Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The chilly, spring breeze whistled past her ears as the white, medium-length haired warrior sprinted through the forest. The she-cat's strides were long and powerful but calculated as she maneuvered her way fluidly through the natural obstacles that were sprinkled throughout Springclan's vast forests. The racing of blood and powerful beating of the cat's heart filled every part of her senses, lighting a new fire of excitement within the young cat. With her new found burst of energy, Yarrowsong pressed harder, gaining more speed as she continue to race on. It wasn't uncommon to find the she-cat running from place to place. Her mother always told her she had far too much energy for a kit and had always hoped that would lessen as Yarrowsong grew. Unfortunately, her capabilities only grew as time progressed. One habit that most certainly helped the she-cat maintain her ability to balance her excessive energy was her daily runs. Almost always after her morning duties, Yarrowsong often indulged in a good, morning sprint to continue that day. Today was like every other day.
Yarrowsong leapt over a fallen log easily, landing strategically into a couch before launching herself off once again. Her breath grew heavily and deeper as her body began to signal it's descent and slowly she came down to jog. As the warrior slowed, she took great note of her surroundings, her signature bright smile plastered across her expression. The forest was particularly beautiful this time of year, especially as Newleaf crept around the corner. The cherry blossoms had yet to bloom, but by the looks of their buds, it looked to be soon enough-
A sudden flash and white and black caught the warrior's attention. She turned to fully face the direction of the movement, but in her attempt to slow down and her distracted mind, she did not see the stray root that grew out of the dirt below. Her paw nicked the root hard, hard enough to send the warrior flying forward, losing her footing and ending in a somersault of dust and dirty. She came to a painful stop, rolling just tail lengths from the creek that ran through Springclan's territory. "Ouch." Yarrowsong grunted softly as she slowly stood up, wincing as a sharp pain shot from her paw up through the rest of her body.
Viperstream padded through the woods, old leaves crunching slightly under his paws. His voluntary solitude was spent early in the morning, when the air was at its freshest. In this time, he was able to either clear his mind or self-reflect before starting his daily clan tasks. This morning was spent on the latter. With Newleaf coming, vibrant colors were beginning to spread throughout the forest. Stopping in a clearing and closing his eyes, he took a deep breath, filling his nose with the smell of crisp air and damp dirt. Exhaling, he felt himself relax more, his body loosening. Reopening his eyes, he continued on his journey.
The birds that inhabited the land were actively, chirping to one another and flying from tree to tree. Jumping onto a large log, he got a sight of what lay ahead. Taking this time to enjoy the scenery, he sat down, the sound of rushing water faintly heard. Thinking back, thoughts came flooding into his head. Out of all his time in SpringClan, he hadn't been that close to anyone, even as his time spent as one of the two Trusted. He did recall, however, meeting a cat very much like himself in the past from one of the neighboring clans he talked to briefly but since then he hadn't seen them. I wonder how they're doing, he thought with a slight smile across his face.
As time passed, the sound of the water became more and more prominent as thirst set in, breaking him from his thoughts. Dropping down from the where he was perched, he made his way toward the source. As he came closer, a familiar scent came to him through passing breeze. Curious as to what, or who, it was, padded onward.
Yarrowsong slowly rose to her paws, wincing painfully as she applied pressure to her back right paw, raising it instinctively to avoid additional pain. The realization of her predicament hit her hard and she couldn't hold back the loud groan that erupted from her. She knew exactly what she pain was based on previous experience. As a young kit, the warrior always go into trouble, playing too roughly too recklessly and always nearly ending with her spanning a paw. It had been so long since she had. One aspect of her training that her beloved mentor focused on was better control and manifestation of her loudness energy. She had done so well in avoiding such a stupid mistake for so long, but today broke her rather impressive streak of not hurting herself.
Another stupid attempt at standing on her paw made the she-cat yelp in pain and she stopped, instead opting to sit back down, stretching her wounded paw out to avoid further disruption. How would she face the medicine cat with this? The thought made her sigh deeply, her duo colored eyes blinking slowly in a quiet moment of disappointment.
As he got closer to the river, the sound of rushing water grew louder and the dirt became more damp and softer under his paws. Faintly, over the ambient noise, he heard a sound, causing him to pause mid step and look around, but nothing was in his immediate line of sight. Moving toward a large fallen tree, he noticed the scent he smelled earlier getting stronger. Another cat? Leaping over the log, he followed it down an offshoot of the river. Just around the bend, his eyes landed on a white she-cat. Looking her over, it appeared she was injured. Yarrowsong? She must have been the one that made that sound earlier. Not wanting to startle her, he padded toward her.
