Arcticpaw sat down at the ruins, her tiny form barely a dot in a cats vision. Her tail curled around herself as she gently spoke, "So one day she jumped for the cliff, but she missed the neighboring ridge, her claws swept at air, but Lilylullaby didn't fall, she flew. She was stronger than anyone could have ever imagined and she rose above the clouds. See Eggwing, you're going to fly someday too, if cats can fly so can you." She was talking so sweetly to a birds nest, she hardly ever rose her voice above a few octaves, even around kits, but this time she seemed compassionate. Cats were told to look out for Arcticpaw when they left cat as she had been missing for quite a few hours and had left without saying anything, which was a bit unusual. She was a bit of a wanderer and often needed to be reminded to go check back into camp so her mother, Littlestar wouldn't worry.

[attr="class","box2"] Littlestar listened to her daughter's voice as she spoke to the bird that she seemed to be caring for. She had sent out patrol after patrol in search of her daughter, but none had seemed to be able to locate her. Wanting to makes sure that she was ok, she had set aside her duties to join in the search when she had heard her daughter's voice in the distance.
She gave her some distance, simply observing since Articpaw seemed to be fine. It was almost like deja-vu. She still remembered the time Lionpride had taken a liking to a small baby mouse. He he brought it food, hid it in a crack in the wall, and nursed it back to health. He had hidden it from her, though she had discovered his secret. He had eventually released the mouse out into the wild, which lead him to meet the she-cat that he now called his mate.
She finally moved forward until her fur was brushing her daughters, looking down at the small birds "I shouldn't be surprized that you have that story memorized" she purred lightly licking her daughters cheek. Articpaw had always loved stories, just as she had when she was that age. Littlestar didn't mind telling her all the stories that she had been told growing up. Storied of fantasy, heros, and romance. Arcticpaw stiffened at the feeling of fur tickling up against hers, she looked like she had been hit with a wave of static and immediately moved a foot before looking up to see it was her mother, "Mother," Arcticpaw greeted pleasantly with a smile that never quite looked right, it always seemed far away, like she was always dreamily thinking of something else and probably was. After all she had not sensed her mothers presence until she was right up against her. She could be vigilant, but it was something that had to be turned on and could also be exhausted, "I think my favorite are mysteries, but I still like fanciful stories," She said, her tail twitched back and forth a few times like she was nervous, but for Arcticpaw it was a sign of excitement that couldn't be contained.
"I made four new friends the other day, three are from DayClan, but one is from SunClan," Arcticpaw said, her paw fiddled with a pebble looking almost embarrassed to admit she had made friends. She was an apprentice, but all this time she had never made a single friend with anyone. She never had the desire to make a friend and anyone kind enough to try and befriend her would succeed for twenty minutes before she became tired of them. Friends were usually like weights on her shoulders, but the girls she met in DayClan reminded her of characters in stories. They were imperfect in a fun sort of way. It was no surprise that she had met a few DayClan friends though as she routinely went to DayClan to watch the tadpoles move around in the camps pond. Tadpoles were her favorite animal, she wished they didn't have to grow up into frogs.

[attr="class","box2"] Most cats would have been rather alarmed to find one of their children making friends in other clans, but for Articpaw this was a big deal. She couldn't remember that last time her daughter had spent time with other cats outside of their family, much less claimed to have made a friend
"I'm glad to hear that" she purred genuinely happy for her daughter, and the news she had shared.
Besides, SunClan's code didn't keep them from going and being with cats from other clans so long as SunClan came first. Not to mention that DayClan was one of their allies and she herself had a few friends there. "I want to hear all about them" she chirped cheerfully, not wanting to press Articpaw but at the same time give her and open invitation to share what she wished about these new friends
"What are your new friends like?" [newclass=.box2]margin:0px auto; width:300px; height:425px; background: transparent; overflow:auto; padding:8px;[/newclass] [newclass=.box2::-webkit-scrollbar]width:5px;[/newclass] [newclass=.box2::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background: #772929;[/newclass]
"Well they're all sisters, Zinniapaw is a little quiet, but Buttercuppaw is kind and adventurous and Lilacpaw is assertive and bossy. I love them, they're like characters I would hear about straight from a story. Lilacpaw was not very nice to Eggwing though, which brings me on to my SunClan friend, Eggwing!" Arcticpaw said placing her paw into the nest so the little bird could hop onto her paw and after two attempts he did. Arcticpaw held out the little bird for her mother to see. It was a small crow, although it was hard to tell given that it was only just beginning to grow feathers. She put Eggwing back into its nest quickly, "Don't want him to get too cold. I named him Eggwing, he didn't come with the name," Arcticpaw said as though it weren't obvious.
"I think that I'll try and convince the sisters to join SunClan before they're past the age and have to initiate. Gingerkit told me their parents were supposed to join SunClan, but ran away. It's not their fault that their parents made the wrong choice."

