Calamitystar bounced up and down in excitement. Finally he was getting to lead the camping trip for their new troops (he totally didn't give himself another apprentice just so he could go...totally not at all). "Aren't you all so excited?! Just look at these bright, young faces! Soothingfall, you remember when you were a new apprentice right?! Wasn't it the best thing in the world?!" You could tell the ebony tom was too excited for his words because he kept babbling on even after asking his questions.
Mythpaw's eyes were round with concern as he watched the leader frolic about. Turkeypaw was being fueled by the high energy.
If this had been just two moons ago, Firepaw would have been bouncing like Calamitystar, but now his gaze was narrowed in on Fabledpaw. Just his luck that she would be promoted at the same time as him, and now he had to go on a camping trip with her. He refused to let his glare waver, making sure that the burnt half of his face was in full view of the new apprentice. He always dreamed of being the center of attention, sure, but now he would always receive stares for the wrong reason.
Legendarypaw was standing next to his sister, Fabledpaw, and was finding it rather difficult to ignore the orange tabby's glare. In fact, he found it increasingly discomforting. More so then the fact that his mentor was the only one that he did not want to be assigned to. He lightly nudged Mythpaw, leaning towards him to whisper, "Uh, is he staring at me? Or someone else? I really can't tell."
"Just remember, it's dangerous out there and we need to keep safe. I don't want anyone straying more than four tail-lengths from the group at any time, got it? And no loud noises or you'll attract predators. Anyone who doesn't catch something doesn't eat," he continued, sweeping his narrow gaze over the gathered cats. Jayjack had been trusted to raise a young apprentice to become a stunning warrior, unsurprisingly given he was a strict and efficient mentor, but he was also planning to keep an eye on everyone to ensure there were no fatalities this time. He didn't trust Cal to do this right. "Legendarypaw, I want you walking at the back. If you see anyone trying to leave, stop them."
Fabledpaw whispered back to Legendarypaw before Mythpaw could answer "I'm positive he's glaring at me." Just managing to finish her sentence before her brothers mentor was giving him a command. She stuck close to them in a desperate attempt to hide from the heat that Firepaw's glare was radiating. She was still trying to decide the best way to handle the whole mess, she had never been able to speak to him after the incident. Dragged away by the older cats as soon as they were stumbled upon, everyone having been gasping in horror at the state of Firepaw, well Firekit at that time, and interrogating her about what had happened. Every time after that she tried to get into the medicine cat den to see him she was shooed off told he was in pain and sleeping. Even when he returned to the nursery he had seemed out of it for awhile, then he had transitioned from groggy to a perpetual state of seemingly planning the best ways to murder her in her sleep.
Shaking her head and deciding to ignore him for now she nodded absently to Jayjack, nudging her brother to move towards the back, sticking close to his side. Deciding to walk in the back with him, away from Firepaw, unless someone told her otherwise.
Legendarypaw had his mouth open, about to question his sister on why, when his mentor interrupted, and he immediately shut up and gave a single, rather stiff, nod in response. He knew he wasn't going to be able to have much fun on this trip with his mentor around, and he was starting to wonder if Calamitystar would stick with Jayjack's statement of not eating when his sister nudged him, bringing his mind back to current matters. He retreated to the back of the group, coming to terms with the fact that he probably wasn't going to be able to talk to others very much. That is, until he noticed Fabledpaw trailing behind him. At least he had his family. "So, why does Fireki- Firepaw seem so intent on you?" he asked, once he found his spot in the back.