"Yarrowsong? Are you okay?" he asked her tentatively.
The soft padding almost went unnoticed with the babbling brook beside her, but Yarrowsong coincidentally turned to catch the sight of a familiar face. Her heart dropped only for a moment along with her breath, but she regained composure, offering Viperstream and rather bright and wide smile "Oh! Hello Viperstream!" She called out cheerfully, blinking nonchalantly, slowly bringing her injured front paw down to the floor in attempt to hide her wound. Place it back down, she was careful not to put her full weight on it, instead strategically leaning more onto her other paw. "Oh yes! I am!" She gushed slightly "Just a little bump on the road- clumsy me!" She brushed it off, raising her injured paw and waving off the situation. Her paw ached painfully as she did, but she bit hard, mustering every ounce of control to ensure that no flinch gave away the pain. "I'm sorry, are you out hunting right now?" She asked curiously, her expression suddenly growing grim as her mind wandered to any possibilities "I'm sorry, was I too loud? Did I scare away prey for you? I really, really didn't mean to!" Panic tinged her words as they sprayed out in a rapid succession.
He straightened out his posture seeing as he was noticed. He quickly shook his head in response without thinking. "No, no, no of course not," he responded, returning his . "I was just out enjoying the fresh air and sounds." He looked her over. Something seemed off about her. Was it her posture? "Are you sure you're okay? I heard a sound coming from this way and thought I would investigate, or at least I thought it was from this way. I could be wrong though," he said with a slight chuckle.
Relief was clear on the she-cat's very expressive face. One less thing she unintentionally messed up. Yarrowsong's heterochromatic gaze watched as the silver cat took her in, up and down, observing her intently. The moment made her uncomfortable until she realize her white pelt must have been stained with brown from the dirt it took on from her painful somersault. Embarrassment burned her pelt, making her feel hot. "Oh most definitely I am sure!" She cheerfully quipped as her fluffy white tail wrapped around her paws "I am just out enjoying the fresh air too!" She admitted a bit too quickly, but she didn't notice herself. Her mind began to reel with ways to get out of the rather embarrassing situation before it could get worse. "Actually I was about to head back to camp in a bit, but I'm stopping for a quick drink before I do!" She looked back at the stream behind her, her friendly smile plastered to her expression, unmoving as she attempt to redirect the warrior's attention to anywhere else but her.
Something about her behavior felt suspect, like she was hiding something, but he didn't want to press the issue further, especially if she says that she's okay. He's been living long enough to notice the signs of secrecy but chose to ignore them. "Well alright," he said reluctantly, his eyes still on her. His eyes flicked down to her tail before returning his attention to her, noting her tail conceal her paws. Looking over her shoulder toward the river, he asked with a friendly smile, "Do you mind if I join you? I've been out here for some time and hadn't had a good drink of water yet."
Just as she thought was in the clear, Viperstream offer her company. "Oh sure I don't mind!" She reacted naturally, her social side shining brightly at her surface too fast for her mind to truly think through the situation. It took only a few moments for the realization of her new predicament to hit her and her stomach flipped. "Oh um... I mean-" She quickly spoke up again, this time her tone was drastically different, weary and cautious as she tried to come up with a new excuse to cancel out accepting the tom's invitation. "I- um- forgot that I actually buried a mouse I caught just a while ago." She lied, unaware that she had admitted early to just being out for a walk, panic blinding her from realizing she had just changed her story "You'll have to go back to camp alone after since I have to go... the opposite direction to grab that mouse to bring back to camp"
"Oh...alright. Of course," he said in a disappointed tone, looking down. She was definitely hiding something which was odd, but the most confusing part to him was why. What could possibly be the reason? Did he make her uncomfortable? They were from the same clan for crying out loud. Reluctantly, he shrugged it off and reasoned with himself that it was due to his sudden intrusion earlier. He wasn't sure how else to respond to that so started off toward the waterside.
Yarrowsong sat still, watching as the warrior set off towards the waterside, a smile plastered across her express. As he reached out towards the waterside, she rose, turning carefully forward the water, careful not to agitate her sprained paw more. She leaned down for a quick sip of water, balancing on her good paw so much so that she was lopsided as she lapped up the cold, refreshing water. Her dual colored gaze glanced off to the side, taking in the warrior for a short moment, her mind distracted in how she was going to get away without him realizing her wound, but in that moment of distraction, a shimmer of silver in the water unexpectedly moved quickly at the corner of her eyes.