Littlestar watched with fascination as the little bird leapt onto her paw. Even though the bird was young, she could tell that it was a crow. A bad sign... But she didn't want to bring that up now. Not when Articpaw seemed so happy to have finally found some friends. As she spoke the names of her friends began to sink in. He daughter was already trying to bring others into the clan, it was strange how that all worked "Very good, I'm sure the Sun God would approve of you bringing them back to our clan. He can be forgiving to those who deserve his mercy"
Arcticpaw didn't look like she had anything else to say, "Okay I'm going to play now," She said abruptly, although play apparently meant sorting through various nesting materials. She removed a stone revealing a hole dug out full of feathers, moss, twigs, grass, and various types of leaves. She plucked through them carefully deciding which nesting material would go where. "Would you be disappointed if I didn't have kits, mother? I really love taking care of Eggwing, I think I could be a mother. But I just don't know where kits come from to find one of my own."
Arcticpaw had been told where kits came from many times, many times because each time she didn't believe anyone that it was true. Finding a baby chick likely didn't help things either as she now likely felt more certain that she could simply find a kit. Considering how many kits were left at borders on a monthly basis, she wouldn't exactly be wrong either.

"Of course not Articpaw" not all cats were meant to have children, and she had other kits that could give her grandchildren. That wasn't really what bothered her... It was was more of he reasoning. It seemed the concept of where kits came from was just going the elude her for a while longer, despite many attempts to fix that situation "All I want is for you to be yourself and be happy" she purred reassuringly. Articpaw was different from her other kits, and most other cats for that matter. She did things at her own pace and in her own way. It had been that way since before she had even opened her eyes, and she had a feeling that it wasn't going to change any time soon. Articpaw was just Articpaw.
"Oh. Do you ever get scared that your way of thinking is insane? Sometimes I think and then I think about how other people must think and it scares me how differently I am to them. I wonder if I'm crazy and then I become too scared to ask because I don't want the real answer or I'm afraid I'll have to stay inside the rest of my life. I'm told a lot of my fears are irrational, so I just keep hoping that I'm being irrational, I like that word a lot, it's soothing to me," Arcticpaw explained before perking up at the sound of another feline nearby. Arcticpaw could tell by the scent that it was someone from DayClan traveling near the borders, likely Lilacpaw, Buttercuppaw or Zinniapaw looking for her. But this wasn't an appropriate time for them to visit because they were DayClan cats who stayed in what she called a box. They stayed in the DayClan box because they couldn't leave it while she could roam between the Sun and Day box. They could only enter the Sun box if she let them, those were just the box rules.

"Articpaw, even if you were the most insane cat in the forest I would still love you the same" she reassured her, wanting to nuzzle her but knowing that it made her daughter uncomfortable. "Each and every cat thinks differently, one way is not necessarily better than another. Just different" Littlestar wrapped her tail around her paws "In fact sometimes those that think diffrently are able to help their clan when all else has failed. When presented with a problem, they see it with a fresh set of eyes and from a different viewpoint"
Arcticpaw looked up at her mom with wide eyes before nodding, "I love you, thank-you."
"Sometimes I feel sad I don't have friends to talk to and people make me feel bad. But I'm happy you'll always be my best friend, mom," She said standing up and brushed her own face out a bit. As usual her tail looked in a dreadful state, which made very little sense. When Littlestar had seen her last her tail was perfectly groomed, but the winds seemed cruel to Arcticpaw as her tail always got messed up all over again. Most cats at her age didn't feel the need to hangout with their moms, but Arcticpaw still idolized Littlestar like most she-kits did when they were young. To her Littlestar was the prettiest cat, everything she told her she believed, and held her up as a hero, a best friend, her everything.
"Are you going to spend the day with me? I want to watch fish or clouds, I miss being friends with DayClan because they had tadpoles and koi fish. I really love koi fish, they would let me feed them."

