Her icy blue eyes fixated on the mouse before her, nibbling mindlessly at a seed. Her ebony body was perfectly still as she waited for the perfect moment to strike. Just a bit closer and the prey would be hers. Nyx narrowed her optics, bunched her haunches, and sprang. As she killed the creature, her mind flickered to the current state of the league. It was a far cry from when she'd left, back when Severine was Nemesis.

"Is that one actually edible?" The question was half joking and half morbidly serious, the black shape of Elleth padding in through somewhere in the depth of the shadows and materializing right beside the she cat, her sunflower eyes less upon the other hunter and more resting on the prey that was now dead, as if half expecting it to jump up and do something.

"I think --" a bout of coughing cut her off as she backed away from the prey. Once it was dead, the horrible stench drifted up, assaulting her nose. "--not." Her stomach rumbled as she stared at the corpse miserably. "Do you know what the hell is going on with the prey?" she questioned, absentmindedly scraping dirt over it.

She wasn't sure whether to laugh or scoff at the thing, and so she merely looked down on it with a gaze of perplexity, disgust, and a hint of out of place amusement at the prey's dramatic timing. "If I did don't you think I'd be spreading the news?" She said with with sharp sarcasm, though there was a hint of sympathy to her words. "I've just been on the same receiving end as you that I'm not even surprised anymore. Is it too early to say we're in trouble?" Elleth said, with the sort of simplicity that one might have thought it was a punchline to a flat joke and not an inquiry to the continued survival of the entire league.

"Us? In trouble? Please," Nyx snorted, shaking her head. The ebony feline, being the great-great granddaughter of Katie E'tani, had never been a fan of Vera and her oppression for her bloodline. However, she never took the Nemesis for an idiot; surely, if something was going on, Vera would take care of it. Right?
"It's probably just a virus in the prey. Maybe cerebri pestis in them now. It'll run its course, just like it did with us."

The she cat blinked in complete confusion at the mention of the virus. She'd joined right after the outbreak, but something about being a prisoner and getting half beaten to death didn't really keep you on top of group gossip or recent events.
"I don't have a clue what a cereb-whatchamacallit is, but if you say so." There was a certain laid-back casualness to the tone that made it more than clear Elleth didn't believe her. But she didn't blame Nyx either. She was like every one else she'd met, and especially like everyone else here. The group was tough, the group was prepared, here, especially, the group was long lasting. The group would survive. It seemed like an almost religious dogmatic belief to her, but she supposed here it wasn't such a grandiose delusion as it was in the city. She couldn't realistically buy into it, but she was willing to humor it, as she did now.
"Anyways, let's just hope everything clears up by the time it gets too cold, if it doesn't then things will really suck." Perhaps 'suck' was too light of word to describe starvation, but she seemed content with the descriptor.

"I wouldn't worry about it. The prey on our territory isn't our only resource," Nyx responded with a shrug, glancing back at the shallow grave. Her words were casual, a reminder of the complete disregard the league had for honor and respect for boundaries. The world was theirs for the taking, and you were either with them, or against them. "What's your name?"

There was a slight moment of excitement, and the hoped that somewhere in-between the lines the other she cat's words implied that they might possibly be doing one of those clan invasion she'd heard so much about. It probably wasn't the smartest idea if she had to admit it all from a strategic perspective; they would be low on resources, trying to fight against hunger, cold, and a clan with an actually good supply of food. But raw blood-lust and a need to stir trouble was enough to make her attempt to push that all to the very back of her mind and let herself get hopeful despite her best senses.
"Elleth." She answered casually. She figured her newness left her pretty unknown, though it wasn't as if the way she just popped up and sat down next to random cats hadn't started to gain her a reputation. "What about you?" She turned the question back around, but there wasn't a ton of interest in it. First off, she was bad with names, and second of all, she tended to think names were overrated. As if one little title could really express an entire, multifaceted network of personality, ideas, and opinions, and the way the changed and swayed from day to day, future to past, place to place. Maybe that was a bit too deep to express her disinterest in names, and to be fair, it wasn't really those complex divergences that she consciously felt and thought through. Instead, she merely felt a weirdly bland, displaced boredom at the lull in the conversation to exchange something she considered rather pointless.
