother hadn't even bothered to tell his kits that they had a living uncle out there. Condorstrike knew he made a mistake all those moons ago, but he had never imagined it would ruin him this badly.
"I'm... so, incredibly sorry to hear that," he murmured, his voice thick, "he was a good cat, and he must have been a strong leader as well. I wish I could have been there to help raise you, but I was lost." He was still lost, perhaps now more than ever, but there was something freeing about being lost on his own instead of deceived by his love. "I'm sorry to ask, but what happened to your mother?"
Seasparkleflash blinked at the question, tilting her head in confusion. "Thunderstorm? She's here in Summerclan with me and my remaining siblings. You haven't seen her yet?" The tom wasn't completely surprised; his mother mostly kept to herself nowadays, usually only interacting with kin or going off by herself. Still, it was interesting that Condorstrike, who was so connected to both his parents, hadn't noticed or ran into her yet. He wasn't sure how long it'd been since the Senior Warrior joined, but the clan wasn't that big.
"She is?" Condorstrike looked surprised. He didn't spend much time inside the camp yet, preferring to ease himself into clan life slowly, but he should have seen her around by now. He wondered if it was terrible luck that had kept them apart, or if she was intentionally avoiding him. "Oh. Well, that's great news," he murmured with a little smile, "and did you say you have other siblings here?"
