"Don't come back empty pawed," Autumngossamer called out to Gingersnap, but she was gone already, quick as a snake in the grass. The soothsayers ears fell watching her leave, she had grown up too fast. She didn't know why, but there was a part of her that was afraid that she was chosen by the Sun God. Like she wanted to suppress her kids to live a normal boring life so they wouldn't live out a life of pain, shame, and mistakes as she had. She had been an apprentice, a bit older than Gingersnap when she was chosen by the Sun God and a large part of her recognized that it was being made to believe she was special, invincible at such a young age that drove her to make the horrible mistakes she had. Being the chosen one ruined the youngs potential in her opinion.
Gingersnap dashed across SunClan's camp and through the hornet nest style tunnels of SunClan until she emerged into the glade. Gotta find a sacrifice, sacrifice... She had not asked her mom what that was, but it sounded like it had to be something alive and willing to go away for a while. Bringing back a piece of prey alive sounded hard though, everything looked so small and fragile so it would have to be something a bit bigger... That was when she spotted a MoonClan cat at the border, he looked perfect! He had lighter color fur and then darker around his face, those were Moony Clan colors and no one in SunClan liked those so it would be okay if they vanished for a while. But how was she going to get him over to this side of the border? SunClan cats were experts at manipulating others with their priceless good looks and seductive voices attracting even the fearful across those delicate border lines. She could do the same. She batted her blue eyes and strode up close to the border, "Hey," She said soothingly, "GET OVER HERE YOU ROCK BRAIN! You've got bird bones, easy to break. Your mamas so fat she could knock down mountains just by turning. Get over here Moon Dweller!" She taunted.
(omg there is so much Autumngossamer in Gingersnap & I love it)
The seal point tom had been screwing around at the SunClan border mostly out of boredom. He wasn't really hunting or patrolling, just going for a walk, trying to clear his head without any social pressures. Hollowpaw came from a long line of pure-blooded MoonClan cats who were all very much opposed to the new rogue leadership of Leviathan. They felt especially betrayed by Maplestar and even Oakstorm, both of which, it turns out, defected to SunClan when MoonClan needed them most. He was so sick of hearing the gossip that he had half a mind to go straight to SunClan himself and get the real truth. He wouldn't, of course, he was just being dramatic. If his family found out he was here alone, during the day no less, they would be livid. He'd really get an earful. He sort of hoped that that what would happen, he loved a good fight. His kin were too upright, couldn't see past their own noses. The rogues were not much better but in all the opposite ways.
He hadn't noticed Gingersnap until she called out to him and his short fur bristled. He knew odds were he would come across a SunClan cat, but he didn't think the one he'd find would be so... small. And cute. Ugh, she just had to be cute. He hated cute things.* Luckily for Gingersnap, Hollowpaw was certainly in the mood for a good fight, and she was giving him all the fuel he needed, "Look who's talking! A squirrel-brained little she-cat thinks she can talk the talk, but the worst she can do is insult my mother? She'd have your head, but I don't think she'd wait it, it's probably full of hot air just like the rest of you stinking SunClanners!" He padded right up the the border, tail high in the air, fur bristling even more. He guessed that the two of them were about the same age, but Hollowpaw himself grew quickly, much like most cats of Siamese descent. He was close to his full height and hovered a head above her, blocking out the sun and casting the flame-point cream-puff in a skinny shadow, "You really think you can take me on?! I'm not even convinced that you are eating solid foods yet!"
(It's funny because Gingersnap's made to be more of the opposite of her mom. Instead of fueling others with insults she fuels them with compliments, but because he's an outsider she's got more of her moms side at the moment)
"You can talk you can bicker you can bicker bicker talk, you can talk talk talk, bicker bicker, talk, but you can't walk the walk ♪♫♩" Gingersnap sang, the whole time shaking her hips, with a smirk meant to be snarky, but she was too shy to commit to the whole act so she came off with a cute innocent smile as she sang out the tune she had made up. Her tail swished to the side as she pointed an accusing white paw at him, "I dare you to step over this line, go ahead lunar fangs," Gingersnap teased and really if Hollowpaw stepped over that border he definitely had the size to his advantage to take her down for sure. She was smaller and more her age, which was a 6 moon old, newly made Janus.
