Stormsurge was pregnant again, and her weird good mood had evaporated as she realized the consequences of that. Seven more moons in the nursery! With Ravensara and those simpering roque-kits she'd found? And if this new litter was anything like her last... no. She wouldn't even entertain such thoughts. This litter would be better, stronger. Stormsurge was absolutely sure of it. If not, she may as well drown the lot and give up on producing fine warriors for her clan.
The thought made her grouchier than usual, she sat outside the nursery with a sour look on her face and kept shuffling because her belly was making her uncomfortable.
When Polarblast heard that his mother was pregnant again, it made him...jealous. To think that one of them could be better than him, was..was just stupid! The mere idea was stupid. Didn’t his mother understand that he was perfect?!?
Walking into the den carrying a bird he’d caught, the tom moved towards his mother nest. “Good afternoon, Mother.”

"Polarblast," Stormsurge greeted, her voice brisk as usual. This was the one son she was not entirely disappointed in. Strong, smart, promoted before the others. This cat was her son, that she would freely admit. "I trust you've already gone on patrol and hunted today? Before bringing e that bird."
"Of course, Mother. I brought you the pick of my hunt in order to make sure you'd be strong for the kits to come." Polarblast curled his tail around his paws as he took a seat next to his mother's nest. He was at a respectful distance from her and her nest, and remained silent and still just as she'd taught him as a kit while she ate. Her perfect son, the promising child. The one to possibly become a Knight or Heir out of her oldest litter. "Have you thought of names, Mother?"

Stormsurge nodded, placated, and began to eat. Her bites quick and neat before cleaning her paws once finished. At Polarblast's question she paused and looked at him, "oh of course not. I named you all based on the day you were born. Cold, snowy. I'm sure the new kits will receive names based on their day of birth, it's a tradition in our bloodline. You ought to remember that for when you take a mate." The gray she-cat resumed her washing for several minutes before continuing, "do you have and prospects, as far mates go? You're not going to be young forever, Polarblast. Think of your future. StarClan knows you're the only one of the lot with one."
"Not yet, Mother, I've not found anyone worthy of joining the family line." Polarblast had heard this conversation many times form his mother before and had not put any effort into finding a mate as she asked. He hadn't found anyone in WinterClan just yet who was worthy of someone as great as himself. "Is there anyone you recommend, Mother?"

Stormsurge's small bit of kindness towards her kit fizzled immediately, replaced by a coldness she usually saved for her other children. "Polarblast," she meowed warningly, "your choice of mate must be entirely your own, your judgement needs to be tested. Look at your father, loyal, strong, handsome. My choice in mate was a good one. But imagine if I'd chosen a cat such as Frostfire? A traitor and plain? You would not have born with the potential you were. Remember what your children will be like, that's how you chose a mate." To her, you didn't have kits for love. You had them for duty to the clan and Polarblast needed to learn that, however, "I am proud of you for looking for someone worthy of our bloodline, remember they must be born WinterClan."
( neverstarstar Wanna tie this into the Day/WIC plot? Like Poalrblast gets feed up with searching within his clan and then when Wintrystar announces this he pushes for it "to do his duty in increasing the clan's numbers" and he and his mother fight for the first time. He's trying to be perfect WIC solider and doing his duty. and his argument will be that he won't be a father to the kits, he wont claim them as his, just like she's disowned his siblings)
"Of course, Mother. I would never dare think of mating with someone outside of WinterClan!" Polarblast's fur ruffled at the mere idea of disobeying his mother and soiling the clan's bloodlines. But..where did he start looking for a mate?

(sounds good, bring it on)
Stormsurge seemed satisfied with this, "good, you may make me proud yet." The gray she-cat liked him best, but she also reminded herself he wasn't perfect. He was the strongest out of a litter of weaklings. Hopefully her next litter were strong, and her favorite would be a formidable cat likes her and Basiliskvenom.
It was moments after Wintrystar had announced the line up of cats who would be participating in the event with DayClan. Their meet up points had bene announced for each cat who had signed up to participate in the event. Polarblast had surprisingly been one of them. Many cats had gasped when they heard his name called, but the tom had kept his head up high just as he'd been taught. A part of him worried though. He hadn't told his Mother that he'd be participating in this, especially with the hopes that he'd have kits to help WinterClan. He was only doing it for the better of the clan and knew he'd never stay with the she-cat he was assigned too, even though he didn't know who it was he'd been assigned to.

The she-cat had frozen when Aurorashine's name had been called. Then Northpaw, then Tundrafreeze. And then Polarblast. Stormsurge was a good warrior and hadn't made any noise during the announcement, though she constantly had to suppress a yowl of absolute fury. As soon as Wintrystar was finished she stood and marched to her son, ignoring the others. Of course they were involved in this pathetic event. She said nothing to her son once in front of him, but the way she looked was as if she were facing a great enemy.
Polarblst held his head up, trying to keep face with his mother. "Have I disappointed you Mother? I merely saw the lack of kits in WinterClan and believed I could help, even if I do not claim them as my own." The clan needed kits and as a strong warrior it was a responsibility of his to pass on his genes to the next generation in hopes of keeping the clan strong. He couldn't believe his mother would see wrong with that. He wouldn't claim them as his, they wouldn't be any more of a spoil to their line than his siblings were.
