Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
If you asked Reaper why she left Moonclan, you wouldn't get a straight answer. Even she didn't know. The best idea she could come up with is that no one place could tether her, the wandering assassin. Nothing would hold her down.
But that wasn't true. She knew that something out there would hold her down. Perhaps that was why she was always wandering- she was searching for the thing that would soothe her brittle heart. Moonclan had not been that thing- being a healer and guide had not been that thing. Assassin work had not been that thing. Nothing in her short and varied life had helped her feel whole again. So she had left, in the dead of night, not caring about her obligations to the Moon goddess. And yet she had not lost her abilities. She still sensed things, things she shouldn't know.
And now the slim black she-cat found herself on new territory, her paws guiding her in a direction unknown, pulled by some force that kept her moving.
----
Beedust had pleaded with Thistlestar to walk with her, even though she was supposed to be asleep. She was so heavily pregnant that she waddled when she walked, but she still yearned to run through the territory like she used to. The active she-cat was excited for her kits, but she was tired of being bed-ridden. After a long debate, she had won him over, and they were wandering slowly through the flower fields by the pale moonlight.
They were nearing the woods again when a she-cat emerged, smelling foreign and familiar at the same time. Beedust paused, moving slightly behind Thistlestar. In her physical state she could hardly defend herself, nor did she want to put her kits in harms way. So she kept herself at a farther distance than her mate.
----
Reaper slowed to a stop at the sight of the tall tom and the round ginger she-cat. Slowly, she inclined her head. "Good evening," she said slowly. This was hardly the first time she had been caught trespassing. But she had always gotten out of it- whether by diplomacy or by force if she was attacked.
The pleading and debate was rather short by Thistlestar's standards. Despite his rather strong, mental will that restrains even the most persistent and stubborn of minds, the tom had an Achilles heel; his own mate Beedust. It didn't take too long for those pair of honey colored orbs to convince the Springclan leader to back down from the restraints he had placed on his mate. She was rather far ahead in her pregnancy and as much as he disliked the idea of her roaming out and about throughout the territory, vulnerable in her state, he disliked the knowledge of his mate's discomfort and restlessness much more.
"You got what you wanted, but under my terms and my terms state that we have been out long enough." Thistlestar began, his deep voice half stern, half loving as he looked to his ginger mate who waddled slowly at his side. The walk was horrifically slow for the tom's usual pace. His longer limbs usually reached farther and his natural speed bordered power walking and a jog, but for his mate, he slowed down completely, taking short steps that felt odd and uncomfortable. The two made their way towards the woods as the leader spoke and he watched the smile that grew on her muzzle grow dim as a unfamiliar scent flowed in with the night's gentle breeze. The leader's movement's were swift as his head snapped towards the direction of the scent, stepping forward immediately to cover his mate. From the corner of his vision, he watched as Beedust followed along in suit. Before he could give her any orders, the sight of a black cat slowed in the distance ahead. The cat's body was rather relaxed for someone entering a marked territory. Thistlestar's mind only wandered to the possibility of this being a clan cat, but the scent was oddly familiar, but he couldn't place a connection to it just yet. It was certainly not a Mountain Clan cat so his only inference was that this cat was from the forest clans, scents less familiar to the Springclan leader.
The stranger inclined it's head, but the Leader remained still, his stance wider in a small attempt to block as much of his mate as he could though he knew it was impossible to hide her round frame behind his thin figure. "Good evening." Thistlestar finally spoke, his tone neutral but his naturally narrowed eyes posed a quiet threat. "You've wandered rather deep into Springclan territory." He stated calmly "I am assuming you have some matter of business here as any Clan cat knows better than to just roam freely into another clan's territory..."
"I have no business here, and I mean no harm," Reaper said, her clipped tone somehow still conveying the genuine nature of her remark. "I tend to ignore the scent markers when I wander. It's merely a bad habit of mine." She moved closer, her pace slow and lazy, despite the tense mood. As she approached, she tilted her head, her round yellow eyes focusing on Thistlestar. "I sense your dedication to your unborn kits, and I assure you I mean no harm to them."
It didn't take an overly perceptive cat to piece together Beedust and Thistlestar's relationship, but something in her gaze made it evident that she could see the emotions that the two cats were emitting. It was always unsettling to those who didn't know about her abilities.
---
Beedust should have been wary- she had just realized who this cat was. But instinctively she moved forward, her own head tilting in response. "I know her," she whispered to Thistlestar. "She used to be a rogue- an assassin, if the rumors were true. But now she smells like Moonclan." Beedust had run into a few Moonclan cats in her months away from Springclan, so she knew the scent more readily than Thistlestar. She had met Reaper only once, when she had spent a night in her rogue group's camp, and the she-cat had unnerved her even then. But now there was the added aura of knowledge around the emotionless cat, and the mystery drew Beedust closer to the small black she-cat.
