Here on Classic we understand that sometimes life can get difficult and we struggle. We may need to receive advice, vent, know that we are not alone in our difficult times, or even just have someone listen to what's going on in our lives. In light of these times, we have created the support threads below that are open to all of our members at any time.
The leaf-bare wind was cruel that morning as Heathersong slipped out of her makeshift nest, glad for the moss and downy feathers she had found just the last night. If not for those, her ears would have frozen off, she felt sure. She sent a silent prayer of thanks to StarClan for the protection their camp offered them from the wind, and braced herself to head out into it. Their freshkill pile was meager at best and with the sun rising soon she knew there would be a high demand for prey. Both luckily and unluckily, their group wasn't too large so there weren't too many mouths to feed. Still, with injured and ill cats the weight fell on those capable of providing to pick up the slack.
Her breath puffed out in a great white cloud as she ventured out, her paws almost instantly starting to prickle with that pre-frostbite burn. She knew her time would be limited, and she planned on hurrying up when she heard faint mewing from her left. A newborn squirrel, perhaps? As soon as the thought crossed her mind, she rejected it. It was leafbare, and squirrels - babies or not - didn't mew. Dread filled her stomach as she hurdled over fallen logs and marshy pits towards the sound, her fears confirmed when she saw a bundle of fur clumped together. It looked more like an owl-pellet than a kit, but sure enough that faint mew emerged again.
"StarClan, no," she breathed, reaching down to lift the kit into her mouth. Who would leave a kit out to die in this weather?! she wondered angrily, careful to lift the kitten without harming it. When she was bent down to collect the first, she spotted another pelt, colored brown this time, in a shrub just next to them. "A whole litter?!" she growled, carefully tamping down on her anger as she set about gathering the rest of the kits and bringing them back to camp. Her blood was boiling, and she vowed she would find whoever thought leaving their kits to freeze to death was acceptable.