"Why you...!" Hollowpaw's temper finally got the best of him, but for whatever reason he was smiling, somehow angry and also struggling to contain his laughter. This cat was totally bonkers and it seemed that was contagious. He shook his head, flexed his claws then padded right up to the border. He her an incredibly stern look on his face that lost its effect the moment he opened his mouth and released a rogue chuckle, "Seriously chicky, what is you end game here? I've had ticks that are bigger than you." With that, he put a paw right on the border, leaning forward to try and spook her more. You know, make up for that laugh. His dark face in contrast to his white fur made him hard to read and hid his embarrassment well.
Gingersnap gave a horrified gasp that turned into such a high pitch it sounded like she swallowed helium, "YOU-" She couldn't seem to get the words out, her entire fur rose as she looked to the sun than to him as though expecting it to vaporize Hollowpaw on the spot. "How dare you?" She asked more than said, but then did something infinitely more bold and trotted right past Hollowpaw, "Ohhh, look at me, all high and mighty t-" There was an audible snap as a two-leg net came up on all sides of her and trapped her inside. The net twisted around and before she even struggled all she could manage to say in shock was "MoonClan's technology is scary..."
Gingersnap tried to get out of the net, but only proved to become infinitely more stuck in the process.
Hollowpaw very nearly jumped out of his own fur when the trap was set off: he landed on all four paws after being airborne for a full three seconds, now fully on the SunClan side of the border, not that he was even paying attention to that anymore. "Uh, yeah, that's not a MoonClan trap," He said slowly, edging toward the device on the tip of his toes, giving it a good sniff. The smell of twolegs was very faint but present. It was weird, though, twolegs rarely traveled this deep into this part of the forest territories, and, besides, what were they doing setting a trap like this? The mystery of it wll was fascinating but hardly worth Hollowpaw's time. Something wasn't settling well with him here but he couldn't quite place his paw on it.
"If you hold still I may be able to get you out," Hollowpaw said as a mischievous look spread across his face,"But you'll have to ask me nicely, maybe beg me a little bit, who knows how long you'll be trapped here before the next SunClan patrol finds you or, worse, whatever actually set this trap."
"Oh no! I'm so cute, they won't be able to resist taking me if the person who set this up comes!" Gingersnap worried. She tried to move one more time, but after her paw got caught she looked back at Hollowpaw with helpless eyes, "Alright, I'll beg a little if you please don't tell anyone. Please help me, you're so much stronger than I am," Gingersnap said, pausing for a moment, not wanting to continue, but looking back at SunClan in the distance, if they found out her tied up in this net they would tease her for moons.
"Pretty please help me, you're much more superior and prettier than I am with those good cheek bones and angular deep ocean blue eyes. I'm sorry for being mean, I should have been nicer to you. I'm really stuck right now and I guess I'm just not as smart as you are to know how to get out so please help me and don't call me a mouse brain. I promise I'm usually smarter and I'll make better choices if you please let me out," Gingersnap begged to him, her blue eyes were staring pleadingly at him for help.
SunClan cats were notorious for having copious levels of pride, so it was an understatement to say that Hollowpaw did not expect Gingersnap to yield so quickly. She did not look much older than a kit, probably barely an apprentice, so maybe that was high. She hadn't been fully indoctrinated yet. A corner of his mouth lifted when she started filling his head with compliments and even more begging. This was... a little much. Made him actually feel bad about being so harsh on her. That being said, he was aware that that was exactly what she was trying to do here. Guilt him into doing what she asked.
"You're pretty good at that," Hollowpaw cooed, padding up to the trap with a lot less hesitation than he aught to have. He wasn't afraid of Gingersnap at all after that performance and had forgotten that he probably should have been wary of that trap, too. He put his nose right up to the net but couldn't quite see any weak points for it. The SunClan cat must be standing on the base? But she couldn't exactly move, either, "Hold still."
The seal point tom stuck one paw into the net and drug it across the base, searching for a seam or something that felt different, anything that he could tug on really. His black paw was directly under Gingersnap's belly now - although not touching her - as he thought he felt what he was looking for. Except... he couldn't get a good grip with one paw, perhaps a twoleg could with its thumb, but not him, "Don't try anything funny!" He warned as he slipped his other paw through a different hole. It Gingersnap wanted to, she could be able to inflict a pretty good bite wound on his head through the net, but he decided to trust her for now. After all, Hollowpaw was helping her out.
He grasped whatever he felt with both paws and pulled.
"I promise, I won't be mean," Gingersnap said, staying still as Hollowpaw tried to get a grip.