There was an odd sense of trust the Springclan leader felt grow within him as she she-cat spoke. Though his mind relaxed a bit more, his body remained strategically squared, still blocking his mate from the stranger. His body only continue to tense as the she-cat neared. His own moments mimicked hers, closing the space between them only slightly before the she-cat's words rendered him to freeze on the spot. Thistlestar's brows narrowed slightly as he took in the she-cat's expression which seemed odder than her observation, also as if he was seeing into his soul...
Beedust's brought him back from the small moment of distraction, causing him to blink hard. Seeing his mate step forward made him step fully in her way, hindering her from moving forward anymore without having to go around him. The tom wasn't one to be so controlling, despite his position in Springclan, but the overbearing instinct to protect over took his judgement and actions in that moment. He listened to Beedust, but his spring green gaze remained on the she-cat in front of him. "You've strayed far from Moonclan, too far for it to be just a nice evening stroll." The remark was forward and honest, bordering on simply inquiring and threatening, challenging the she-cat to explain her situation further.
"I am no longer a part of Moonclan. Though scents tend to linger longer than affiliations," Reaper said, sinking down onto her haunches to ease some of the tension. After sitting, she neatly draped her tail over her front paws, her unblinking yellow eyes still taking in the couple. "I do apologize for the intrusion. If you want me to turn around, just direct me to the nearest border. But that won't sate the curiosity I sense from you, and from her especially." Reaper flicked an ear in Beedust's direction.
She never knew things like names, or dates, or thoughts. But Selene had granted her a sense of knowing, at least the general state of things. Emotions, relationships, pure or maleficent motives, general mental states. Those things she saw as clearly as if they were spoken aloud.
--
Beedust understood Thistlestar's movements, but she still had to resist the urge to kick him in the heel for butting in her way. "There's something weird about her. I mean, she was always weird. But now she seems to be... different, somehow," Beedust whispered again, peering around her mate's shoulder to better take in the former medicine cat. She couldn't quite explain why, but she wanted to vouch for this virtual stranger. "If I go back to camp, will you chill out a tad and talk to her?" She knew that all the information would be relayed to her later, anyway.
The blatant confession peaked the Springclan leader's curiosity, more questions and concerns growing as the stranger spoke on. Though it was uncommon for cats to leave the clan life, it was far and few. His curiosity grew more as the she-cat spoke on her unique observations. His ears twitched as Beedust spoke quietly, his ears barely picking up her quiet words. As much as he liked the idea of his mate being back at the safety of the camp, but the idea of Beedust venturing back by herself created an unsettling feeling of nerves in his stomach. As of that moment, Thistlestar was sure that the she-cat was alone, but he couldn't count on the notion truly. His faith in his ability to protect her if anything were to go south was strong. He chose to remain silent on Bee's request and instead focused on the she-cat ahead of her.
" As you already know, it is against clan rules to trespass on other clan's territories and abandoning a clan doesn't grant you the right to trespass," Thistlestar started, his own movements slowly melting from his defensive stance, but he remained on his four paws. "I just find trouble understanding how a ex-clan cat who would know this still breaks this rule, especially an ex-warrior from a clan so far from our territory."
"I've always viewed rules as more of a suggestion- though if you're strongly suggesting I leave, I will." Reaper's clipped voice and short answers annoyed most cats. She knew that- she always sensed their frustration as they tried to figure her out. She told herself that it wasn't as deep as they thought, that she was a simple cat with little to hide. She always answered honestly, but she knew they were always trying to look deeper, figure out why she did the things she did.
But that was a part of herself that Reaper herself refused to peer in to. She kept whatever trauma her past caused her under lock and key, acting on impulse, never stopping to question her motives. It was safer that way, simpler to live as a blank slate than a deeply broken she-cat. "Though I wouldn't suggest fighting me," she said, a faint smile on her features. "Most cats lose."
"I don't know how they manage rules in Moonclan, but in Springclan, our rules are not taken as lightly as a suggestion would." Thistlestar spoke calmly, but there was a sterness than lingered in between this words, playing lightly on what would be considered a threat, but they didn't quite pass that line due to the tone the leader's words carried. It felt more like friendly advice on the surface if one didn't try to dissect the words.
"We aren't wasteful of our claws here in Springclan, I can assure you that." Thistlestar commented nonchalantly, defusing the threatening words the stranger used, but the Springclan leader was internally tensed and preparing for the unexpected. "There is no need for pointless bloodshed, instead, you can allow me to accompany you in the right direction." He stepped forward slightly, stopping as he awaited the ex-Moonclan cat's response. Taking that step away from Beedust caused a unsettling wave within Thistlestar. Everything in his fiber wanted to be at his mate's side, but he knew that the ex-Moonclan cat didn't stand a change at this close of a range if she tried anything.