A wave of surprise and fear shot through the white she-cat, making her jump back high in the air. She landed back on her four paws, but forgot about her sprained injury until a sharp pain shot through her paw and up her leg. She yelped out in pain, raising her injury pain instinctively.
Viperstream jumped, the sound of a scream startling him. His head snapped around to the direction of source of the sound. Seeing that Yarrowsong was holding up her paw, he immediately sprinted toward her to check on her. "Are you alright?" he asked as he looked her over, concern in his voice. She's not bleeding anywhere so it must be internal. He looked at the raised paw more closely and saw that it was swollen. He looked at Yarrowsong. "You sprained your paw, didn't you?" he asked her. If it is injured like that, why would she try and hide it?
At the sound of Viperstream's words, she swallowed hard, meeting his gaze long enough to see that she had been caught. Her ears fell flat in embarrassment as the silver tom approached her, taking interest in her injured paw. "Okay I did." She admitted rather quickly, lowering her paw slightly to the ground, but still careful not to apply much pressure to it, leaning again on her good leg to avoid the most discomfort she could. "But please don't tell Fawnheart or Softpelt- they are going to chew me out for this if I limp my way into their den again even after they told me to be careful- they are going to think I'm too mouse brain at this point to function with the track record I hold for sprained paws." The words came out in a quick spill of frustration and shame as the white warrior ranted out loud.
Viperstream shook his head in disappointment but had a smile on his face. "Accidents happened, you know, and it sometimes it cant be helped but you definitely need to get it checked out, Yarrowsong," he suggested. "If you want, I can talk to them and explain what happened so it doesnt come off like you're the klutz they think you are." He looked around him. "Wait here for a moment please, I could have sworn there was wormwood nearby..." His voice trailed off as he went into the forest. Moments later, he returned carrying a small bundles of leaves and placed them in front of her. "If my memory serves me right, you're supposed to chew on these and it should relieve the pain," he said as he used a paw to push the leaves toward the she-cat.
Yarrowsong frowned at the tom's words, finding it near impossible to argue against, especially with the throbbing pain in her paw, but as Viperstream proceeded, the frown across the white she-cat's expression melted into a look of hopefulness. "You'd.. do that for me?" She spoke up quickly, her dual colored eyes blinking slowly as she took in the warrior as he stepped away. She waited patiently, confused at what wormwood was until Viperstream returned with a small bunch of leaves. Yarrowsong's head tilted curiously as she examined the leaves herself before turning back up at the warrior, taking in his instructions with blatant shock "How do you know that?" She asked with surprise, not hesitating further to take a few leaves in her mouth and chewing them quickly.
He smiled and nodded at the she-cat. "Let's just say I've been around," he meowed. A lot cats didnt know or at least have forgotten that before finally settling on staying in SprinClan, he traveled the different territories when he was a loner. "I've picked up on a few things a long the way." He watched her as she chewed the leaves. It was a satisfying feel to be able to do more than. "Once you've chewed it into paste, spit out the remnants. The pain should begin to subside after a little bit." he further instructed as the medicine cat training came back to him.
"You've 'been around'?" Yarrowsong echoed with growing interest "Like a double life?" She questioned with complete seriousness, her naturally naive expression looking particularly innocent as she inquired deeper into the matter. As she thought of the endless possibilities, she chewed on before finally reaching the paste consistency and spitting out the remainder. The bitter aftertaste left the warrior sticking out her tongue in disgust "Does it always taste that bad?" She groaned, shivering violently as she spoke, allowing the taste to once again fill her mouth.
He laughed, amused by the question before moving to remove the discarded leaves. "Oh, no, nothing exciting like that," he responded as he used a paw to push the remnants toward the water's edge. "Before I came to SpringClan, I spent some time in other clans and spent a short time as a medicine cat's apprentice. Luckily, those skills stuck with me," he meowed as he rinsed his paw and turned to face her. Her reaction to the medication widened his smile. "Oh yeah, the bitter taste won't last too long, just give it a minute."
"Wow! I had no idea-" Yarrowsong breathed in awe forgetting the foul taste in her mouth in those brief moments of surprise "I mean, I knew you weren't clan born, but I didn't know the details, or your vast experience!" A small laugh escaped her in that moment as she realized "Well I had the best luck then running into you with all your medicine cat experience!" She purred in content "I probably would have been paralyzed, alone and frightened in the woods had you not come along!" She exclaimed dramatically, knowingly teasing herself and the situation "You're like... my hero!" She stepped forward to nudge the leader before wincing in pain. Having forgotten her injury, she had stepped forward on her hurt paw with her full weight.