"You know what, I have nothing pressing left today How about we make this our day to spend together? Just you and me" she putted, at least one of her daughters always seemed to be glad to have her around. She had already cancelled everything else for the day when she had set off with Articpaw, she might has well enjoy one of her few respites and spend it with Articpaw. "I'll even let you choose what we do today... We may not be able to go to DayClan, but I do know of another place that we can go to feed some koi, if thats what you want to do"
Arcticpaw's were big and gooey staring up at her mom, sparkles could have flown off her eyes they were so wide and hopeful, "Koi please," She said pleadingly.

"Alright, alright" Littlestar rose to her paws, her tail lightly flickering over her daughter's shoulder to indicate that she should follow. She lead Articpaw out of SunClan's territory, keeping a close eye on the world around them as they walked. She had found this place long ago while out exploring with Skipstep in her younger days, it was a place that she retreated to whenever life as The High Priestess became overbearing. It was a place that she had shared with few, but knowing that it could bring Articpaw such happiness, she just couldn't keep her from it. As they neared, the smell of the pond and fish floated through the air, an old twoleg building looming in the background. This had once been a farm, but it had since be left for nature to reclaim. She hopped up on the stone work around the pond, the wooden wheel still spinning under the forced of the river that fed it "Now let's see if we can find those koi" she purred looking into the water, where the ocassional flash of orange and white could be seen as the koi surfaced and glimmered in the sunlight
Arcticpaw hugged close to her mom, when she was a kit she was very shy, hiding behind her moms legs, but now instead liked to stay close to her mom out of comfort. That was the strange thing about her, she was very touchy with others, but was paralyzed in fear when others touched her. "Wow," Arcticpaw said slowly with fascination, staring at the giant water wheel. She sat down to stare at her, but for once had the awareness to notice her mom was continuing to walk on and followed after her over the stone wall.
Arcticpaw's olive green gaze was wide with amazement, her jaw partially opened in awe at the sight of the fish. This felt very different than DayClan's, in DayClan the pond was very crammed with koi fish, everything felt so artificial it had a sense of perfection. Here everything felt natural, it wasn't in a bad way, but a different way. Usually she didn't like that, but she found herself liking both versions. "I love to watch the koi fish. They're very gentle, I can lean down and pet them because they know I'll feed them. My favorite was a white koi fish with a peach gold spot on its head, it always looked like my colors and I liked to imagine myself as a koi fish," Arcticpaw said, never usually sharing this much, or even the type to imagine such things on her own.

Littlestar smiled watching her daughter lean over and stare at the koi with wide eyes "Well this can be your secret spot. No one knows about this place in SunClan" she leaned in close but didn't press contact as she gazed into the water to "I know it's not the same, but maybe youll find more fish friends here" sure making fish friends wasn't exactly what she had in mind for her children, but for Articpaw it was a big step.
"My own secret spot." She said thoughtfully, her eyes were practically glowing with excitement and yet something about the small light in her eyes signaled there was almost a veil blocking out her complete happiness, like she was blocking it, "I can tell stories as loudly as I want here." She looked at her mom was if wondering what to do to show her gratitude, her paw reached out hesitant for a moment and then just patted her moms paw very briefly, "Thank-you."

Littlestar smiled, nodding warmly towards her daughter. She could see the light in her daughters eyes even if it was fleeting, and it made her purr slightly "Well then, now that you have your secret spot how about we do a little bit of training?" she mused, seeing how interested Articpaw would be today. She had good days and bad days, and sometimes it was difficult to gauge just where her daughter was "What would you like to learn about today?"
"I want to learn how to escape when I'm being pinned and then how to escape when I'm being pinned by multiple cats," Arcticpaw said slowly, clearly mulling it over a bit. She had heard many stories of great adventurous heroes entering battle, but once they were pinned they were done for. If she could be as slippery as water the only way anyone could defeat her would be to kill her or knock her out. She wanted to go out with a bang in battle.

Littlestar would have been lying if she had said that she hadn't been caught off guard by her daughters answer. Usually Articpaw would say things rather irrelevant, but this time her request was a skill that would actually prove quite useful in future "Very well, but that does mean that I have to touch you" she warned. Articpaw's aversion to touch had proved to be a rather difficult problem to overcome in her training, but it seemed to be getting a little better with time "After all in order to learn how to escape from being pinned, first you must get pinned"