Calamitystar let out a laugh and placed one paw on Jayjack's shoulder. "Don't you worry a single hair! Everyone will be alright." He purred, not sure if he was trying to convince himself or the aurulent. "Anyways, Firepaw, what are you looking forward to most?"
Mythpaw's eyes narrowed at the orange apprentice and he shrugged. "Seems like someone has a crush on you, Fabledpaw." He teased coolly before flicking his ears dismissively.
It was only after losing sight of Fabledpaw that Firepaw turned his attention to the leader, and it took him a few more moments to remember the question. With the other apprentice out of mind for now, he was able to relax slightly. "I'm not really sure what to expect, so I don't know what to look forward to," he replied, almost sheepishly, though his voice was still loud with excitement. However, his voice was normally loud, so it was rather hard to tell the difference.
Soothingfall was finally a warrior, it felt like it had been forever since her first camping trip when she became an apprentice and the excitement of the fun to come had her paws shaking, she took off in a flash of white past Jayjack as he thoroughly placed the apprentices throughout the group, jumping past Calamitystar and Firepaw while letting out an excited mew. "Guys if you don't hurry we will have wasted half the day!"
Jayjack snorted dubiously. He was already unhappy with the way the other cats were acting and dashing about like rabbits with their heads cut off. "Soothingfall is right," he grunted, "we should get going soon, Calamitystar."
Fabledpaw gave and awkward laugh at her brothers assessment, wanting to correct him but knowing there was no polite was to say that Firepaw actually wanted to murder her in her sleep rather than do anything nice. So she instead decided to let Mythpaw make his assumptions while she desperately tried to figure out the logistics of how much sleep she truly needed and if she could get it hidden in a hole somewhere so Firepaw couldn't find her. And making a mental note to never accept any food from him in case he poisoned it.

"Oh you're right! Come on Firepaw, we've got to keep up with Soothingfall!" He purred to his apprentice and began to bound forward after the new warrior.
Mythpaw's eyes narrowed, knowing all to well his sister was worried. "Don't worry. It'll all be fine." He told her gently and began to follow the others, but keeping close to her side. "Now, are you looking forward to this as much as our leader is?" He laughed, trying to distract her.
Firepaw was left to blink at the spot that his mentor once stood in, taking a few moments to process what actually just happened. With one more glance back at where he last saw Fabledpaw, he followed after the leader. He was much slower, of course, not wanting to push himself too much after spending an eternity in the medicine cat's den, and the breeze of running stung his still sensitive raw face.
Legendarypaw gave a side-glance to his sister, knowing very well that her silence meant Mythpaw was probably wrong. Normally, she was the most talkative one of the bunch, and he doubted that finding out about a crush (that she didn't seem to return) would silence her like this. Still, he wouldn't push her for answers. Instead, he gently pushed himself against her in support. "We're here for you," he whispered just before straightening himself out. "I don't think anyone could match that level of excitement," he said, turning his golden gaze to Mythpaw.

Calamitystar glanced back at Firepaw, realizing that the young cat probably couldn't keep up as well because of his wounds. He had just wanted to get him away from the other apprentices as soon as possible. The truth was, he worried about what kind of cat his apprentice would become with the hatred he seemed to carry for Fabledpaw. Cal recognized that kind of hatred... He had it himself once and it destroyed part of his life. He may fail, but he was determined to save Firepaw from the same fate.
His pace slackened a bit and he padded alongside the orange tom. "The camping grounds are so much fun. You're going to be amazed! It's going to be awesome seeing Blossomfall with her new totem too!"
Firepaw nearly released a breath when Calamitystar slowed down, but didn't want to appear relieved. Truth was, he was just glad that he wouldn't have to rush to catch up to the odd leader. And to be away from Fabledpaw. He attempted to give his mentor a smile and asked, "What actually happens at the camping grounds?"

Cal turned to look at his apprentice, smiling gently. He seemed much calmer now that they were away from the tension. "Many amazing things! The new warriors receive their totems and we have many activities to help build leadership. It's really a lot of fun."
Perhaps there would be a way for Firepaw to shine during these activities, for him to be the center of attention again for something other than his new injury. Still, instead of the excitement that he normally felt during such occasions, there was a pit in his stomach. Could he ever be sure that it wasn't because of his scar that others were paying attention to him? Swallowing down that thought, he nodded to his mentor, putting on a false happiness. "It sounds fun!"
