"Heeelp!" This was not how she had thought the first day of her adventure would start out. She had managed to escape from her home without alerting her parents or her littermates as far as she knew and she had even made it to the edge of the neighborhood before being set upon by a dog. It was easily the biggest dog she had ever seen, much bigger than the tiny thing that lived with her and her littermates and this one was acting as if it wanted to eat her! So here she was running as fast as she could towards the nearest tree she saw praying that she could make it before the dog caught up with her. So much for today being the start of her exciting adventure.
A fierce caterwaul broke alongside the noises of the dog, clashing like the small body of a silver and white tabby tom did into the dog. So absorbed the mutt had been with the other cat it hadn't noticed it's attacker until said attacker was crashing into his space and clawing fiercely towards his face. Sending the animal stumbling backwards and to the ground so tripped up it was trying to stop it's forward momentum. The cat, more prepared for the clash, twisted and bolted away until he was racing past the other and up into the tree. "Hurry!" He called as he dug his claws into the bark and scrambled up the trunk. Not accustomed to climbing he let his instincts lead him, fur puffed and terrified he hadn't stalled the dog enough for them to reach safety.
The last thing the young she cat had expected was to hear the sound of another cat. It was very welcome of course since his arrival gave her the chance she needed to put some distance between her and the dog. Upon arriving at the tree right behind him, she made her way up to safety. Her movements were clumsy and she almost fell back down before regaining her balance. She had never even been allowed outside before today so she had never had much of a chance to practice her tree climbing. As it was, her fur was still sticking out in all directions as she peered over her brance to look at the dog below. It was now standing right at the base of the tree barking and howling. Hopefully the twolegs would come to collect the brute before much longer. For the moment she was safe though and so she turned to her savior. "Thanks...I thought I was done for back there!"
A brown tom had been lounging around inside his twoleg yard when he heard a loud barking and thudding paws race passed his fence. His head quickly rose up from its resting place his ears perking up in interest. Jumping up to his paws he bound towards the fence and leaped up onto it. Wobbling slightly as he regained his balance almost falling over to the other side. His amber eyes quickly found the source of the chaos. He'd watched the small she-cat flee from the large dog, the brown tom was about to join in when the silver tom had beat him to it. The toms whiskers twitched as the other tom fought off the dog giving the she-cat enough time to scramble up a nearby tree. His small heart racing with adrenaline as he watched them both scramble up the tree just in time as the dog regained itself and started barking at the base of the tree. The tom began to work his way along the fence so he was closer to where the two cats and the dog where currently. He stilled his movements once he was parallel with the others his ears twitching out of nervousness. He'd seen this dog around a few times as it had a habit of escaping its yard, it's twoleg nest was a few nests down from where they were currently. Looking around he pondered on what to do. As long as they stayed in the tree they'd be fine, the twolegs usually came for the dog, but looking around he didn't notice anyone coming for it yet. Turning his attention back to the two cats he called out to them, "Are you two okay?!"
The sound of yet another cat drew her attention to the fence of a nearby home. "I'm alright! That dog came out of nowhere though!" She glanced back at the creature below them. She shuddered as she thought of what might have happened if it had caught her. In the distance she heard the shout of a twoleg. With any luck they would be coming to take the dog back where it came from. She had no desire for her adventure to be ruined by a stinky brute of a dog!
The silver tom looked between the two and dug his claws further into the bark and crouched lower if to simply feel more assured of his position on the branch he was now perched upon. Despite the barking of the dog the tom felt awkwardness encompass him. It was been awhile since he had interacted with other cats, and he still felt skittish around those he didn't know. The last cat he had trusted had tried to murder him after all. So he sat in silence and simply watched them both, even if the tom on the fence could hardly pose a threat in the current situation.
The brown tom gave a small nod of his head once again before looking around and noticing that a twoleg was approaching them. He vaguely could remember that this was the twoleg that would occasionally come and grab the dog and take it back to its nest. From his perch on the fence he called out once again to the two others in the tree. His long furry tail swayed behind him to keep his balance, “Just hold on a lil l-longer! It’s twoleg is coming” his voice shaking slightly due to the nerve inducing situation. He gave a little yowl to try and grab the dogs attention and bring it closer to him. Despite being lower to the ground the brown tom at least had the option to take shelter on the other side of the fence, but if either of the two in the tree fell they’d have no where to go. His amber eyes turning once again to see if they twoelf had gotten any closer.