As Hollowpaw tried to get a grip to get her out he soon became entangled in the net alongside her. Gingersnap seemed to notice and tried her best to bite and chew at the rope trapping Hollowpaw's inside to attempt to free him, but she was too young to have sharp teeth to do much damage and backed off before turning away from Hollowpaw's ears and letting out a loud shriek, "SOMEONE SAVE US!!" Although turning away did not help in the slightest for saving Hollowpaw's eardrums. She moaned, "Why did you have to look so tempting to tease, I wouldn't have been in this mess if I hadn't failed so bad recently..."
"WILL YOU STOP SCREECHING?" Hollowpaw screeched right back at Gingersnap and, although his voice was not quite as shrill, it was just as just as loud and damaging to the ear. He squirmed to try and put some space between himself and Gingersnap but all he managed to do was further entangle the two of them. They were side by side now, their pelts brushing against each other's uncomfortably, with no relief in sight, "And will you stop wiggling around like that? You're making it worse! I don't know about you but I would like to get us both out of here before a patrol from either of our Clans finds us. All I do is tried to do was help some kit in distress and look at me now, destined to be a laughing stock for sure! No wonder MoonClan cats and SunClan cats don't get along!"
Gingersnap snapped her mouth shut in that moment, "Jeez, you didn't have to yell, your mother ever teach you about indoor voices?" She muttered, "Oh and what? They don't get along cause there's nets we get stuck in, that's ridiculous. There would never be that many nets!"
Just then the sound of a twig cracking in half could be heard coming up from behind them. Gingersnap stayed silent, at first thinking it would be a MoonClan cat ready to scratch her for pieces for stepping on their territory before realizing it could be a predator. She stayed completely still waiting to see who it was and not immediately trying to beckon them over. However a cat did appear, ebony black with raised bulging scars and the scent of death and horrid medical ointment surrounding her like a bad aura. The black she-cat stopped right below the two, "Looks like that two-leg got quite the bargain catching two cats," She purred, poking Hollowpaw with her claw out of amusement, "I'm not supposed to be here. I was on my way out and I still plan to. I can let you both out though if you promise you won't tell anyone you saw me. Think you two can do that?"
"Oh totally! Yes. Just this one time, only cause you're on MoonClan's land," Gingersnap promised the stranger immediately.
"This has nothing to do about the stupid net---" Hollowpaw began his retort only to fall silent when he heard the twig snap. It sounded like it was coming from the MoonClan side of the border so he awkwardly turned to look in that direction, partially strangling Gingersnap in the process, only to see it was a cat he didn't know. There wasn't much he could do now, though, so he turned away and released the SunClan kit from her momentary gag. He lashed his tail dramatically for the next few seconds as he not so patiently waited for the intruder to reappear in his line of sight.
Up close now, he still didn't recognize this she-cat. Hollowpaw tensed when he was poked but didn't give her the pleasure of a more dramatic response. He could tell right away that she was the type of cat who wanted to play a game and he was refusing to participate. But, ya know... it wouldn't be too much trouble for her to get them out. The only problem was that this dark-furred cat's acrid scent was enough to make him distrust her. He had to remind himself that deciding something like trust so soon was not a good way to do business. It was easy to confuse a gut instinct with prejudice and right now it was far too convenient to assume it was the latter. He just needed to mkae sure she was up to no good before validating this deal.
"Well..." And there Gingersnap went, already agreeing to something before Hollowpaw had a chance to even get a word out. He put his paw over hers and dug his claws into it, not enough to break skin, but enough to hopefully get her to shut up, "... I'm not so sure I can do that unless I know what you were doing here. I remember talks of a scarred-up she-cat fighting for Shadow Era a few moons back." He met her eyes with a steely-eyed stare, "That was you, wasn't it? I couldn't tell right away but now I'm confident you are a Regime cat."
Xuxa rolled her shoulders back, "I was going to be a little gentler on you two, but seeing that you know who I am I'm going to skip the pleasantries and get straight to the point. My last two subordinates, Nikko and Razz left the moment they felt they had gotten what they wanted out of me. I'll be sure to not make the same mistake again in giving so much freedom."
Xuxa climbed up deep into the tree before plummeting down making the branch snap, but not completely as to gently lower the netting. She was intentionally avoiding breaking the traps netting. She began to carefully nip off the twigs and leaves as with each twig removal the net leaned closer down to the ground, slowly and gently sinking them until they hit the floor.
"Wait, Hollowpaw, who is she? Why won't she cut the net?" Gingersnap asked anxiously.