When the tom on the fence mentioned a twoleg, she turned to see who it might be. She didn't recognize them as someone that lived anywhere near her nest, but then again she had never seen that dog before either so that made sense. She watched in relief as the twoleg came up to the tree and grabbed the dog by its collar. After it was clipped to a lead, they begun to drag it away despite the creature's very loud protests. The little she cat let out a sigh of relief as it was dragged away. "Finally! I didn't think I was ever going to get away from that thing!" With her fear completely forgotten at this point, she began to make her way down from the tree. "Almost being eaten by a dog is hardly the way to start an adventure!" She knew most would turn and head home at this point, but she was stubborn. She had to see this through. She was going to see the world no matter what. For now though she glanced at the two toms, both the one on the fence and the one in the tree. "I suppose I should thank both of you! I would have been a goner if you guys hadn't helped me!"
The brown tom watched as the twoleg came to collect the dog. His hunched position on the fence seeming to lower even further down then should have been possible as his large amber eyes followed their movements. His ears twitching as the dog continued it's loud wailing. Watching the smaller she-cat begin to climb down the tree he easily leaped down from his perch atop the fence and strode over to her. Once he was close enough he stopped his approach his head tilting slightly at her exclamation of an adventure. But, then he quickly shook his head. "I didn't do anything, it was all thanks to him that you were able to get away" the tom hummed using his tail to gesture at the silver cat that had bravely fought off the dog so that the she-cat could get away.
Feeling self-conscious and still a little on edge he edged carefully along the branch before shimmying his way down the tree trunk. He supposed keeping his silence was no longer possible, not did it seem polite to simply walk away from the both of them. "I wouldn't have been able to live with myself if I had just left without helping." The tom admitted with a small one shouldered shrug as he ducked his head. Sneaking a glance between the other two, slowly feeling more comfortable with them. Both seemed rather easy going and kind, otherwise they likely wouldn't have been involved in this situation at all. "I suppose you two are kittypets then?" He questioned as he glanced towards the fence where the other tom had appeared from, and then down along the twoleg nests where the she-cat had glanced towards more than a few times. Unlike some others he had no issues with kittypets, but he was curious about why the she-cat was in such a situation if she was indeed a kittypet.
"Kittypet?" She had heard the term a few times. That was what wild cats called cats that lived with twolegs right? It made sense she supposed. "Well...I used to be. I was born in a nest down the street from here. My siblings are still there I would assume, but I want to travel! I don't want to go live with the old twolegs two nests down! I want to see the world and that is what I plan to do!" Her focus had almost instantly gone back to the adventure at hand. She couldn't wait to get going, but she was not so rude as to run off without at least speaking to these two when they had been kind enough to help her get away from that dog. "I would have been more careful had I known there was a dog loose in the neighborhood. I didn't even know they got that big honestly."
Shifting from his standing position to a sitting on the brown cat wrapped his tail around his paws watching as the silver cat made their way down the tree giving him a warm smile. He blinked slowly at his words and pondered over them, then turned his attention to the she-cat intrigued by her story. The tom himself hadn’t really had the urge like she did, but now that she’d brought it up he couldn’t help his wandering mind as his amber eyes scanned the forest that lay just beyond them. Turning his attention back to the other cats he opened his mouth. “Yeah, I live a few houses down from here” he hummed, answering the tom’s question with a twitch of his nose. The she-cat having never been outside before explained why he hadn’t seen her before. Tilting his head he asked the silver cat, “What about you?”
Silverpaw's ears twitched as he listened to these two cats, who lived such different lives than he had thus far. Surprisingly he found himself rather thrilled by the prospect; what better way to forget his former life than to start off with such a fresh and new encounter such as this. "Ah, I've never met a twoleg, or a dog for that matter. Today was the first for both." He admitted, he gave a helpless little shrug. Winterclan had not been a clan near twolegs, and being as young as he was there had never been much opportunity to see anything much outside of the camp. His first journey outside it ending in disaster and his abandonment of his old life and what he knew. "I thought it must be boring over here but I was clearly wrong. Both about my impressions on dogs and kittypets." The she-cats proposed journey was one that sounded like it had come from one of the more fantastical kits, and yet here she was not even born in a clan and already mustering up more sense of adventure than he had ever had himself. "Do you know how to hunt or anything like medical knowledge?" He asked her, curious how prepared she even was.
His questions made her frown. "Hunt? I've never had a need to hunt before now and I've never been sick a day in my life so I really haven't had a need for medicine either..." Now that she had actually stopped to think about it, how was she going to learn those things? She had to be able to eat and what if she got injured? How would she treat herself if she didn't have any knowledge of medicine. "I just sort of thought I could figure things out as I went." She gave the tom a sheepish grin. Making things up as she went was already becoming a bad habit for the young she cat, but she honestly didn't know how to behave any other way.
"I don't want to be a stick in the mud, but I'm not sure you can make up how to hunt as you go?" He hesitantly spoke with a little shrug and looking sheepish. "Forest animals probably aren't going to just walk into your paws. And if you slip and fall and hurt yourself I'm not sure making you how to fix yourself is going to do you any good." He glanced around at the other tom and the houses around them. "Perhaps you should find someone who knows some basic medicine and ask them to go with you?"
